Mariah Carey recently taped her performances for the 27th annual Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade. The diva performed the classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and ‘Oh Santa’ from her new Christmas album, ‘Merry Christmas II You’. Peep the fan footage below:

The main problem that I have with Carey’s performances during the last few years is her inconsistency. While I understand that performing at outdoor venues almost always requires singers to lip-synch because of sound recording issues (see the Superbowl, etc), I see no reason why she couldn’t have sung ‘All I Want…’ live.
In fact, Carey delivered a powerful and near-flawless version of ‘Oh Santa’ without the aid of a backtrack so what was the excuse for miming ‘All I Want…’? We have seen her perform the latter several times live in recent years and she even did it at the 2004 Disney Parade.
Although there are several hormonal effects that Carey’s pregnancy may be having on her voice, her ability to sing one song completely live almost refutes that argument. If she wants to impress those who doubt her current vocal ability then she needs to go the extra mile, sing live as often as possible and leave the lip-syncing to Kelly Rowland.

I still get goosebumps watching her 2004 performance of “All I Want is You.” This legend, this icon, this diva is the greatest artist of all time after MJ. Her sales and music speak for themselves. Mariah is a done deal….the reason she was successful because she was married her own boss….over-played her octave voice as part of marketing strategy. The fact is she the most over-rated diva of all time.

The fact that she could start off being one of the greatest LIVE singers on the planet in the 90s – to a studio singer who either lipsynchs the whole song or use pre-recorded vocals for high notes – is just SAD.

Of course it does! Only a lunatic will think it doesn’t. I used to be a big Mariah fan but why does she continue to lipsynch? It’s really frustrating to me and so many others who used to root for her. I just can’t root for her anymore. Her pregnancy is an excuse; she’s been lipsynching for years. It’s so unprofessional as a singer/vocalist to lipsynch. The more she pretends to be young and hip the more she alienates her fan base. I’m 35 and I used to be a LAMB in the early 2000s. Mariah needs to realize that her fans are growing with her, she’s 40 years old and still trying to be “young”. I’d like to see Mariah deliver something soulful, something that sends chills down my spine – just like how she did 20 years ago. I don’t want her to pretend she can still hit those whistle notes by lipsynching. That’s a complete waste of my time – I can watch those whistle notes on her old videos. Honestly I don’t care if she can hit those Es or Cs. I just want to hear her sing – LIVE. 100% That’s why I have more respect for Whitney, who is clearly way past her prime, voice is damaged but I saw her AMA performance and the tour performances of I look to you I didn’t know my strength, etc. and I have to say she sounds like a real SINGER whose voice has matured but also gained that rich quality and soulfulness it didn’t have when she was 20. Celine – never was a fan of hers and she’s lipsynching so I’ve lost respect for her as well. For those who say lipsynching doesn’t matter – what a load of BS. Of course it matters, at least to someone who’s been a Mariah FAN since I was 14.
