Get ready for a Rock & Soul revival! For, another feature-length film on the legendary Sister Rosetta Tharpe is incoming.
It has been revealed that Live Nation Productions has tapped Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor to write a feature on Tharpe with Rock icon Mick Jagger producing.

Backed by Tribeca Studios, Jagged Films, and Inaudible Productions, the film has full support from Tharpe’s estate, including rights to her groundbreaking music catalogue. Speaking to Deadline on Tharpe’s impact, Ellis-Taylor said:
“With six guitar strings and an amplifier as a battering ram, Sister Rosetta Tharpe knocked down the Jericho walls of convention and respectability.”
Jagger spoke on his excitement to be a part of the project, saying he’s:
“So thrilled to be a part in telling the story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe who was trailblazing singer and electrifying guitarist.”
From influencing legends like Elvis Presley and Tina Turner to being posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019, Tharpe’s legacy is long overdue for the spotlight, and now it’s finally shining.
Interestingly, it appears the project is a separate feature from the Lizzo-led flick that is being spearheaded by Amazon MGM.
I thought Lizzo will play her in the movie. So now 2 movies?
