Gwen Stefani is back!

The eclectic singer’s new single ‘Baby Don’t Lie’ – her first solo effort in over eight years – has arrived!

Produced by hit vendors Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder, the anthemic number serves as the lead release from the No Doubt diva’s third studio album – currently due for a December release.

With the song’s accompanying video already shot by acclaimed director Sophie Muller (whose credits include Beyonce and many of Ms. Stefani’s previous visuals), does the track itself deliver? Find out below…

{Updated With VEVO stream}

On her first swing of the bat, Gwen has scored herself a hit!

Is ‘Baby’ groundbreaking? Not particularly. However, it smartly packs enough “Stefani-isms” to pander to the singer’s established audience, yet powerfully matures the sound from her 2004-2007 solo run into something that is both befitting of her age and relevant to today’s radio climate.

Put simply, while the song itself is “good”, it’s the selection of it as a single that is where the true greatness lies. It’ll be intriguing to see if its chart trajectory re-affirms this.

What has Beyonce’s ass got anything to do with making Gwen Stefani’s comeback possible? The delusion.

  2. Dustin October 18, 2014

interesting choice to have Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder executive produce this album. As far as the track? It’s a sure fire radio hit. That being said, I’m not a fan of the track.

Aaliyah has a better voice from the great

  9. Mark111 October 18, 2014

I remember her first album havinh horrible singles. .. until the 3rd single and blew up. Not my cup of tea, but I can see this on the radio.

    • beautifuldisaster89 October 18, 2014

You didn’t like what are you waiting for? I loved that song it was really fun but hollaback girl and bubble pop electric and crash were my jam 🙂

  10. Iconic Cici October 18, 2014

It will flop like fergies single.

    • #OOops Did I say That? October 18, 2014

where is Ciara on the charts? billboard doesn’t even know who and what a Ciara is

  11. S****** Blonde October 18, 2014

I lover her but this is a no, the track is mediocre, i’m surprised by this, it just show that everyone have their bad moments, she’s still a Goddess to me, she is identical to my mother, it’s kind of funny cuz i think Gwen is hot but if i think about my mom, not matter how good looking she is, i say eww, lol.

  12. Barbie’s World October 18, 2014

    It’s a grower, I like it.

    • Future Ciara October 18, 2014

      barbs have low standards

      • BeyRihLiyah October 18, 2014

Low Standards? the c-squad should not talk about low anything when Ciara has low albums sales, she sales her albums for a Low Discounted Price, She has low self esteem,She had a baby by a Low Life, Ciara=Low Standards

  13. Rosie October 18, 2014

LOVE Gwen but I’m not here for this. Also kinda proves Benny Blanco wasn’t the one that made the girl in my avi’s song p0p as I thought.

    • Rosie October 18, 2014

Also it sounds like Ellie Goulding’s “Burn”.

      • Jamie October 18, 2014

That’s exactly what it sounds like. I knew it sounded familiar!

  14. BeyRihLiyah October 18, 2014

its cool but she should have giving us a hollerback girl part 2 (2014 version)

  15. tits mcgee October 18, 2014

It’s enough of a bop, I will support.
The song is a 7 out of 10, for me.
Confused as to why it’s more a
    throwback Shakira record, and
    less future Gwen.

In any case, it could do decent sales
    and airplay. Extremely radio friendly
    song.

  16. LIL’ KIM IS THE G.O.A.T. October 18, 2014

YAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS QUEEN GWEN!!! Slay Flopnika Garbaj’s life!!!!!!! Flopnika Garbaj copies Gwen Stefani just like she copies Queen of Rap Lil’ Kim! RECEIPTS:

  18. DG October 18, 2014

I c she rockin the one eye thang!

  19. ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) October 18, 2014

    Eh…..it’ll probably flop tbh..

  20. Musika October 18, 2014

Not much swag. She should’ve rapped some more like in her old material on L.A.M.B. I was expecting a killer track that could rival the likes of Iggy Azalea & Nicki Minaj

  21. NOLIES October 18, 2014

The song won’t be in my music library, but at least she looks pretty on the cover. With the correct Katy Perry type of connections, she can get it on the radio with huge airplay. That would force us to like it, but as of right now, NO.

    • ENOUGH ONIKA (NEW & IMPROVED) October 18, 2014

LOL!!! No lies detected! Katy literally fedex’s a suitcase full of millions each month for radio play

  22. Lucille October 18, 2014

Lmfao is this her comeback that y’all were so hyped about? Where’s Fergie on the charts? These has beens….

  23. Rihboy October 18, 2014

The beat sounds like a shakira knock off!!!! The studio work is so evident! Extremely generic and almost annoying! Flop.

    • Dem Lessors October 20, 2014

Lol, it sounds like Te Amo off Rated R so you’re saying Rihanna’s generic???

  24. Mimi Carey October 18, 2014

Told y’all this s*** was crap.

  25. eric October 19, 2014

She’s bigger and better than this. I always liked her rock stuff more…similar to Pink but with her own unique flavor.

  26. JOHNVIDAL October 19, 2014

I think she´s trying a similar approach as Fergie. Not a fan of either of them. Both singles definitely remind me of each other.
The thing is, it is probably not worse than her solo material in 2005… but sadly, the business is not just about getting it right with the music (look at how much great music has flopped throughout the years by people who once were very successful), it is also about what´s in, the momentum and the media support. I find it hard to believe these two girls are going to be especially successful now in 2014. At least 7 years have gone by. Gwen already tried it with No Doubt two years ago.
Anyway, music is the important thing. Many legends (not saying that these two are legends of course) keep on releasing music even if almost no one notices. And I applaud and support that. So let them have their run however it turns out to be.

  27. Marie October 19, 2014

Not her ripping off Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” video with that cover. And the song…the song is so bland! Gwen has become so boring since Push and Shove. It’s like she ran out of ideas and it’s devastating! The song goes absolutely nowhere.

  28. crash October 19, 2014

I like it. I could go surf with that.
