Missy Elliott quite literally wears many hats. However, millions would agree that the most fitting of them all is that of “innovator.”

Missy Elliott isn’t just back. She’s blazing.

The iconic rapper broke the internet when the video for her comeback track ‘WTF (Where They From)’ landed last week.

Indeed, in what is becoming a real rarity in today’s age, the Dave Meyer‘s directed visual very much felt like an event and was greeted as such (the clip has racked up over 13 million views and counting).

In an interview with Hattie Collins for i-D magazine, Elliott waxed honest about her return; how she’d adjusted to the “normal life,” the apprehension she felt (she literally messed up her weave with nerves), and how Pharrell Williams and Katy Perry were central to her resurgence.

For some she was the beloved child star who warmed the hearts of millions on ‘The Cosby Show‘ and on Disney’s ‘That’s So Raven.’

Alas, Raven-Symone‘s departure from the latter has since gone on to see her slammed by the very fans who once turned her into a household name.

Why? The star’s decisions to share her world ‘View’ which oft reflects that the star’s seemingly down to earth nature is just as farcical as her career as a working musician.

In fact, when one is able to look beyond said farce it becomes pretty apparent that the seemingly “chill” Symone is anything but, seemingly unaware that her “unique” points of ‘View’ are actually ignorant, bred in the warmth of privilege, stupidity, and if comments she made today are anything to go by…prejudice.

Hit the link below to find out why she’s ruffled feathers again below.

Welcome back to TGJ Replay!

Designed much like our ‘Retro Rewind’ and ‘From the Vault’ features, ‘Replay’ is That Grape Juice‘s newest reflective segment to act as a written quest to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday. Unlike its TGJ retrospective predecessors, ‘Replay’ looks to dust off and showcase entire albums (and eras) from a library of pop and Urban pop music hits.

Now, as the world celebrates the 34th birthday of music icon Beyonce, there’s no better time to ode her with a salute in the form of a “replay” of her sophomore album ‘BDay.’

“This is the album women need to hear.  It’s for all the women out there that need to hear something that will give them strength and empowerment.  There’s a song for everyone on this album – women in love, women who need to get out of love, women who are vulnerable, and women in every aspect of a relationship.

A lot of the records [on the album] are not about my life, but are about my friends’ lives or women around me. I thought it was important that I didn’t do the same album about love once again, but I needed a variety of things everyone can relate to.” – Beyonce, 2006
