The same day the highly anticipated movie adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway classic ‘Cats’ hits theaters, December 20th brings with it the release of its accompanying soundtrack.

Boasting contributions from the film’s chart-topping stars (Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, and Jennifer Hudson), the 15-track affair also features updated versions of the stage play’s beloved classics from the likes of actors Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, James Corden, and more.

Jennifer Hudson took center stage on The Voice tonight and lived up to the show’s title with a seismic showing of ‘Memory.’

The stirring number is lifted from the movie ‘CATS,’ which she stars in as Grizabella  alongside the likes of Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, and Jason Derulo.

Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s hotly anticipated ‘CATS’ movie pounces onto the big screen this Friday and brings with it a mega-wattage of star-power.

For its theatrical run, the musical has tapped names such as Taylor Swift, James Corden, and Jennifer Hudson – who plays the role of Grizabella. 

The latter means J.Hud has the distinct honor of performing ‘Memory’ – one of the most renown songs from the classic production.

All roads lead to August 14 for award-winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson as the diva prepares to unveil what may be the acting performance of a lifetime by bringing the story of one of her idols – the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin – to life via a highly anticipated big screen biopic.

Leading a star-studded cast that features the likes of Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, and many more (as we reported here), Franklin fans wary about Hudson’s ability to pull off the major role will have at least half of their fears eased when they cop a gander at the 38-year-old’s transformation for the project.

With critically acclaimed acting performances in television and film roles (the latter leading to Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations), Grammy-winning diva Mary J. Blige has proven time and time again her talents aren’t limited to music.

Now, reports have it the Queen of Hip Hop Soul will be using those acting chops to salute her longtime idol, Aretha Franklin, in the late icon’s forthcoming MGM-produced biopic.  Toplined by Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, the entertainment studio’s sent anticipation for the film into overdrive by announcing its full cast which includes the likes of Blige, comedian Marlon Wayans, veteran actor Forest Whitaker, and many more familiar names.

The jaw-dropping trailer to Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper’s highly anticipated adaptation of the iconic musical ‘Cats’ dropped today and we couldn’t be more excited.

Pouncing into theaters December 20, the CGI-laden flick – which stars a slew of familiar music stars including the likes of Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, and Jason Derulo – also calls on Hollywood heavy hitters Idris Elba, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Ian McKellen, and Judi Dench to help round out the cast.

Featuring the unforgettable Andrew Lloyd Webber score, including the play’s signature tune, ‘Memory’ (performed by Hudson), the screenplay is written by Lee Hall (famous for his work on the recent Elton John biopic ‘Rocketman’) and the legendary Steven Spielberg signed on to executive produce.

Only the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin could command a tribute performance roster chock full of some of music’s greatest vocal talents.  And, much like the late diva’s televised homegoing celebration, the vocalists that lined the bill did not disappoint.

Patti Labelle, Celine Dion, H.E.R. Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Janelle Monae, Fantasia, Shirley Caesar, John Legend, and Kelly Clarkson are just a few of the names tapped by industry executive Clive Davis to perform at CBS special ‘Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul.’

Hosted by Tyler Perry, the show – taped at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium in January – aired last night (March 10) much to fan delight.  Did you miss any of the amazing performances?  See them inside:

As we reported here, MGM‘s much touted Aretha Franklin biopic, ‘Respect,’ is coming together at quite a hurried pace.

Just five months after the Queen of Soul’s passing, reports surfaced Academy and Grammy Award-winning singer Jennifer Hudson would be assuming the role of the late legend in the film while lauded Broadway director Liesl Tommy has been appointed to helm and its script to be penned by Academy Award winner Callie Khouri.

Already in production, the flick’s highly anticipated premiere date has been revealed.  See it inside:

We’re less than a week away from the 91st annual Academy Awards and, much like Hollywood, we are buzzing!

Beyond the fashions and the show’s biggest star (the awards), chatter around the picks for this year’s musical performers is growing.  To answer the anticipation the Academy recently announced details for the ‘Best Original Songs’ to be performed during the ceremony.

The world mourned the loss of Aretha Franklin, who passed away on August 16th aged 76.

Yet, with a life and legacy as prolific as hers, a mammoth celebration was always on the cards.

And the GRAMMY body are at the helm.
