Just as Spring arrived the week sprung on music lovers some of the season’s highest anticipated releases from the likes of serial hitmakers Kendrick Lamar, Zayn, Iggy Azalea, and David Guetta (featuring Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne). Then, as if the overflow of back to back drops from the aforementioned weren’t enough, Chris Brown unleashed his new tune, ‘Privacy’ (believed to be the first single from his forthcoming opus ‘Heartbreak on a Full Moon’).
Critically, most of the new songs are getting thumbs up from listeners – a review we at TGJ HQ share. Commercially, on the other hand, Lamar’s new tune – ‘Heart IV’ – is the only one of the wave of new releases to crack the top 10 on the iTunes sales charts [where it sits at #1 as of time reported] while Azalea’s, ‘Mo Bounce,’ has bounced to #1 on Youtube’s streaming charts.
As we wait to see how well all the competition fares toward their Hot 100 placements on the refreshed Billboard Hot 100 in two weeks, we turn to you – That Grape Juice faithful – to ask:
Who gets your pick for best release of the week?
The beef is cooking once again between former buddies August Alsina and Trey Songz.
Historically, the pair have had an on-off relationship (as friends) for several years, but it appeared a performance together at the BET Awards in 2015 settled their latest spat.
Well, there’s drama all over again.
Find out why below…
Before Trey Songz could even wrap official promotion on his sixth official era, 2014’s ‘Trigga,’ fans had already begun calling for its official follow-up. In February 2015, the Grammy-nominated crooner whet appetites by not only announcing the album’s title, ‘Tremaine,’ but also promising its content would be a venture away from his standard fare of raunch into more romantic subject matter.
“…in R&B and hip hop, I feel like it’s easy to make women feel sexy and be a bad bitch, but I feel like the Tremaine album will kind of put women on the pedestal again and show that it’s cool to love, it’s cool to want to be romantic, and it’s cool to want to be in a relationship.” (Source)
Well, it appears the ‘Heart Attack’ hitmaker has had a change of heart since then. For, upon its unique unveiling via a parodic VH1 reality dating show – ‘Tremaine the Playboy’ – the album’s weekly single releases have been nothing but typical Trey: bleating about boning bad b-tches, bottles in the club, and neighing over trap beats.
Yet, while ‘Tremaine’ remains thematically in line with its predecessors, there is one keen difference:
