Tina Knowles has opened up about her private battle with breast cancer.

The trailblazer, who is mom to Beyonce and Solange, released her eagerly awaited memoir, ‘Matriarch,’ today (April 22).
In the book, the fashion and beauty entrepreneur revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in recent years. She says it was stage 1 and points to missing a mammogram during the pandemic for catching it later than hoped.
Expanding on the harrowing ordeal, she said of revealing the news to the world, the 71-year-old said to PEOPLE:
“I struggled with whether I would share that journey [in the book] because I’m very private. But I decided to share it because I think it’s a lot of lessons in it for other women. And I think as women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me.”
In happy news, Knowles shared that she is “cancer free.”
