It’s been a turbulent few years for R&B vixen Teairra Mari. Indeed, since departing Roc-A-Fella in 2006, the singer’s career has been plagued by label drama and many a failed single.
Hoping to turn the tide, the 23 year old has announced that she has severed ties with Warner (to whom she’s been signed since 2008), and has jumped ship to Rico Love‘s Division 1 imprint over at Universal Motown.

As a longtime supporer of Ms. Mari’s, it’s great to hear that she’s pushing on and making the right moves to facilitate success (working in-house with hitmaker Rico Love is quite the coup for the still young and able star). That said, she’ll need to remove more than label politics from the equation if things are to pop all the way off. First being the overt “sexy” she’s been selling for the last few years. As the age old adage goes: no one will buy what you’re selling if you’re giving it away for free. All that T&A was was a nay-nay.
What’s more, she’ll also need to brush up on her stage performances if she’s to rise through the ranks. Those cook-out esque routines just weren’t cutting it.
That said, we’re excited to see how this new twist plays out. Here’s hoping her new team can turn the lights on for this persevering talent.

what do you mean? sponsor was doing well until BET Boycotted the video and wouldnt play it. the only singles she has released are “cause a scene”, “sponsor” and “body”. the rest of those videos were just for buzz… they werent singles at all. check for yourself.

I support Teairra and I love her, but I just stopped being optimistic.She needs a label to launch her and give her a direction and Rico’s label is not strong enough to give her a fair chance of succeeding.I’m still anticipating her material, though.Keep fighting!
I’m happy for her. But I’m starting to think that Rico-love hates Jay-z & company. He took Kelly and really helped her re-vamped her musically after she had been misguided, misdirected and left out in the cold on purpose–now he’s taking Teairra and will do the same thing. People can say she doesn’t have an “it” factor, but people have been made famous with less “it” and less talent than her.

Last year I was confused about how Ciara was able to do fantasy ride then basic instinct, make videos and keep buying fancy clothes and not lose her house, learned Ciara was modeling and hosting and had that Verizon contract, but what the heck is Teaiira Mari doing to make money to keep her able to survive, Who she dating? Why can’t this ghetto chick realize that she just isn’t made out to be a star? Rico Love is a damn songwriter and producer, not a manager or someone who markets people! There’s a big difference. She’s under his label, which is under a major label, but we all know how those work out, G-Unit, Rocafella, StaTrack (Pharell), and many more! Plus Universal is horrible! They hardly marketed Kelly Rowland! This is the second time she got dropped from a label. First it was Rocafella, then it was Violator Management under Interscope, now this. She must be f****** for tracks because she’s put out like a thousand videos for these s*****, mixtape songs. I mean, the videos were very low budget, but that s*** adds up! What I don’t like about her is that she has a basic voice, is hoish and ghetto, and makes ghetto music. We don’t need any more basic chicks selling s** in this industry. Why don’t these flops just get a good, college education?
Tearra Mari ‘s ONLY problem is her image. She’s so forgettable.

I think this is a GREAT move for her and her career. Warner Bros didn’t know what the hell they was doing with her so I’m sure her leaving didn’t have any misunderstanding or hassle. It was beginning to get a bit irritating with her continuously releasing mix tapes yet no official album. Rico Love is a hit maker, and this in fact is what she needs at this point. I love her and wish she much luck and success!

Realize she DID NOT GET DROPPED! She LEFT, and not every song she recorded is ghetto. If your so well kept up on the labels she’s been on, you should be well kept on what songs she’s recorded. smh, but I do agree, Kelly didn’t get the right promo she needed for ‘Here I Am’, and, hopefully, they learned from that, and put it all in work for Teairra.
Personally i don’t think there is anything exciting about her voice, so unless she ends up doing an Alexis Jordan (pop) then success is anyones guess.
Although i like Rico Loves music i cannot stand the fact that nearly every song on Kelly Rowland’s album has “turn the lights on” If she escapes this she’s won half the battle
I don’t know if this move will help her. Hardly anyone’s checking for her. She needs a new image and singles.
Good for her. I think she should continue acting and taking acting classes just in case her music career does not launch a second album.
