In the September of 2013 Pop princess Ariana Grande planted a kiss on the Billboard 200’s #1 spot with her debut LP ‘Yours Truly.’
This year, just over 12 months after ‘Truly’s August 30th 2013 unveiling, the singer has celebrated the arrival of her second #1 album, ‘My Everything.’

The album, which was released Aug. 25, sold 169,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In turn, My Everything scores the second-largest sales week for a female pop artist in 2014, after the debut of Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence (182,000).

Very few ppl are going multiplat. So it is not fair to compare sells to albums 10 yrs ago. Anyways ppl who release in November /December tend to sell more so her album would have sold more in its debut week than it did. And should every #1 album be discredited bc it wasn’t released in the 4th quater/ nov or dec?
Take a look at Maroon 5’s album sales projections for their new album out this week: 145-155k. Their last album sold 222k. Now they have a broader market than Ariana – Adult Contemporary AND Pop listeners are their fanbase, AND Adam is on The Voice. You can’t discredit her numbers when her target fanbase is still 21 and under and she has been on the scene for less than a year. She is building her fanbase and she improved upon her last album’s numbers AND singles numbers. What new artist in the past few years has a “Multiplatinum album”? She is selling more than so many people and for her market, she is the top-selling artist. If she would have sold closer to Christmas who knows what her numbers would be. She has her second #1 album, and hats off to her at 21 years old.
Congrats Ariana… Even though those numbers could’ve been in the 225k range at least, 170k isn’t bad especially considering how poorly maintained her image is and the clear lack of direction she has. Maybe is she actually finds a mature yet youthful look/style, that’ll widen her appeal because that dust rag ponytail has got to go. Overall, I think her album is solid, not as strong as Yours Truly, but definitely a solid follow up. I can see My Everything doing at least 650k in the US and maybe 1.5 mil WW

Oh ok, well its her best album vocally. Its a more SOUL/R&B album. With, Gospel/Soul like vocals. The songs to look out for are “If Its Over”, “Can’t Let Go”, “And You Don’t Remember”, “The Wind” & “Till The End Of Time”… Also, “You’re So Cold” the intro is vocal heaven.

Congrats to Ariana! I expected the album to hit the 200k range like most people, but 170k isnt bad at all, especially considering no one buys albums, especially the generation she appeals to. Having hit singles doesnt mean your album will sells, there is literally no correlation these says. Just ask Jason Derulo. That being said, My Everything will no doubt sell better then Yours Truly has and could even go platinum if Ariana continues the promo and does a tour. YT’s promo pretty much ended after the AMAs, it wasn’t consistent after that. My Everything wont have as big as a second week decline either, so people could continue buying as the year goes on. Macklemore sold 78k opening week with Thrift Shop being a hit and theyre platinum today, so who knows. People put too much importance in 1st week sales. Long term matters the most.
Don’t use that comparison tho. Macklemore is an independent act. They didn’t get Ariana’s promo.

There are nothing wrong with these numbers, they good for her. The problem is that she has been hyped by her fans & people promoting her trying to pretend she is one of the top female artists, so people were looking for well over 200k. Most of the better selling female artist’s will be probably be doing 200k-300k but even those are not a lot. Because the reality they are very few female artists sells over 300k in the last few years, You have Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Adele , I cant think any other female artist who have sold over 300k over the last few years. Most female artists sell less than 200k. So these numbers are not bad, the anti-Ariana people will call it a flop, but in my opinion its not.
I also I bet that they are not many albums released in 2014 what have sold over 200k. And the only album I can think of what have sold over 300k in the USA in 2014 is the Coldplay album, I doubt if they are many more or any at all. like I said previous since 2012 started only Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Adele & Madonna have sold over 300k in the 1st week. Look at the list of female artists which could not sell over 300k, Lana Del Rey, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga,Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears & many more this is them releasing albums in 2012, 2013,2014.
