New Video: Alicia Keys – ‘Girl On Fire’

Published: Friday 19th Oct 2012 by David

It’s finally here!

Set to serve as a much needed push for the single, Alicia Keys has finally released the video for her new single ‘Girl On Fire‘, lifted from her studio album of the same name.

Does the visual live up to its hype?

You decide below…

Much like the cut itself, Keys’ visual is both rich in tone and texture, and will no doubt come as a welcome surprise to any who feared the clip would fail to live up to expectations.

A little ‘Sade-ish’ by way of look, we’re entirely here for Alicia shying away from serving a literal interpretation of the lyrics, opting not to play the rebel we met in the song but an altruistic ‘Mary Poppins‘ esque character.

A commentary on the ”Do It All‘  approach of the modern woman? Perhaps. All we know is, that save for ‘Karma’, ‘Girl‘ is easily her strongest video to date and has us itching to get our hands on its supporting LP.

“Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway….”

Alicia is forever representing the “superwoman” of the world.

    Can’t wait for the CD!

  3. FAF October 19, 2012

  6. Auntie_Jackie October 19, 2012

Great video, but I haven’t been to hot on Alicia’s new music. I think this cutie video will sell the song.

  7. Matthew Charlery-Smith October 19, 2012

    Love it!

I appluad Alicia for doing something unexpected, creative and different with the video for this song. It’s made me a) like the song more and b) look forward to the whole album and era.

Way to go Alicia, THIS is how you ignite consumer interest in your work. Not by trying too hard or stealing ideas like some artists!

The lighting and effects were great too!

  8. Truth October 19, 2012

LOVE IT OMG! LENA HORNE MIX WTH SADE MIX WITH MARY POPPINS…..ALICIA KEYS IS ON FIREEEEEEEEE

  9. Jer October 19, 2012

Omg whats the point? This somg was DOA and dont get me started on that hoarse crackling VMA performance

    • Qazzo October 19, 2012

Always so negative. Everything you say is either cynical or nasty/immature. You have to be one very unhappy person behind the keyboard. Perhaps one day things will get better for you.

      • RandomBlogReader(RBR) October 19, 2012

        He/She is probably young……

    • GivingAwayFreeChairs October 20, 2012

@Jer, here _/ . Nothing personal, just sit in it. Oh, and you’re welcome.

  10. Girrrl October 19, 2012

I don’t like the video but peaking at #27 is a great feat (NOT a flop) for a comeback R&B song. Alicia Keys’ fans don’t let her fall and that is great (best stans in R&B). She’s gonna do numbers when that album comes out.

  11. MC October 19, 2012

    Cute video.

  12. Jade October 19, 2012

Awww. I like the video, it’s very nice. The visuals and effects are wonderful too. Go Alicia!!

  13. vel October 19, 2012

  14. RUDE NAVY October 19, 2012

Please Do NOT compare SADE to anybody , Like for real , f*****’ Please , just do NOT. this woman is simply a whole lots of CLASS embodied into a Woman !

    • RUDE NAVY October 19, 2012

and i like both the song and the video , i love alicia 😀

    • Truth October 19, 2012

Sade mentioned that people think that Alicia and her look alike.

      • RUDE NAVY October 19, 2012

Well , u can mention SADE’s name ONLY in cases like this …

      • Auntie_Jackie October 19, 2012

        RUDE NAVY

Quit your bitching! Alicia loves Sade, views her as one of her idols, and Sade loves her back. Yes, Sade is a Goddess, but you don’t have to be so damn nasty about it.

  15. Rihanna Navy October 19, 2012

    LOVE LOVE IT.

    • Rihanna Navy October 19, 2012

This what these girls need to do esp the R&B acts. They need to be more artistic and conceptional when it comes to their music videos. we live in an age where visuals is just as important if not more important than the song it self. great visuals equal good sales. I love the lighting and it have a that SADE feel to it which i love. Kudos AK!!

  16. Truth October 19, 2012

I would love to see Alicia Keys work with Rihanna….. LOVE THOSE TWO TOGETHER.

    • Please H** October 19, 2012

      GTFOH

    • Rihanna Navy October 19, 2012

lol no honey they are better off doing their own thing. look at the mess that happen with beyonce on put it in a lovesong js

  17. @S*** October 19, 2012

SMH, Her Music & Career been goin down the drain ever since she started working with GAY Z & BEYOWULF, guess they used witchcraft to sabotage her career.

  18. me October 19, 2012

    great video

i was nervous and cringing before i watched it but the fashion, colours and the body and the SADE feel SERVED LIFE!!!!!!!!

  19. BEYONCE NEEDS TO TAKE NOTES AND CHANGE THAT TIRED BLOND WIG OF HERS. October 19, 2012

    • Peter Griffin October 19, 2012

      Lol.

  23. Let’s Be Real October 19, 2012

ima be real …the look of it was cute.cinematography was different. but the story line itself is boring.I just expected more.THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE!! no life was given though…

  24. Boss October 19, 2012

Girl on fire? All i see is ashes. Not really feelin the vid but she look rite.

  25. theman October 19, 2012

She looks beautiful, but the video has nothing to do with the song.

  26. RICHANDBLACK11(JUST LIKE BEY) October 19, 2012

yasss A-KEY rep POWERFUL BLACK WOMEN

  27. Peter Griffin October 19, 2012

Why didn’t she just release her version of ‘New Day’ as the lead single. This ain’t buzzing her new album at all! Just makes her seem as boring as ever.

  28. Can’t play piano but am s*** and you know it October 19, 2012

Nobody talking about Rihanna’s pregnancy and marriage to chris brown?

    • Rihanna Navy October 19, 2012

      gurl bye

  29. Chachanana12 October 19, 2012

Nice! Song is okay I perfer the remix. She isn’t screaming either! But even I know her voice/career hasn’t been the same since Swiss Beats. A lot of people say this and I never heard that J & B messed her up. But oh well. Bye Haters! Cool vid Alicia

  30. Sonya October 19, 2012

I also love “New DAy” and would have loved for Alicia to released it first but I also love this song, so it’s all good. As far as I’m concerned Alicia can’t go wrong with her music. She is so into it that whatever she does has got to work. This song is no exception. Alicia is definitely a “girl on fire”. I love the concept of the video. It’s not too over the top but with a few surprises here and there. Can’t wait for the album.

  31. Love October 19, 2012

She sounds horrible on that song, LAWD. I like her but I’ve always felt she was a bit overrated. She’s made decent singles in the past, but her albums always feel incomplete. This one is a NO GO for me, ugh!

  32. King. October 19, 2012

Loved it. I kinda wish she did a video for the Inferno version w/ Nicki though.

  33. Michelle October 19, 2012

Loved the video, can’t wait for this album it is going to be awesome, especially her duet with Maxwell. Lawd!!!! that is giving me life.

  34. MRDIVABITCH October 19, 2012

Alicia Keys always sounds like she just ate spicy food, raw eggs, smoked a blunt, drank some whiskey and then went and threw up.

  35. Kerry October 19, 2012

This is the worst/ cheapest looking video I’ve seen in 27 years

  36. THE SUN KING October 19, 2012

I’m glad that Alicia is finally comfortable making grown up music for adults instead of gettin on stage and jiggling her uterus like some other female singers.

  37. MISHKA October 20, 2012

    Loooooooooooooooooooooove it !!!

    Female empowerment galore!

Thank you so much, Alicia !!!

  38. mobwife: easy, breezy, forcheezy October 20, 2012

Alicia is becoming as trite as pAnk with the same old feminist girl-power blah, blah, blah theme! This song is just okay and they took too long to release a video for such a lackluster song! Hopefully her next single will be more “Alicia Keysish”

  39. Career Ender (Fierce Warrior) October 20, 2012

Aint @S*** a die hard Bey Stan? What happened?

Or is this a fake @S***?

  40. JuanR October 20, 2012

    Great video!
    But Sade too much?

And really where’s Nicki? She was great on this song.

  41. virtuoso intellect October 20, 2012

i loved her styling and lighting effects. the video is aesthetically pleasing

  42. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) October 20, 2012

Amazing video, horrible song. 🙁 I just can’t get into it and her horrible vocals during live performanes of the song don’t help. Hoping for a better 2nd single tbh 😎

  43. R****** Navy: Broke,Ugly & bitter October 20, 2012

YAWN! The video was so boring! Stealicia just doesn’t have a commanding screen presence. Plus don’t compare this Homewrecker to a class act like Sade!

  44. R****** Navy: Broke,Ugly & bitter October 20, 2012

    Her live vocals are terrible!

  45. Ty October 20, 2012

    low-budget, cheap script.

  46. joseph October 20, 2012

    Wow this is lame !
    I didn’t expect a low budget video/ a cliche and boring storyline / mediocre visuals / poor acting /

    – for the lead single of Alicia keys COMEBACK

This is an empowering song !!
And all we get is the massage that mothers are also strong .
    well thats a break throw!
Thank you Alicia keys for opening my eyes !

im sorry but someone did a very bad poor job

(and i would fire the video director _ just because someone needs to be punished for this )

  47. Anne October 20, 2012

I think the song and the video are both FORGETTABLE. There’s nothing about the video that makes me want to see it again and nothing about the song that makes me want to hear it again. She needed a stronger video to bring more appeal to this mediocre song.

  48. bibi93 October 20, 2012

    Great Alicia !!

  49. LoveIt October 20, 2012

Great video, she should give a little credit to that one video w/the white guy, great commercial!!!!

  50. IkeFierce October 21, 2012

I’m really not feeling the video at all, all the actions seem so forced. If the director had filmed them in more natural settings & lighting it would have been more believable. Alicia’s poor acting didn’t help either. Great song though, I just wish the video lived up to expectations.

  51. Floponce October 26, 2012

This is such a cheap looking mid-90s style music video. It’s either those who said this was good were blind or just morons. The set looks cheap, the styling atrocious, the lighting terrible. She probably shot this in a day.

    Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!
