Check out this professionally shot footage of Ciara and Ludacris performing their Urban smash ‘Ride’ at Atlanta radio station 107.9′s Birthday Bash this past weekend.
Though lip-synced (as a Janet / Destiny’s Child supporter, I’m a pro at spotting such things), Ciara turned in an awesome performance.
For, while I’m sure many will let loose about her not singing live, it’s important to stress that an interesting music scene is one in which its artists each offer something different. Hence, while Beyonce may be able to run across the stage in 6inch stiletto’s, shaking 100lbs of weave on her head, and still sing live, that’s not necessarily everyone’s calling. Ciara, much like the Janet’s, Usher’s and Chris Brown’s is a performer, an attribute she clearly plays to.
In a nutshell, instances like this (aka actually working up a sweat and entertaining an audience), are when lipsyncing should get a pass IMO. Not when just walking up and down the stage, posing and rubbing one’s private areas (see: Modern Day Mariah and The Billy Goat).

The actual performance was NOT lip synced. The audio for this video has been dubbed over with the live vocal track. Hence why you cannot hear the crowd throughout the performance!

Lol Ciara is an electrifying performer, I can testify to that as I’ve seen her live…, no she isn’t really a singer so I personally don’t care if she lip-syncs because in all honesty she has the sort of voice you don’t realy want to hear live anyway. She reminds me of Britney Spears in the sense that she just has ‘it’ when she hits the stage to the point where her fans don’t really care if her mic is switched on or not as long as she commands the platform…, as I said in another post she commands it better than most vocalists.
Comparisons to Beyonce are null and void, Beyonce is ultra-woman focus whereas Ciara in her own lane is rawer and more of a tomboy. I used to hate on her for the limited vocals but once I saw her onstage I became a supporter…, not to the point where I’d buy her music but because there is a need for acts like her (though I’ll always think it’s a crying shame she wasn’t born with the voice to match *SMH*)
I definitely think her future lies in choreography in a Fatima kind of way…, most industry watchers know who Fatima is and respect her presence. Ciara gets shade because her thin voice is incapable of silencing her criticism lip-sync or not…, conversely people could hate on Christina Aguilera and Beyonce’s relevance as current pop acts all day but they can never quash their abilities as vocalists.

Royalkev & Remmy are correct Beyonce does not lip synch; she uses pre-recorded background vocals but always sings the lead vocals live even with performances that include dancing. I was suspicious of one of her earlier “Get Me Bodied” performances but when she started performing on a regular basis on her Experience tour she proved that she could also perform that song and routine with live lead vocals. She clearly sang live during all of her performances of SINGLE LADIES and all of the Naughty Girl performances that I’ve seen. She’s pretty much proven time and time and again that she can be a “performer” and “entertain” without resorting to lip syncing AND her singing ability is not questionable in the first place like Ciara’s. This performer/entertainer excuse is just a way around making the bold and truthful statement that CIARA IS NOT A GOOD SINGER EVEN WHILE STANDING OR SITTING STILL so why should she get a pass while dancing. It would be different if we could assume that she could sing the song while if she were not “performing” or “entertaining.”

she does lip the the first verse of “naughty girl” now…but only because in her routines now the song comes after crazy in love (which she of course sings live…and rocks it out) she gives herself a 45 (or so) sec break or so and then rocks out the rest live dancing and running i heels and all lolz…(check I Am Yours and Beyonce Experience performance…) plus she has and can sing(sung) it live so she has nothing to prove…Single Ladies is always live as you said…as far as Get Me Bodied it all depends on what she’s doing…in a whole concert she may lip it for a break of sort (her concerts are like ova two hours of dancing and sing so, I tend t understand)

she wasnt lip syncing.. dis was actually the edited version if you look at the other one you knoe what im talking bout cause da crowd was actually real hype when she came out the crowd was singing b4 she came out like when luda been on stage starting the song… go on youtube and look at this video dey have this version and another one from a different angle which shows the crowd reaction and also why she wasn’t dancing alot cause it was really just a performance to hype the crowd not a rehearsed performance

Beyonce does LIP Sing! Remember that video of her walking down the stairs and she falls, LMAO. The audio was still going, LMAO! Its so obvious, she’s banging her head and up down with her hair going all over the place for those songs.
The only songs she does do live, and ends up out of breath are the slower songs. And its still bad!
This performance that ciara did was tight! I am betting that most guys watching wanted to get up there to RIDE her!

Ciara’s not lipsyncing…………….. Who ever did the editing for this video dub her voice and the backing vocals……Compare this to the original fan video. I’ve seen this before with a girls aloud tour. The fan versions featured Nadine’s real voice while the DVD version dub her voice………………..I’m glad Ciara is gettin a chance to do something for this song. I love this song, but TV not giving her any play but they will play “invented sex” all day ……….COME ON!!!!

Oh yeah, she’s so lazy & yet you’ve heard news about her working on her album since the summer of 09, up until the beginning of May… Yet when see her partying with her friends she’s suddenly “LAZY” & ‘ACTING AS IF SHE’S SOARING TO #1″, when in fact she’s doing what all the celebs do, go out with friends & have fun which she is allowed to do. Ciara is one of the most hard working artist of today & gets next to no credit for the work she puts in. I don’t think Ciara’s problem is neccesarily that she CAN’T sing i just think it’s that her voice is better suited in the studio than on stage. I think when comparing her to likes of Beyonce, you have to look at Beyonce’s upbringing & training growing up as oppose to Ciara’s.
Beyonce from the time she was 8 years-old was training her voice, you can tell even now as she dances real hard & still sounds flawless, sometimes better than the orignal record that Matthew had his daughter & the rest of the girls in “SINGING BOOT CAMP” as Beyonce & Kelly have said time & time again in interviews. He had those girl up at o’clock in the morning running & singing @ the same time because he knew that a live performance is where you show your stuffn & he knew that his daughter had a POWERHOUSE voice & he didn’t want it to be wasted becasue she was too tired after dancing really hard.
Then we have Ciara, a girl who for the most part lived all around the city, grew up listening to the likes of Janet & Michael Jackson (Michael being her biggest inspiration), decided when was 13 years-old & living in Atlanta that she wanted to pursue a career in music. She didn’t have the training in singing that Beyonce did, but she had years of practice when it came to dancing. Ciara for the most part of her teenage years lived a normal life, when she was 16 she got a record deal with Laface/Zomba records & went into extreme training, with her voice & dancing, but i think she missed out on the crucial parts as a little girl to develop that voice & to make an impression with it. She gets tired from dancing so hard that she barley has time to catch her breath to even sing, let alone sing well. I think she has a nice voice, IMO I think that she sings very well when standing still (with the exception of Never Ever, I mean that’s a hard song to sing, & I applaud Ciara for challenging her vocal ability), we all saw the webisodes where she actually sounded good & was working on her voice with her vocal coach. I think that if Ciara had the training Beyonce had growing up, she’d be able to hold her own when it comes to singing.
And that there folks is my OPINION, you don’t have to like it, just respect it.
