The shocking death of George Floyd has sparked international discourse about racial injustice and, more specifically, the unfair treatment of Black people.

As widely reported, Floyd was unarmed when he was reprimanded by Minnesota police; an encounter that saw him lose his life when officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes.

The entire incident was caught on camera and has lit the match amongst about the necessity of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Today, Floyd is being laid to rest in Houston.

Names in attendance include: Mayor Sylvester Turner, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Rev. Al Sharpton, Attorney Benjamin CrumpSlim Thug, Leela James, Paul Wall, Floyd Mayweather, Congressman Al Green, and Bishop James Dixon.

There, the Senator explained that it will not be easy to secure a prosecution in the George Floyd murder trial and named the politician who blocked her efforts to eradicate lynching.

As one of biggest girlbands in UK history, the Sugababes were loved by their fans for their talent, bops, and diversity.

However, this did not quell the flames of racism that often engulfed the group’s longest serving member Keisha Buchanan – who is now opening up about her experience.

During her lengthy tenure with the band, the singer was subject to media scrutiny that was soaked in coded racial bias. A practice that would continue even after her initial 2009 departure.

Indeed, she’d routinely be branded a “bully” and her bandmates asked (in her presence) whether they were “scared” of her. All without evidence to support such line of questioning.

In a candid video statement, she reveals she’d often have to put on a brave face – but the effects of the bias left her fragile.

Good vibrations are the last thing some critics are sending the way of rapper-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg after he took to social media to bemoan the death of George Floyd.

Invoking the hashtag #Blacklivesmatter on his official Instagram handle four days ago, Wahlberg stated:

“The murder of George Floyd is heartbreaking. We must all work together to fix this problem. I’m praying for all of us. God bless. ❤️🙏❤️#blacklivesmatter

The Academy Award nominee may have thought he – like many fellow celebrities – was using his platform to shed light on racial injustice.  Instead, his “activism” only encouraged light to be shed on his own reported racist past.

After inciting a firestorm of controversy for taking to Twitter over the weekend to say “defeating White supremacy without White people creates Black supremacy” (as we reported here), Terry Crews has returned to the platform to defend himself from the onslaught of criticism.

Branded a ‘coon’ and ‘Uncle Tom’ in the wake of his comments (which were deemed insensitive by many), the 51-year-old doubled down on his original statement – even asserting that those who misunderstood his initial intent were ‘Black supremacists’ themselves.

Last week, baseball star-turned-music executive Carl Crawford was arrested for allegedly choking his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint – an allegation he quickly denied via a statement from his attorney, Rusty Hardin.

As he prepares for the court battle to ensue, his ex-fianceé – ‘Basketball Wives’ star Evelyn Lozada – is coming to his defense to quell rumors that she too suffered from domestic violence at his hands.
