Many of your will remember Tahj Mowry from the hit show ‘Smart Guy’, or as the younger brother of twins Tia and Tamera (of ‘Sister Sister’ fame).
The young actor appears to be making a foray into music, recently posting his cover of John Legend‘s ‘Ordinary People’ on Youtube.
While we’re all for following one’s dreams, we’re also advocates for singing songs in your range; Mowry’s showing being a case, point, example of doing the complete opposite.
The 24 year old definitely has an interesting tone, one which would likely benefit from him tackling more Pop-orientated songs. For, as his showing here underscored – you simply can’t fake soul or passion in your vocal delivery. You either have it or you don’t, the latter being the case for the aspiring singer.

I’ve been watching smart guy non stop for the past few months (lol) he did alright and he turned out to be a nice looking 24 year old (thought he was younger than that) his sister’s show is coming back in January yayyy.

Though this is definitely sung in the upper octave, I would have to say that Tahj held his own vocally. With the quick little trills and runs to refresh the vocally straight song, it was cool. His tone is clearly audible with a light nasally sound and a little bit of vibrato. With some vocal lessons, he can strengthen and smooth his vibrato out so it can be less noticeable when she sings. I can hear him on the radio…a mini Ne-Yo or Trey Songz!
