Conservative podcaster and political commentator Candace Owens is no stranger to ruffling feathers with her controversial views, but this time those feathers were attached to French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron who flew right to American courts to file a defamation lawsuit against her.
In legal documents obtained by Reuters, the Macrons took to a Delaware court to file a 22-count complaint against Owens on Wednesday (July 23) to accuse her of engaging in “a campaign of global humiliation” through repeated allegations about France’s First Lady being born male and living under a false identity.
Branding Candace’s claims a “sustained campaign of falsehoods and public harassment,” the French First Family say the moves by the controversial podcaster were merely done to increase her audience and monetize the attention.
“Every time the Macrons leave their home, they do so knowing that countless people have heard, and many believe, these vile fabrications,” the complaint said. “It is invasive, dehumanizing, and deeply unjust.”
Because no credible evidence has ever supported Candace’s claims, the complaint says the Macrons are seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
At the time of this report, however, the specifics of said damages have not been revealed.
