Emma Mackey takes the lead in ‘Ella McCay,’  the first trailer for which has been released.

The actress stars alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and Ayo Edebiri in the flick, which promises to deliver many a laugh.

The film is set in 2008 and follows a young woman who becomes a state governor after her boss is promoted to a federal-level cabinet position.

It follows her journey through this new position, along with dealing with family drama with her aunt, brother, and estranged father.

The star-studded cast includes Mackey (Ella McCay), Curtis (McCay’s aunt), Albert Brooks (McCay’s boss), Woody Harrelson (McCay’s father), Jack Lowden (McCay’s brother), Edebiri, Rebecca Hall, Kumail Nanjiani, and Julie Kavner (narrator).

Directed by James L. Brooks, the film takes a different approach to a political position. He said:

“[This movie] is about how to not make government service and political office something any sane person would flee from. In a movie like this, you’ve got to figure out what the heroism is, and chase that…”What is it really that makes you a fine person? Is it a character that’s worth supporting for an entire movie? That’s what you aim for .”

‘Ella McCay’ premieres in theaters on December 12.
