It’s Official: Jennifer Lopez Leaves ‘American Idol’ (Audio)

Looks like FOX’s ‘American Idol’ is looking to give the idea of musical chairs a new meaning.

As has made its share of circulation, the speculation that ‘If You Had My Love’ singer Jennifer Lopez had intentions to return to the next season of ‘American Idol’ was ended when the songstress officially announced her departure today.

Indeed, yesterday did see the exit of fellow singer Steven Tyler from the show’s judging panel (as Lopez implied the chance of her following suit).  Well, the Bronx beauty cleared up any rumors as she phoned in to Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show to tearfully impart news of her pending departure.

We guess not even that cool multimillion dollar payout was enough to keep the ‘On the 6’ maestra onboard.  Take a listen below:

And there you have it people.  With news that Lopez longtime “rival” Mariah Carey will assume the judge’s seat in her stead, it will be interesting to see how the next few days play out.

For ‘Idol’ has truly been the catalyst that reignited interest in J.Lo’s career, so it will be interesting to see how it will sustain without that stage to play to.

Even though I don’t watch that show I think the only thing Idol was holding her back from was a stalled music career. But I really believe leaving the show will not help her music career. She was able to do lucrative endorsements while on the show just not touring. From a business sense I think she should have stayed and just tried to revive her music career during off season. It is not like Idol is a full time job and she gets plenty of months off. As for her likely replacement, Mariah, I think Mariah is the perfect diva for the job but her personality can be a bit bitchy sometimes so I hope tones it down just a tad to win over viewers. I don’t mean for her to tone it down too much but just a little.

Whoa. Ya see that’s when you know that you got doe. 15 million for judging other people’s talent and drinking Coca Cola. When you walk away from that, you are a paid B itch.

    • James227 July 13, 2012

Hell yea that b**** got paid and now she can walk the walk . She will be the author of her own career. She’s pulling the shots now. You go girl

  3. ThatGrapefruitJuice July 13, 2012

Good riddance. Now I can exhale.

  4. James227 July 13, 2012

Good for Jennifer & Steve the show is not like it used to be anyway.

    First rule of show business:

Never take a job under Simon Cowell.

Seems like all his shows have just been playing fast and loose with their judges lately.

Considering Idol is played out and boring they NEED to have interesting judges to bring people in. I love Mariah but it’s not like she’s gonna be more interesting as a judge.

The Voice was smart. They started with young, musically relevant stars who were STILL (save for Christina) in the middle of successful careers. All these Simon shows want to go back to the 80’s and 90’s to have people host. Smh.

    • ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 14, 2012

      “save for Christina”???

Maroon 5 were fresh from flopping with a non-gold album and 2 singles that radio never played. At least ‘Bionic’ shipped about a million worldwide…All the judges on ‘The Voice’ are good and credible artists, regardless of each one’s commercial success. That’s the key to the show’s success.

good who is she to be judging a singing compitition. she doesnt really have a coice where she can be like . um you can sing u cant sing. stick to movies and fashion j.lo singing days r not hot anymore.

  7. christinastherealtalent July 13, 2012

Why hasn’t this show been canceled yet? The last successful person that won was Carrie 7 years ago. The last few years, the person who should’ve won, actually came runner up. The last few winners have all been male. This show has gone through 6 different judge line ups. The ratings have been down. Why is this show still airing?

  8. nnnnn July 13, 2012

    thank god she left

  9. ENOUGH ONIKA July 13, 2012

    Bye…

  10. Jak July 13, 2012

Mariah better not sit her ass on that panel unless she’s getting paid at the very least a cool $30mil

    • Virtuoso Intellect July 14, 2012

      Make that $40 mil boo

  11. Cassie July 13, 2012

-_- Well she never really had any business judging other singers on a show with her mediocre singing ability in the first place but good for her I guess. It would have made more sense if she had been a judge on a dance show like ‘So you think you can dance’.

  12. BEYONCE’S WEAVE July 13, 2012

I don’t buy the quit story, she was obviously given a choice, quit or you’re fired. The ratings were bad, obviously idol is shopping for new judges, especially seeing that x factor has Brit Brit

    • jesselopez July 22, 2012

I you f****** serious?!?! you think of all three judges they gave JLO the pink slip and said pack up?? the only reason they had any decent ratings these lasts two seasons was because of the one and only JLO..and who’s checking for x factor and unstable brit? surely not me, now that jlo has left i won’t be watching any of these singing shows.

  13. YouDoRealize… July 14, 2012

I honestly don’t give to shits and a f*** but its sad to see. There were days when you had the same judges for 10 years. Now they’re being switched up every two or three seasons.

  14. rayray July 14, 2012

is it just me.. or was the sure humiliation of losing in the soon to be ratings battle against Britney Spears too much for her?!?

  15. Casual July 14, 2012

American Idol is still a top rated show. It’s ratings have declined, but that’s true across the Nielsens.

J-Lo was getting paid huge stacks to sit back, look good, and judge, plus she had the off season to tour and do whatever else she wanted to do. AI is the ONLY reason she’s back on the charts and relevant again. I don’t think leaving is a smart move.

  16. The Zolonski Trap July 14, 2012

The only thing worth watching after season 3 of American idol are the auditions. Why does it still air, IDFK?

  17. number1k9 July 14, 2012

I will miss J.Lo on Idol.

And Steven for that matter. They both really added the perfect newness and change Idol needed! Both were way better judges than Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGenres (pointless judge)!

Though I would rather see J.Lo bow out before the show gets canned entirely. She and Steven added the boost it needed for season 10 and 11, and now unless Phillip Phillips becomes a huge star season 12 (13 if lucky) will certainly be its last.

I am NOT here to watch Mariah Carey or Adam Lambert (especially) judge the show. Doubt MC would commit when she didn’t for X Factor. But yeah good luck with the new judges, oh and Randy I am SURE you are gonna be canned! They are trying to revamp the entire show, minus Ryan.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they even did a 2 female, 1 male judge panel!

  18. Virtuoso Intellect July 14, 2012

No no no pls i do not want MC on that seat. Wth that sh*t is for has-beens/ struggling artists. Give it to Jessica Simpson or Anita Baker. Mariah is too huge a star pls and she’s releasing new music. We need as much promo as possible. It’s been way too long

    • Mobwife July 14, 2012

Hey, Anita Baker is a TRUE LEGEND! She doesn’t need to do this type of crap. Give it to Beyonce, she can bring Blue’s dangling feet for effect!

      • Virtuoso Intellect July 14, 2012

Girl go play in traffic. True legend my ass

      • Mobwife July 14, 2012

After you girl! If you don’t know Antia Baker is a LEGEND than a tall building might be a much better option!

    • Cassie July 14, 2012

The f***? How dare you bring Anita Baker into this, let alone put her in the same sentence as that has-been/ yelling/screeching/ weird ass faces singer Jessica Simpson. Unlike Jessica, Anita is well respected and is known for her good music and singing; only has-beens who have nothing better to do or is struggling to stay relevant are judges thus Jessica would be perfect for it not Mariah or Anita.

  19. Todd July 14, 2012

Please, please Mariah, don’t do this! Please! Ur way too great for that! Please! Just focus on doin great music!

  20. Mobwife July 14, 2012

The problem with these shows is they try to get ppl with established careers in the music indusry to bring in ratings. However, the majority of the ppl that serve are either relatively new arists or seasoned acts who are looking to reinvent themselves and jumpstart their MUSIC careers. No one who is an established artist will stay on these type TV programs for more than 2 -3 years tops! Once they re-establish a buzz and start charting music agian, they will be on their merry way! Steven Tyler & JLO’s deartures are not unexpected.

I actually think Adam Lambert would be interesting as a judge. He gets a buzz for obvious reasons where his music is concerned but, ppl don’t really check for him outside a “small community”. Although he is not really an established act, he would bring something interesting to the table IMO! I could see pAnk following behind the leaders Christian & Britney to do a show.

**I’d beat money they will go after Adam L & pAnk!!

    • Mobwife July 14, 2012

      *BET

    • WTF? July 14, 2012

      Who the f*** is pAnk?

      P!nk? ? ?

  21. sammi July 14, 2012

How about this, the show should have been canceled yrs ago. It had a 10 yr run, it was fun for a few seasons and then they drug it out and rode until the wheels fell off. Some of us only watch it for the horrible auditions anyway, the ppl who fake horrid auditions just to get some buzz. I dont care what JLo does at this point cause honestly, nobody’s checked for her since 2004. She lost the appeal she once had, beauty, nice body, pretty ok movies. Who cares about her in 2012. Im amazed she is on tour, who is buying tickets to see her?

  22. latifa July 15, 2012

I think it would be a good move for mariahs career, reintroducing her to the public and giving her the exposure to boost her comeback as it did for jlo. howwwwever someone as established and talented as mariah (in the league of original divas) and with her talent and 20+ years in the biz, taking the move would look desperate on mariahs part

  23. EriStar42 July 16, 2012

They might as well just cancel the show. After all, the ratings are low because of the changing of the judges and the fact that “white guys with guitar” always win now. I know this is random, but with indiepop music is starting to play on pop radio stations now, soon, every artist or band will record their own music under and independent label, and release it on vinyl and/or m** ONLY – CDs might become obsolete soon. Only kids 12-16 will watch Idol and older people (18+) will be digging through record crates and watching retro TV shows. I predict all this will happen by 2013 and continue to happen years onwards.

  24. mido July 17, 2012

she left so i wont see the show again . JLO forever

  25. DONALD ZOLANSKI July 18, 2012
