She may juggle many hats (see: morning TV show hostess, actress, philanthropist, etc.), but Keke Palmer still found time to give her loyal fans a musical fix last month courtesy of new tune ‘Virgo Tendencies’ (as we reported here).
Just a week later, she unveiled the music video for its follow-up – the TK Kravitz-assisted ‘Got Em Mad.’ Directed by Derek Blanks, the visual – set in a gentleman’s club – sees the ‘Hustlers’ star showing off the moves gleaned from that critically acclaimed, stripper-inspired film.
And, while we’re unsure on the details surrounding ‘Virgo Tendencies’ and ‘Got Em Mad’s parent album at the moment, what’s for sure is Palmer is playing no game in the promotion of her latest musical efforts.
With Trill and DJ Spinz at the helm of production, ‘No TV’ comes as the latest effort from Grammy-winning rapper 2 Chainz.
“No TV, come see, I’m flexin’ in 3D (Flex),” he raps. “I’m big dawg, I’m peewee, jetski, seaweed/A foreign, beep-beep/No feelings, KeKe/You get it, hee-hee,”
Taking to Instagram to inform his fans the track is “something to snack on” until he releases his new solo album later this year (the last effort under his current Def Jam contract), look inside to hear ‘TV’:
Megan Thee Stallion stunned fans yesterday when she revealed a secret battle with a record label she signed with five years ago. A battle she says runs risk of halting the release of new music.
Now, the rising rapper/college student is taking the matter in the court room and has scored an early victory.
Demi Lovato made her grand return to the music scene earlier this year and sung her truth at the 2020 GRAMMYs – where she premiered a previously unheard song live.
Now, she’s pressing on with the official lead single from her comeback album.
Lady Gaga officially activated the campaign for ‘Chromatica’ today – formally announcing the project and its April 10th release.
Led by single ‘Stupid Love,’ the project serves as her sixth studio album and the solo follow-up to 2016’s ‘Joanne.’ It also follows the ‘A Star Is Born’ movie soundtrack, which spawned chart-topper ‘Shallow.’
With all the excitement surrounding the LP, attention is turning to the meaning of its title.
Solange has long blazed her own trail and this week saw her recognized for her seismic effect on culture and discourse.
The eclectic singer was honored with the first-ever Lena Horne Prize for Artists Creating Social Impact at a celebration event at The Town Hall in NYC.
In a major move, Horne’s family presented Solo with the honor.
The salute comes on the heels of the songbird hatching latest album, ‘When I Get Home,’ which has been met with ample critical acclaim.
From The Vault invites you back to the summer of 2008, a year which brought with it Danity Kane‘s ‘Bad Girl’ – the group’s last single to-date as a quintet.
Helmed by Danja – the hitmaker behind Britney Spears’ stellar ‘Blackout’ album – the song was serviced as the band’s second single from sophomore effort ‘Welcome To The Dollhouse.’ Its frenetic electro-pop production was elevated even more by a guest verse from Rap queen Missy Elliott.
Directed by Erik White, the video boasted a graphic novel aesthetic and – as stated in the song -it saw the girls transform into their badass alter egos whenever the red light comes on.
The visual was choreographed by Gil Duldulao, who is also Janet Jackson’s longest working creative director and choreographer. Elliott also featured on the clip.
Still, all of this wasn’t enough to secure the track a Hot 100 placing, instead peaking at #10 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.
As was a constant in the “Danity Kane” narrative, this track had never received the push it should have in order to become a hit and ended up becoming the last time we would see all five original members in a video together.
Over a decade later, it still stings to think about what could have been. With top-notch music, a killer creative team and epic performance skills, DK were equipped with everything to become one of the biggest bands in the world. All except the support of the team behind them. Ironically.
Whether the ladies decide to reunite as DK5, DK4 or DK3, we’ll always have a soft spot for them, if only for everything they were able to achieve in so little time and with all the odds against them.
