After bidding farewell to ‘Music of the Sun’ singer Rihanna this year, Universal’s Def Jam has welcomed R&B singer Tamia to its home this month, signing the performer before the release of her brand new studio album.

The label’s signing of the singer puts her on roster which houses R&B/Hip Hop siblings August Alsina & Elijah Blake, the Rap force that is Iggy Azalea and ‘Souled Out’ singer Jhene Aiko.

Tamia’s most recent studio set, 2012’s Beautiful Surprise, was released via her own Capitol/EMI-distributed label Plus One Music Group. The album, her first after a six-year hiatus, debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albumschart. She also garnered two Grammy Award nominations for her work on that album: best R&B song for the title track and best R&B album.

Right now, nobody is doing the Tamia/Deborah C** thing. I hope they come up with the right material, b/c there’s a potential market for her.
I want more of Tamia, but I’m not so sure Def Jam intends to allow Tamia to be the soulful r&b artist she is. I don’t want to see her bending over in some noisy hip-hop collabo with August.
Hmmm… I really doubt it, she genuinely seems like a well rounded individual. Its about the MUSIC. 🙂
She has low key been a decent R&B album seller over the past few years so I hope they give her the exposure she rightfully deserves.
