Nicki Minaj Sets New Female Rap Record

Published: Wednesday 14th Mar 2012 by Rashad

Looks like the wigged wonder is looking to reassert her (contemporary) reign over female rap yet again as reports surface of yet another accolade.  As ‘Starships’ singer Nicki Minaj prepares to launch the video for the first official release from her sophomore set ‘Pink Friday:  Roman Reloaded’, reports are indicating the rapstress’s other pop single ‘Super Bass’ is still winning over the fans.

Get into the details below:

Source:

“Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” also tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. It’s the first song by a female rapper to reach that plateau. No other songs by female rappers (as the lead artist) have hit even 2 million. Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” (featuring Drake) is second, with sales of 1,594,000. Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” is third, with sales of 1,359,000. (Elliott’s biggest hits, including the mega-hit “Work It,” were released before the advent of digital, or in the early years of digital, when sales were slimmer.)”

******

If Minaj can match or best the success of ‘Bass’ has yet to be seen, but if the response to the (buzz and official) singles from ‘Reloaded’ are anything to judge by, Minaj might wanna go back to the drawing board.  And with ‘Minute Man’ maestra Missy Elliott and Paypal queen Lil Kim set to make their returns this year (and, of course, the up-and-comers), Miss Minaj may have a little (direct) competition on her hands for once.

As ever, will definitely be interesting to see how this plays out.  In the mean time, congrats are in order!

Please stop trying to compare this POP-RAPPER with actual RAP FEMCEEs! She is considered a POP act. POP music receives all the public promotion in the world..yippy for them!

    ZZZZZZ….YAWN………WHO REALLY GIVES A F*CK!

**Go Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Eve, Foxy Brown, queen Latifia, TLC, etc the REAL FEMCEEs who blazed a trail whether they were praised by the “POPULAR SOCIETY” or not!

WHAT’S ALL THE COMPARING ABOUT NICKI IS NOT EVEN A RAPPER. MISSY AND KIM ARE. NIKCI KILLED WHAT WAS LEFT OF RAP. SHE’S DOING POP, HOWEVER WHEN SHE COMES WITH AN ENTIRE RAP ALBUM THEN WE WILL COMPARE. WE ALL KNOW POP MUSIC SALES PERIOD, REGUARDLESS BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE DON’T CARE FOR REAL LYRICS ITS WHATEVER IS CATCHY. THE STANDARD OF RAP AND MUSIC PERIOD IS VERY LOW TODAY. WHEN NICKI COMES WITH AN ALBUM LIKE:
    LIL KIM:HARDCORE
    LIL KIM:LABELLA MAFIA
    :LIL KIM:NOTORIOUS K.I.M
    LIL KIM:THE NAKED TRUTH
    FOXY BROWN:ILL NANA
    MISSY ELLIOT:SUPA DUPA FLY
THEN WE CAN TALK. THATS LIKE COMPARING ARETHA FRANKLIN TO BRITTANY SPEARS. AND I DIDN’T KNOW “SUPERBASS” WAS HIP HOP JUST BECAUSE SHE RHYMING DOESN’T MAKE IT RAP, IM SORRY.

Yet again Kendrick Lamar gives his fans and competitors another reason to say “damn.” The Grammy-winning rapper, whose latest album, ‘Damn,’ was released on April 14th, was projected to top the Billboard 200 with an impressive 485,000 units moved.  If the prediction remained true it would give his set the honor of… Read More
