At no point over the last 18 weeks has your fave topped the Billboard Hot 100!
Why? Because that’s how long newcomer Lil Nas X (born Montero Hill) has dominated the chart with his hit, ‘Old Town Road.’ Last week he rode atop headlines for breaking the 23-year-old Hot 100 record set by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men as their duet hit, ‘One Sweet Day,’ topped the tally for 16 weeks in the mid-90’s (as we reported here).
Now, Hill has much to celebrate as this week he made it that much harder for any of his successors to top his achievement.

Just days after winning fans over with his latest single, ‘Single Again,’ rapper Big Sean dropped a cinematic, short-film to accompany the tune.
Shot in May, the visual – shot in Detroit and prominently featuring acts local or native to the Motor City – stars real life couple Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny among other notable figures from the area. Seeing Sean portray a celebrity under fire for assumed romantic infidelity, the music video is somewhat of art imitating life as many assumed the 31-year-old was the cause of the failure of his relationship with singer Jhene Aiko.
“I know what it’s like to be in social scandals where even with no information/ evidence, just people assuming will blame you and turn on you,” he wrote on Twitter upon the release of the video. In a statement, Sean elaborated on his Twitter commentary and said: “The video has a lot of important messages, but the main one is for people to ‘wake up and smell the roses’ in a world where we wake up and check our phones instead.”

Three years after the release of his history-making mixtape, ‘Coloring Book,’ emcee Chance the Rapper (born Chancelor Bennett) was looking to color his name atop the Billboard 200 with his debut studio album, ‘The Big Day’ (released July 26).
A star studded affair that boasts guest appearances from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, John Legend, Gucci Mane, Shawn Mendes, and more, the 22-song set – his first project to be released simultaneously on streaming services and for sale via digital retailers – has been showered with praise from major critics and fans alike.
Originally forecasted by industry analysts to top the Billboard 200 with sales of 90,000-100,000 SPS by the end of its inaugural sales tracking week (as we reported here), the LP’s commercial performance saw it jet past those predictions to score Chance’s highest first week sales to date. Unfortunately, they were not enough to defeat the week’s tough competition.
