Michelle Williams has spent much of 2012 crafting her new album, a project she’s confirmed boasts an “R&B inspirational” sound and a project which, for many, signifies her official return to the Gospel arena. And while the Light Records set isn’t due until next year, the Destiny’s Child graduate is re-lighting her live fire, performing at the Rockford First church in her hometown of Chicago over the weekend.
Watch below as Michelle blows the roof off the venue with a ‘Gospel Medley’ comprised of songs that featured on the inspirational medley’s on her debut album ‘Heart To Yours’ and DC’s ‘Survivor’. They are Anna Bartlett Warner hymn ‘Jesus Loves Me’, Kirk Franklin‘s ‘Holy Is the Lamb’ and Richard Smallwood‘s ‘Total Praise’.
Criminally underrated, vocal showings like this re-affirm Michelle’s positional as a vocal force. We’re so glad she’s once again playing in an arena that will showcase her gift at its qualitative best – Gospel. Can the church say…AMEN!

The album was ahead of its time. The urban scene weren’t ready for something so electronic and dancey.
Unexpected should have been pushed to pop audiences. Where were the pop and rhythmic adds for We Break the Dawn, The Greatest and Hello Heartbreak.

I am a beyonce fan, but I’ve always been a fan of Michelle’s vocals & personality!!!! Y’all better get into her vocals! She grew up COGIC (like me) and the Clark Sisters, The Winans, Kim Burrell, Tamala Mann, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary and so many other top, great gospel vocalists!

I so can’t wait for her too release her thirth gospel album. It will be so amazing. Her first and second album are so priceless and her CD unexpected is still a very hot and explosive album. She is following her heart and she will deliver suns which can help people with their lifes. It is the best gift she can give to the world. Even her unexpected cd has wonderful songs from start tour finish. I am do glad to have Michelle Williams in my life (F)

Awesome! She is my favorite – always rooting for the underdog. Whether or not you like her voice, she can sing! Don’t confuse not liking her voice with not being able to sing. Her training and background in stage has really helped her improve her tone and control. Wishing her the best!
P.S. I love all the members of DC3 but, Beyonce-Stans are the worst! They put down just about anyone who isn’t Beyonce.
