As reported, the soundtrack for the 2019 incarnation of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ is set to tank on a major scale.

The multi-artist set was executive produced by Ariana Grande, who appeared on several of the featured songs.

With the LP on-course to open with 4-6k pure sales (13-17k with streaming), many – even fans – have been giving post-mortems on the project.

So much so that Ari herself has weighed-in.

Kanye West has patient fans, that’s for sure.

Despite missing the initially announced release date (and later the originally announced time) for his latest effort, ‘Jesus is King,’ the highly anticipated project was finally unveiled mid-day October 25 courtesy of his G.O.O.D. Music imprint.

Now, as its inaugural sales tracking week has ended, it can officially be declared ‘King’ will reign over the Billboard 200.

The Ariana Grande-produced ‘Charlie’s Angels’ soundtrack may be lauded for assembling some of the music industry’s most recognizable voices aboard its star-studded tracklist, but its content has been subjected to mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.  And, if its predicted first week sales are to judge by, that disapproval is being reflected commercially.

After failing to fly to the top of charts as anticipated with its highly anticipated lead single, ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ (featuring Grande, Lana Del Rey, and Miley Cyrus), the project followed with the even worse performing Kash Doll-led ‘How It’s Done.’

Despite the nonperformance of its singles suggesting an absence of buzz (a surprising feat for an effort of this caliber), the soundtrack soared onto shelves and into chart battle on November 1.  After two days of tracked streams and digital downloads, industry analysts have issued a prediction of how well they suspect the set will sell.

From The Vault journeys back to the early 90’s when Whitney Houston released one of her most soaring ballads.

Today’s pick is the legend’s ‘All The Man That I Need.’

Released as the second single from her third LP ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight,’ ‘Man’ was originally sung by Linda Clifford in 1982. Almost a decade later, Houston turned it into a Billboard #1 hit and a global Top 20.

Featuring Kenny G on the sax, the cut sees the singer share how the love and affection she receives from her significant other are all she needs to be happy in this life. A simple, yet resonating message.

Peter Israelson directed the track’s video, which like the song showcases the sheer simplicity of what Nippy had to offer: her raw talent. No crazy theatrics or over-the-top fashion, just her incredible aura and magnificent voice.

**********

We can’t thank Ms. Houston enough for sharing her otherworldly talent with the world and inspiring generations – past, present and future – of super vocalists.

And while she’s sadly no longer here, we’re glad her music and that witty personality of hers have remained alive thanks to her omnipresence online via memes, gifs, clips, and ever-impactful performances.

Gone, yet anything but forgotten. We’ll always love and adore you.

It’s a year since Little Mix left Simon Cowell‘s record label amidst drama between their management and the mogul’s SyCo imprint.

And, if folk thought the group bolting the week their ‘LM5’ album dropped was dramatic, then it looks like Cowell has officially upped the ante.

Because, fresh from the ladies announcing their new BBC show ‘Little Mix The Search,’ the industry veteran has revealed he’ll be debuting a new ‘X Factor’ spin-off series with a near-identical format.

Adding pepper to the pot, he also confirmed his show will launch before theirs.

With over a decade of success under her belt, Lady Gaga has seen the music industry shape-lift like never before – with streaming being one of its most pronounced chapters of evolution.

And while access to music has consequently become easier than ever, the format has arguably is now just as politicized as radio before it.

Indeed, the inclusion or exclusion of a song on key playlists can make or break a campaign, while a lack of streaming potency can swallow careers whole.

During her latest ‘Enigma’ show in Las Vegas, Mother Monster took a moment to share her take on the situation and call for broader change.
