This week brought with it the 25th anniversary of the legendary ‘My Life’ LP by an even more legendary songstress.

Today’s From The Vault comes courtesy of the mighty Mary J. Blige. We give you ‘I’m Goin’ Down.’

For the moody set’s second single, Mary and team went for their Rose Royce cover. A critics favorite, the track’s production was handled by Diddy and Chucky Thompson; it would go on to peaked at #22 on the US Hot 100.

Matthew Rolston directed the song’s visual, a classy monochrome throwback that sees Mary assuming the role of a lounge singer passionately serenading a captivated audience – with lyrics that were ironically anything but romantic.

The shots of the multiple MJBs quite literally goin’ down now stand as some of the most iconic of her career.

25 years on, Ms. Blige is still reigning supreme over the Hip-Hop/Soul scene.

As history would have it, many have tried to drive in her lane but none have succeeded. Whether it’s her unmatched authenticity, poignant vulnerability, or her seismic strength, there’s definitely something about Mary that sets her apart from all her peers.

With a career soon to span over 3 decades, one thing is for sure, Mary will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it.

All hail Queen Mary.

Aaliyah has indisputably become an icon in the time since her tragic passing, aged just 22.

And she’s done so against the odds.

Because, in a wholly puzzling move, much of her music has been held off digital retail and streaming services.

Indeed, as at writing, only Aaliyah’s 1994 debut album ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number’ is available. While a scant number of single tracks have been scattered across compilations.

It’s a reality that’s seen many fans rely on ever-rare physicals, YouTube, and bootlegs to bask in the brilliance of the late, great superstar.

Well, it finally seems as though the hustle and bustle attached to listening to Aaliyah is coming to an end. And for exciting reason too. Because her full discography will reportedly be heading to all streaming services within a mere matter of months.

Madonna may have a reputation as one of music’s most prolific touring acts, but her latest trek continues to be plagued by problems.

The ‘Madame X Tour’ set sail in September and has already hit a number of icebergs – namely tardiness, cancellations, and postponements.

This week saw the latter rear its head again, for the Pop royal has had to rejig and, in some cases, outright cancel dates.
