MTV's VMAs Suffer Ratings Dip

Despite boasting appearances from One Direction, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, it seems last night’s VMAs  is one MTV won’t be too pleased about today.

This, because after pulling in an audience of 12.4 million last year, last night’s show welcomed a less than stellar 6.1 million, likely to have been affected by the momentum garnered by close competitor, President’s Obama‘s speech at the Democratic National Convention.

The Hollywood Reporter explains:

About 6.1 million viewers tuned into Thursday night’s telecast of the VMAs, dropping more than half its audience from last year’s record 12.4 million haul. In the network’s target 12-34 demo, the VMAs drew a 5.3 rating.

Year to year, the VMAs were down more than 50 percent in total viewers.”

Ummm there was no Britney, no Beyonce and no Lady Gaga. I’m sure MTV will make sure to have them 3 in attendance next year. Hopefully this will be a lessoned learned.

No gaga – check. No beyonce – check. No Britney – check. There are three reasons why the ratings have more than halved, no other reasons but those

Beyonce barely shows up at award shows when the popular people are there..Like everybody was waiting to see what was going to happen with Drake, Chris, and Rihanna..Also we all know Wiz and Amber was being a look out for LOL Bey only comes when she’s the only big big name in the building..DMC was more important anyways..and they need to understand we’re tired of seeing the same damn people.. LIKE ENOUGH ALREADY..

Just compare last year’s line up : Adele, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Bey’s pet camel, Kanye West, and my main man CHRIS BROWN <– who just did the damn thing. A$$holes complained and talk sh*t but they know he gave a memorable performance! That show had it going on from all sides. Again, this year there was no excitement and no real performers to speak of!

you all are so delusional. King Beyonce only shows up when there are big names that can be said in the same sentence as her, i.e. people on her level. (Jay, Kanye, Wayne, Adele, Gaga, Britney etc.).. Going to a show where the “highlights” are supposedly Rihanna, Taylor Swift, One Direction and so forth is like having your mom chaperone your 6th grade back to school dance.
