20 years after Fantasia won over the hearts of America with her impassioned ‘American Idol’ performance of the 1935 classic ‘Summertime‘ (from ‘Porgy & Bess‘), the GRAMMY-winning diva seems poised to repeat the feat with an updated take on the timeless tune.
Helmed by EMMY Award-winning music director and bassist Adam Blackstone, the dynamic duo – who made headlines for their rocking tribute to Queen of Rock Tina Turner at the GRAMMYs earlier this year – have reunited to reimagine the George Gershwin-penned opera-turned-jazz standard.
“Summertime / And the livin’ is easy / Fish are jumpin’ / And the cotton is high / Oh, your daddy’s rich / And your ma is good-lookin’ / So hush, little baby / Don’t you cry,” she wails over Blackstone’s booming bass.
