Diva-in-training Alexandra Burke performed on Ant and Dec’s ITV Boxing Day special yesterday, giving her own unique spin on Mariah Carey‘s festive classic ‘All I Want For Christmas’. Though not a patch on the original (hell Mariah would struggle to do it justice these days), Alex did her thing. I can honestly say Ms. Burke is one of the most engaging performers to emerge in recent years; she really works it out on stage. Gwan!

Even with talent it doesn’t mean success, keep that in mind. Look at so many artists out right now who have talent and no results and Sam stop with the Mimi cheap shots its unnecessary at this point and sounds catty and old are you trying to prove a point because you have expressed the same point hundreds of times and it makes you sound very girlish to say the least among other things. Let’s hope Alex sees a 1/2 of Mimi of success after 2 decades because with Leona now struggling I don’t see Simon pushing Alex to the spotlight over his main star Ms. Lewis.

I like Alexandra, but even I thought this performance was dull. It was boring, the arrangement made the song so easy to sing. I also love Mariah and actually think she could sing this song with ease even today. I know Mariah could not do the original any justice anymore, but she could defo sing it better than that and defo make it look easy. Mariah has always sang the shit out of this song with ease. Its one of her favs to perform and one she really has fun with, even today. I really respect Alexandra as a singer, but when I hear her sing a Mariah song, it just reminds me how good Mariah is, even in her current state as a singer. Her vocal tone is gorgeous. Her pitch is still on point and she can sing that song in a much more difficult key than Alex and still make it look easy. I really like both singers, but the point i’m making is that Sam can say what he wants and think what he wants, cos its his blog and his prerogative to do so, but to try to compare the taste of jacob’s creek wine, to Crystal Champagne is ridiculas. Mariah even today, is a far better singer than anyone out there. She’s nowhere near her 90s standard, but to be fair, her current standard shits on the rest of the ladies out there. i include Whitney, Leona, Mary j etc when i say that.

Was it as good as Mariah’s? No but does it really matter. Alex is not Mariah, she is Alex. She is an alto and so this song is not in her natural range yet she still did a great job with it. She made it fun and added her own little spin on it. Alex has her does her own thing. And who cares if mariah can’t sing it as well as she did in 1994. She did it once and that’s enough. There is no singer alive who can touch what Mariah did in the 90′s with that VOICE. She is still the greatest.

Stop hating people, of course it wasn’t as good as the original. Back in the 90s, Mariah was one of the best singers of all time, and also Alex has a different tone so of course it’s not going to stack up to the original. Also people, remember that this song was written and produced for Mimi, it’s her song, so obviously she’d be able to sing it better. If you gave Mimi Bad Boys to sing, it wouldn’t sound as good as Alex singing it.
