To ‘Migrate’ or Not?

Published: Wednesday 17th Sep 2008 by Sam
To 'Migrate' or Not?Billboard recently confirmed that Mariah Carey was set to release fan/critic favourite ‘Migrate’ as the fourth single from her under-performing (by her standards) LP ‘E=MC²’. However since then, uber reliable Mariah fansite Mariah Daily received word from Def Jam that the release of the single has been axed, with no further information on future releases from the album.
It’s a shame really as, regardless of how good an album is (and let’s make no mistakes,’E=MC²’ was far from ‘good’ IMO), it simply takes 2-3 singles well sequenced singles to deliver a hit record – for an artist of Mariah’s caliber, anyway. Why favourites such as ‘For The Record’, ‘Migrate’ and even ‘Side Effects’ (which I can’t stand, yet most seem to love) were overlooked in favour of nonsense such as ‘Bye Bye’ and ‘I’m That Chick’ is beyond me.
What’s more, from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be receiving any new singles from the album – which I actually think may be for the best. In between those horrid live performances and the fact that the album just wasn’t very good (especially when compared with its predecessor ‘Emancipation’, I say it’d probably be in Mariah’s best interest to sit down and enjoy married life for now.

How can you say that “E=MC2” is “not very good” when it is, IMO, almost as good as “The Emancipation”?

We have “Migrate”, “Touch My Body”, “I Stay In Love”, “Side Effects”, “Love Story”, “For The Record” that are really awesome and definitely could be hits and the others too but I don’t know why these were not chosen to be released as singles… Well, we don’t know yet… Maybe they’ll be released after all… I hope so…

The cd was okay, definitely not the best from Mariah . . . but try again is all she can do. So what she had a few rough years, Emancipation was the business, but she has already made her mark in the industry, let her be. She doesn’t have to prove herself, she has a following that will probably guarantee her a platinum cd anyway.

I’M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT MARIAH WILL NOT RELEASE MIGRATE!!! SHE RELEASED S***** SONGS SHE SHOULD’VE DONE THIS:
    1.STAY IN LOVE
    2.MIGRATE
    3.FOR THE RECORD
    4.SIDE EFFECTS
    5.RE-RELEASE
    6.I’M THAT CHICK (EUROPE)

MARIAH please press on Island Def Jam’s ass to release Migrate. A nice expensive video would be a great idea for people to be introduced to your new HIP-POP sound. People wake up. You’ve got a treasure waiting to be found…..

I totally agree with the comment about the JD ballads.

Bye Bye, Love Story, Last Kiss, and I Stay In Love might as well all be the same song. It’s good to see that people have calmed down and are admitting it isn’t as good as the last. When it came out everyone was claiming Emancipation sucked.

Migrate would have been a hit. Not my fav, but it would have been a good second single. I’m surprised I’ll Be Loving U tanked honestly. For The Record is the best on the album. And I even like Cruise Control and Thanx 4 Nothin

I like mariah and i liked “EOM” but this album suckd real hard. All the songs sound the same. The singles suck even harder. I cant believe she even put this s*** out..i shoulda known the minute she put that Touch My Body s*** out. Wow..i guess its time 4 her 2 have a kid or 2

I think that only the 12″ of Migrate was cancelled. I bet that the single is cancelled so that IDJ can put out a re-issue with new tracks and use Migrate later when the album is re-energized.

Releasing “Migrate” right when her voice is going down without an-ending-sigh is totally s******. I mean, releasing “Migrate” will absolutely comes along with “promo-performances” aka “high notes of the song” aka “things she can’t seems to do well lately”. Think of it 4 a minute, all her singles from “E=MC²” – “Touch My Body”, “Bye Bye”, “I’ll Be Lovin’ You Long Time” and the upcoming “I’m That Chick” – are all easy songs to sing; they even have no high notes to ‘hit’ at all :). The truth is our dear is going downhill, that’s why she’s avoiding those hit-potential songs from her latest album.

Whatcha Think About That 😉 ?

IDJ did the same thing to Janet. The label is a complete mess and is handling their artists extremely inappropriately.

  11. Anonymous September 17, 2008

Mariah should blame IDJ… I mean , Bye Bye , wtf??
The album was so-so, but there was some good song… bad single choise

  12. Anonymous September 17, 2008

That’s not really true… Almost all of the songs have parts especially at their endings where Mariah raizes her voice up… And “Migrate” and “Side Effects” are the easiest songs to be sung from the album… So it’s not that…

IMO, at least the climax at the end of the song (along with high notes) is much easier to perform than the one on the intro of “Migrate”. She can perform the climax in whatever way she wants ’cause it’s a climax!, there’s no rules for it; but in that “Migrate” intro, she has to follow the tone of the song, which makes it’s (now) impossible 4 her to reach. I think that’s the main problem, and the label is trying to hide the fact that she actually can’t reach high notes by pretending crazy and releasing junks.

The label takes the responsibility. Mariah can happily goes ahead, has a good life beside her *ahem* “husband” and releases another album.

I wish everyone would shut the hell up about Migrate that song is wack that has to be the weakest song off the album after “Touch my body”, everybody is sick n’ tired of T pain’s Mr robocop voice on every damn song and lyrically it sounded like she was trying too hard to be down. This album was not as good as the Emancipation album that album was beautiful… this album was just blahh there was too many weak songs and if they weren’t weak they just sounded akward. She should of released “cruise control” thats the best song on the album.

  16. Nothing But Love September 17, 2008

GIVE IT A REST SAM, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
MARIAH IS STILL THE BEST AND YOU’RE JEALOUS!!!

they were trying to hard to release songs in the same pattern like the emancipation. if they actaully released singles that fans would like form the get go there wouldnt have been a stop on everythign with this album

  20. Anonymous September 17, 2008

Oh my gosh Sam, leave the poor girl alone. We get it: You don’t think she can sing anymore and you thought EMC2 was horrible.

  21. Anonymous September 17, 2008

sam, I been coming here for sometime leave mariah alone– she’s a legend in her own right been in the music business for 18 years and remember this is her 11th album not including compulations albums she done, ALSO you keep going on about how you know the music business for want it is yet you should know that in today terms she done alot better than most artist this year who still havent reach the 1 million albums let alone 100k – most people arent buying records they downloading them illegally on blogs, website etc this does effect sales – and we are going through credit crisis at the moment everyone is SAVING OF DOLLARS – I wont count E=MC 2 OUT YET I believe this will be repackage like with EOM with new tracks including Right to dream and maybe a christmas song? I would love mariah to do another christmas song or another christmas album for this season

  22. shannon, yo! September 17, 2008

    womp womp all over mariah

Don't know how true this is, but rumor has that she's about 2 months pregnant. That could be why this album is done, but we won't know for a while. If she's not pregnant then a re-release could be in the works. Either way, y'all haters need to fall back. Mariah is a legend and she can still sing circles around these other r&b chicks that are half her age. I personally hope she is pregnant, that way she can take a long break with Nick and raise their child then come back in 2-3 years and shut everyone down again. Love Mariah no matter what.

Mariah let this album sink. Instead of promoting her album and fighting with the label to release the right singles, she goes and “marries” Nick Cannon. Mariah has been in the game since 1990. Even while married to a controlling man I know she took mental notes on how to do some of this industry stuff and it doesn’t make a bit of damn sense how she sat back and didn’t fight harder for this album.

  25. Anonymous September 17, 2008

Nick Cannon looks more like her chauffeur. Like he’s there to help her stand up if she has too much to drink LOL

  26. Anonymous September 18, 2008

Don’t trust in fansites please. Migrate will be single, according to Billboard!!!!!!!!

  27. Anonymous September 19, 2008

If anyone hasn't noticed if you've checked wikipedia, a LP is scheduled to release on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 according to cduniverse.com. So the single is being released just not as a 12" vynl. Hopefully the single does well, and hits the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, because this song is hot, it's one of the best off the album. I don't know why she took so long to release it.

Here's proof that 'Migrate' is being released as an LP on October 7th:
