Boots Riley is returning to SXSW in major fashion.

The musician turned director will open the festival’s 40th edition with ‘I Love Boosters,’ his star-packed second feature headlined by Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, LaKeith Stanfield, Taylour Paige, and Demi Moore.

The film, a surreal caper about elite shoplifters taking on a ruthless fashion mogul, is set for its world premiere in Austin, and the buzz is already loud. SXSW’s Claudette Godfrey praised Riley, saying:

“Boots has created another wildly original and boundary-pushing vision that’s deliciously unpredictable. We can’t wait for our audience to be sucked into his singular, subversive world where razor-sharp social commentary meets fearless, surreal storytelling and eye-popping imagery — all powered by a ridiculously stacked cast of some of the most talented actors on the planet.”

Riley, who first shook SXSW with ‘Sorry to Bother You’ and later ‘I Am A Virgo,’ wrote and directed the film with Neon backing production.

With its stacked cast, ‘I Love Boosters’ is shaping up to be one of SXW’s most anticipated launch moments.
