Well, Mariah was making sure we understand her legend!!! That was an impressive package set up in that clip. I see she’s claiming to be the best selling female artist (just like Madonna). I just happen to have been comparing a few stats of many of these legendary divas this past weekend and Mariah’s look way more legitimate than Madge’s. I can’t understand Madonna’s exaggerated stats for the life of me (especially if you knew them about 5 years ago). Just saying! Anyway, Mariah’s status is very well earned. I’m not a lamb, but anyone looking at her achievements can only be wowed by them!

I like your title for Janet, but are you giving her that title to define her as a “Dance artist” (literally), or Queen of making “Dance Music” or both?

R.Kelly is the King of R&B and to me, Usher is the king of Urban Pop, along with Aaliyah being the Queen. Even in the 90’s, Usher could chart higher than his rivals (whom was a lil older than him.)And then you have Prince, his name says it all, he probably the ultimate male musician.

That’s what I figured! That title definitely works for Jan well because that’s certainly what stands out about her. I still think she needs equal credit(as Madge) for her Pop contributions too (Jan’s were just as important to Pop Culture, especially while both ladies were in the prime of their careers).
Urban Pop works for Usher somewhat(but I always felt he was a huge contributor to R&B moreso, although he made songs like OMG).
Aaliyah would definitely need something that mentions her innovative style.

The title “Vocal Bible” was given to Brandy by Stacey Barthe. A LOT of singers study Brandy’s vocals, runs and harmonies like they study the bible. Others have given “Full Moon”(album) the title of “R&B vocal bible”. Aretha already has a title, let Brandy have hers. Jeez.

I mean: during TEOM everything was on point – the, clothes, the make up, the photos used for promo… Even the strategy that made Touch My Body #1 was the best — they let the radio audience grow and then released the song on iTunes. Perfect!
Recently many clips have been trashy and we all have to agree with it. Who remembers “Auld Lang Syne – The New Years Anthem” and “I Wanna Know What Love Is”? Who approved those videos?
And what about the corny-as-hell-just-released “Legendary Status Video”? The things in there are great, true history, but the way it was shown, oh God… It was terrible. Bad editing at it’s best!

Funny thing is that I totally agree with you. By 2020 Madge will mysteriously gain another 100 million (with continued gold status sells being added on to her legacy) and somehow top MJ. Although MJ’s been slaying with huge sales since his death. Watch for it! The man was brought down from 1 billion for a reason!
Mariah is in the 200 range with record sales (and have be known to claim 250/260 million). Madonna was in that same range not too long ago, but somehow she’s magically increase her total to 350 million (after albums like American Life, Hard Candy & MDNA in the last 10+ years). No need to say more, Madge is the Queen of illusion and that involves some serious inflation. I have no bias with both ladies, but clearly it’s easy to see that Mariah has outsold Madge numerous times. Her, Whit, Celine are the biggest album sellers (and this was proven with the top selling album list that was posted a while back). Mimi has 18#1’s and Madge 12, so those major things make it baffling as to why Madge is made out to be such a big seller.
@Mariah needs a better team hmmmm I would love to see the real Mariah. The over-the-top drag queen diva act is a little tiresome now. Sure, she’s a legend…but I think a more stripped down persona would resonate well with the public. 🙂

THAT is how she’s at 350+ million records sold.

Colle. was released in 1990, also worldwide , Whitney, Madonna and the Beatles, are the artists with the most albums in the list of best selling albums of all times, each one with 3, only behind MJ who has 5, Madge is also the best selling singles artist only behind the Beatles and Elvis, it’s not the big sales anymore, since she doesn’t sell that much now, is the continuos releases what makes her sales incresed but overall her 300 million records sold hasn’t been updated in like 7 years, so i don’t know what are you complaining.

Madonna’s sales were huge from 1984-1991, they dipped from 1992-1995, then she had a commercial renaissance from 1996-2001 (where she outsold most of her rivals), then dipped again after that…while continuing to flop less hard than the rest of them.
So again, it makes total sense. EROTICA and BEDTIME STORIES wasn’t the sum of Madonna’s 90s work, nor do their sales define the decade for her.

Yes, thank you! And the 2-3 million more is just within the last 5-6 years. From 1998-2003, Madonna was selling more like 5-10 million more than the rest of them in all. Whitney, Mariah, Janet and Celine had huge peaks in the first half of the 90s during Madonna’s down period, and for some reason ROYALKEV thinks that’s defining. He intentionally ignoring that Madonna was bigger than them in the last half of the 80s (and that can be compared to Mariah’s first few years in the 90s) and her late 90s commercial renaissance happened when all of them (barring Celine) were beginning to cool…which narrowed the gap considerably. Since then on average Madonna’s been able to stay a few steps ahead of them sales-wise. Yes, thanks large in part to Madonna’s much stronger worldwide audience. She can “flop” in the US but sell 3-6 million more abroad. Mariah can’t. Whitney couldn’t. Janet for sure can’t. In fact Janet’s sales are the poorest of all, which I think is the real reason for ROYALKEV’s shoulder chip.

People like to ignore the fact that Janet’s sales are lower than the other divas (minus Whitney) because she didn’t release as many products as the other.While Mariah & Madonna were releasing albums, soundtracks, & remix albums every year, Janet was releasing an album every 3-4 years.Those soundtracks & compilations add to their totals to help them get to 200-300 million records sold. They didnt necessarily “sell more”, they released more albums. Take away their extra GH and remix albums and soundtracks and you’ll see Janet’s sales are right on par with them, aside from the fact that she’s horribly undercertified.

All I did was alleviate a Madonna G.H. set to make the point that those 3 albums I named sold more than half Madge’s 90’s discography (regular albums). I didn’t say the GH package didn’t count. Then I also made the point that the other girls also have G.H. albums (which almost came 10 years later down the line). If you want to compare them, you’ll see that Madonna’s come out on top! Happy?
