While chatting with Deon Cole, Arnold weighed in on a conversation sparked by Ari Lennox’s critique of jokes from the classic sitcom. Arnold claimed that Campbell, who played Gina, faced what she called “reverse colorism” from the live audiences back in the day. She told Cole:
“People don’t realize that reverse colorism happens as well… I remember Tisha; she would cry sometimes. It would be so bad.”
“They would not laugh at her jokes. They treated her horribly.”
However, her remarks didn’t sit well with many fans online.
Quick to nip the controversy in the bud, Arnold hopped on Instagram to clarify and apologize, she said:
“So I made a statement on Deon Cole about reverse colorism. I was speaking too fast, just speaking from experience, but I never want to insult anyone for no reason. And I misspoke. I spoke too soon. I asked my sons, my TV sons, how they felt about it, and they corrected me. So I stand corrected, and my apologies for anyone who mistook what I said.”
Campbell even responded with love in the comments, backing up Arnold and highlighting the bond between the longtime friends.
