In commemoration of Michael Jackson‘s 62nd birthday, the singer’s estate teamed with Spike Lee to unleash a new version of the King of Pop’s ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ music video.
Timely, in light of the rifeness of social injustice, the refreshed version of the visual spotlights the Black Lives Matter movement and more.
A life long philanthropist and social activist, Jackson used his platform to propagate the need for equality. Hence, it’s fitting that said sentiments are being continued posthumously.
Speaking on the release, Lee (who directed the 1995 original) said:
“Great Protest Songs Can’t Get Old, Stale Or Nonrelevant Because The Struggle Still Continues. That’s Why THEY DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT US IS The Anthem During This Chaotic, Pandemic World We Are All Living In. To Celebrate Michael Jackson’s Born Day, We Have Made The THEY DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT US 2020 Short Film To Continue The Struggle For Equality For All. That’s The Truth, Ruth. Be Safe.”
