Must Hear: Melody Thornton – ‘Lipstick & Guilt’

Published: Monday 5th Mar 2012 by David

Every now and again, a song comes along and changes your entire perception of the act behind it.

Today that happened- and this time, it was with Melody Thornton.

Without further delay, get into her latest effort ‘Lipstick & Guilt‘ below…

Lifted from her new ‘P.O.Y.B.L‘ mixtape, ‘Guilt‘ is classic from top to bottom.

Thematically, she ventures on ground even the likes of GaGa would think twice before tackling, and vocally- she’s never sounded better, belting without ‘over singing’, showcasing the strength all too ignored during her days as a ‘Doll’.

It’s great! I need a few more spins, though. I do appreciate the fact that it’s anything but generic 🙂

  6. Lax March 5, 2012

Wonderful! Talented, and she a Cutie…

  7. D.Strock March 5, 2012

I love her. I think she’s got real character to her voice, and I hope she finds some real success soon

  8. Teacher March 5, 2012

Urrrrmmm love all of it from the beat to her voice, well styled song… Mixtape should shape up well…

  10. Poisonous March 5, 2012

Its great and not generic, but I still prefer Nicole.

The lyrics are tight. The beat of course gives it that extra punch. But she’s still missing that something. Maybe they should have given this track to Rita Ora. It’s a little too cheap for Christina but she would have ate this b****. LOL I was just talking about this girl too. Melody just ain’t got it to me.

I really love her and I love this, but she does sound a little off key too me–if she was on-key this would be the s***. She murdered ‘Love Gun’. If you spin this a few times it gets better. I hope she becomes a big star and she could. If someone gave her the right songs, a fresh sound (Like a Cee-Lo sound) and kept her from over-singing she’d smash.

Nicole can’t sing that well to me.

  16. CH March 5, 2012

    YES! Preach Rev. Thornton!

  17. Jordan March 5, 2012

I’m confused, I don’t hear anything off key. The beat is not very melody-inducing anyway besides the chorus.

Anyway this was awesome. She has some pipes! Hope that she gets the marketing that she needs.

    @ JORDAN
Perhaps my sense of pitch is too tight for my own good
I hear a lot of notes that deviate from ideal intonation
It’s not OMG wildly off tune, it’s just some notes here and there are too loose intonation wise.

  19. Vegas Girl March 6, 2012

    I like the song.

  20. @antertain March 6, 2012

yep defo hearing how Xtina influence her vocals

  21. The_Glam_Guru March 6, 2012

Coming from a trained musical stand point. She is FARRRRR from off key. Secondly, her vocals are CRAZY on this track. Between the passion, Haunting and powerful delivery she is almost too much to take. Im so proud of her and I will be following her closely. Great job MEL!

  22. jesselopez March 6, 2012
