Janet Superbowl Fine Dropped Believe it or not, there were still financial repercussions lingering for Janet Jackson’s now infamous ‘Nipplegate’ moment at the Superbowl four years ago. However, it has been announced that the last of the barrage if fines leveled against the networked which aired it, CBS, has been dropped:

PHILADELPHIA – A federal appeals court has thrown out a $550,000 fine against CBS Corp. for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show that ended with Janet Jackson’s breast-baring “wardrobe malfunction.”
The three-judge panel in Philadelphia ruled Monday that the Federal Communications Commission “acted arbitrarily and capriciously” in issuing the fine for the fleeting image of nudity.

The 90 million people watching the Super Bowl, many of them children, heard Justin Timberlake sing, “Gonna have you naked by the end of this song,” as he reached for Jackson’s bustier. {Source}

About time already. All parties seemed to have moved on anyway, so the fine really was pointless IMO.

While on the Superbowl topic…

Do you think Janet can overcome the Superbowl drama?
Interestingly, the controversy surrounding BET 106 & Park hosts Terrence and Rocsi had yet to be addressed on the popular countdown show, which consequently left many debating what exactly was the reason as well as what the future held for the pair. Today, however, Terrence – who conveniently is on ‘vacation’ offered an apology of sorts to Rocsi via way of R&B star Mario. Check it out below courtesy of World Star Hip-Hop:

Hmm…

Publicity stunt or legit: What do you guys think?

The video for Khia’s latest single ‘Be Your Lady’ hit the net recently. Yes, it’s as bad as you thought it’d be. Windows Movie Maker bad…SMH…

Edit: I just watched it again…LMAO…A mess.

Anyway, Khia’s ‘Nasti Musik’ LP is out now – its release was pushed up to avoid ‘internet downloading’..LOL…I’m almost in tears.

As I’m sure many of you know, I had the pleasure of interviewing R&B star Ne-Yo here in London yesterday. Check out his exclusive shout-out to That Grape Juice above. Be on the look-out for the interview shortly.

Your thoughts?

Usher Lines Up 3rd Single R&B star Usher is lining up ‘His Mistakes’ as the third single to be lifted from his most recent album ‘Here I Stand’. The song will be serviced to radio on August 18th.
Err is it me or does this seem like an ‘iffy’ choice? I mean Usher is in desperate need of a hit at the moment, considering ‘Moving Mountains’ has pretty much stalled on both sides of the Atlantic. IMO ‘Trading Places’ would have been the much better option. Perhaps putting out a better album, in general, would have helped matters?…Just a thought

Review in a bit…

In the meanwhile…

The video for Rihanna’s latest single ‘Disturbia’ premiered today. Put simple, the David LaChapelle clip is truly awesome, however the song is truly the pits – which is s shame. Still, I can see this one being another hit for the 20 year old. More power to her, I guess…

T-Boz Signs Solo DealIt is being reported that former TLC star T-Boz has signed with SRC/Universal. The Grammy award winning star’s as yet untitled LP is set to feature production contributions from the likes of Polow Da Don, Dallas Austin and Raphael Saadiq. {Source}
I’ll sure be paying close attention to how this one shapes up; I remember T-Boz’s first foray into the solo field with ‘Touch Myself’ all those years ago. I’m finding myself wondering though: Is anyone really still checking for T-Boz?

Will you be checking for T-Boz’s solo effort?
With R&B crooner Mario hard away at work on his forth studio album, a new cut from LP’s recording sessions titled ‘Promise Land’ has surfaced. Check out the Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins produced track below:

Good stuff. I’m really hoping Mario garners the success he deserves this go round; as I’ve said many a time, his last LP ‘Go!’ was criminally underrated, as is Mario as an artist too.

Hit or Miss?

Ja Rule - 'Pushin' It (ft. Robin Thicke)'Following the indefinite postponement of Ja Rule’s ‘The Mirror’ LP, many, including myself, have been questioning what exactly is going on with the one-time chart topper. ‘Pushin’ It’, a new Robin Thicke assisted track, presumed to be from the album, surfaced recently. Though the track, which samples Rick Ross’ ‘Push It’, is pretty solid, it leaves a lot to be desired – most especially Thicke’s showing on the hook. With Ja’s career, no doubt, in need of urgent resuscitation, he’s gonna need to come harder than this to come anywhere close to the level of relevance he once commanded.

Sorry about the slow(ish) posts today. I had the pleasure of interviewing a certain Mr Ne-Yo today in Central London – be on the lookout for that real soon. Anyway…

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson performed her brand new single ‘Spotlight’ today on Good Morning America. Check out her interview as well as performance below:

Jennifer looked and sounded on-point! Awesome performance. Jen’s self-titled LP hits stores on September 30th.

Kelly Rowland took to the stage as the headlining act at T4 On The Beach earlier today, here in the UK. It’s no secret that we’re pretty keen on Kelly here at That Grape Juice (understatement? lol), however believe when I say that Ms. Kelly n-a-i-l-e-d it! Easily the largest solo show she’s played to date, it was hands down her best IMO – vocally, stage presence, everything. Check out her full set below:
