The singer/rapper T-Pain has shared his thoughts on Aaliyah’s legacy this week, doing so as he explained how he was able to access the late singer’s vocal and use them on a song he would go on to scrap.

Will you like what he has to say about the ‘Try Again’ singer?

Find out below…

It’s like because she passed, nobody is deserving of being next to her. Nobody’s good enough. Nobody is good enough because she passed. If she was still alive, then everybody would’ve been like, ‘Oh! She’s tryna be Beyoncé!’ If she were still alive right now. But now that she’s passed, it’s like ‘Nobody could be her! Nobody could be her!’ That’s just how I feel. That’s how it goes. And that’s how people are, man. People look for **** to talk about.

Do you agree?

You know I’m going to jump on this right? ..No! Aaliyah is deserving of her title just like everyone in their own right is deserving of their own title, to compare is to say that these artist sound alike and they are copies of one and other, No! Every artist has their own unique creative qualities that they bring to the music industry.. Aaliyah’s music stood out, I feel like the same way I feel for Janelle Monaes music except one isn’t in the spotlight as much as the other.. Not to mention its in her name the highest and most exalted one, if that means anything to go by yall will take several seats and T-pain in the backside can go figure his life out again with his monophonic voice ruining radio.. Aaliyah death was tragic, it his an audience that felt the pain like they had lost their own family members, that’s what Aaliyah represents all the things in life that was positive and deserving of life, she lives on 14 years on with no slowing down. Please in the mean time tell me why T-pain isn’t making his own music, y he picked up Aaliyah track thinking it would bring him some light.. No bro, Shade is all Aaliyah is sending Ur way!

      • Guess March 31, 2015

I understand how Aaliyah fans feel. No one is denying that she was great. Her music was different. Her videos were cool. Her style was unique to her.. But…. This doesn’t only apply to Aaliyah. When people die they are more popular than they would have been if they were alive. It works that way with singers, when you’re a painter, all of a sudden your work is worth more. what tpain said is the truth that Aaliyah fans don’t wanna hear.

    • Glorious Sun March 31, 2015

NOT – if she was alive people would be comparing Beyonce’ to her. She was here first.

      • lilysun April 4, 2015

I’m late to the party, but I just want to make note that when the Original Destiny’s child was just an opening act, I went to see them and they performed “Are you that somebody” did the whole video routine, so..Aaliyah being like beyonce as the years changed, doubt it. Not to mention Aaliyah didn’t sell s*x, she wasn’t in short dresses exposes her body and making naughty faces, she was a tomboy, I highly doubt she would switch over to what beyonce does and beyonce definitely wouldn’t be doing the tomboy thing, they probably would be 2 completely different artist doing difft. Solo beyonce would probably still be pop music and Aaliyah RnB hip-hop, 2 different groups of fans except when it came to the BET awards. Aaliyah and Beyonce would have BOTH been different and pretty and successful, Mathew would have made sure of that and Missy and Timbaland would have had Aaliyah covered in hip-hop. T-pain is a loser for comparing something so different.

NOOOOOOO B****!!! I’m at a lost for words… WOW!!! He is such an idiot! I used to feel sorry for him but no wonder his a-ss fell all the way off! People say no one could be her b/c no one can be anybody else but themselves. Despite what some may think, Aaliyah had a unique voice, sound, and style. I’m not gonna sit here and play fav battles with adolescents but she was truly one of a kind and was on the rise of superstardom like the music scene said. I feel sorry for people who feel intimidated by such a sweet and now DEAD person. This interview and b******* comments about this woman says more about the people who make them than her herself. Aaliyah is considered a martyr and most people can’t take that. SAD!

No Lies detected!! And its no shade! Been saying this for years!!! But most Aaliyah stans are delusional… And MOST only hopped on her bandwagon and music only after her death… Reason why her albums rose in sales after that tragedy…. Im going to keep it cute though, she was a sweet girl.

    • Monica March 31, 2015

It’s been ten years and Ciara still hasn’t put out anything on Aaliyah’s, Paula or Janet’s level. If Aaliyah is overrated what is Ciara.

      • Monica March 31, 2015

Another funny thing is that Ciara was supposed to be a new version of Aaliyah like Rihanna was to Beyonce but still hasn’t used anything Aaliyah taught her. Why is that?

      • Cupid March 31, 2015

as a dancer and over-all entertainer Ciara has surpassed Aaliyah. Musically idk. I love Aaliyah’s music because it’s soothing, catchy and “puts you onto game” that dudes try and play. Nothing really that special or better than what’s been put out by Rnb females today. Honestly if you mix Ciara and Jhene Aiko you’d probably have Aaliyah. Ciara’s music only lacks the needed lyrical content.

      • rosy March 31, 2015

Stfu when A aliyah was alive no one cared about her black people hated on her all day everyday they said she could not sing just like Ciara so now she gone she suppose to be a legend I remember back in that time her voice was considered like Ciara with a few hits she was no Whitney Houston or even a Beyonce black people love u when u dead but Alive they drag u and hate on you

      • metzo March 31, 2015

Lies. Goodies and 12 step were huge.
I’m just gonna give my f***** 2 cents. Yes, to me Aaliyah is overrated.
Yes she had cute songs, but there was nothing exceptional about her. Her voice wasn’t all that, and neither was,her dancing.
The reason Janet and Paula are legends now and deserving of their crowns is because they both excelle in at least one thing: Dancing. And their discographies are live performances are Iconic. Ciara excelles in Dancing, ppl just don’t see how talented she is. Idk why tbh. She’s very underrated.
Some ppl sing their asses of. Some people dance their asses off. Some are blessed to do both.

      • Rory March 31, 2015

No shade, but Aaliyah’s never put out anything on Paula’s or Janet’s level

  3. Mark111 March 31, 2015

How would she try to be Beyonce when she jad a solid full career Before Beyonce a whole 10 years? Aaliyah did everything from singing, dancing, modeling and acting while the other and her no good father were playing musical chairs with DC.
    .
Maybe people are so protective because the poor girl died at such a young age? Did this piece of crap ever thought of that?
    .
And for that fvcking Ciara, you’re angry because Ciara is a freaking flop after album two and year 3 of her career.

    • Monica March 31, 2015

Good point. Aaliyah wasn’t the best artist but people are right to want to protect her legacy. Ciara’s fans need to wonder why her career only lasted three years before it flopped.

      • Cupid March 31, 2015

If Aaliyah were alive she would probably be flopping too. Let’s be real! Fantasy Ride flopped and it was better than anything her label had her do in an attempt to make her the next Aaliyah. Aaliyah’s music was great for its time. I couldn’t see it for her in the NOW!

  4. Mark111 March 31, 2015

I guess she was overrated when the Oscars invited her to perform at the age of 19, still the youngest to do so til this day. Why didn’t Christina Aguilera get an invite? She did a cover for the Mulan soundtrack at age 18 in 1998. It’s because we all knew Aaliyah would die 3 years later overrated.

  5. LB March 31, 2015

Is a T-Pain some sort of new Nokia phone? Who still buys that crap?

  6. Mark111 March 31, 2015

I guess staring in your first role as a lead on a box office hit makes her overrated too. First two (any only films because of her death) as the lead. Beyoncé first film was some mtv trash and Austin Powers 3 as a side role. Britney Spears stared in her first film, so did Mariah, but they both flopped in the box office. Unless you stan for Ross or Houston, have a seat.

    • RCi March 31, 2015

Aaliyah also had a greater music catalogue than Rihanna and a more successful acting career than Rihanna too. Funny how u don’t bring that up…

  7. kelly kelly March 31, 2015

    Hahaha he stated facts though

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

You need to look up the definition of the word facts, because all I read was his opinion. But you stan for a t*****, you been confused.

  8. Mark111 March 31, 2015

How many singer/dancer/actress were there during Aaliyah? Of just Tina Turner and Janet Jackson. So overrated, even tho J.Lo, Beyoncé and others would do so AFTER her death. Overrated.

  9. Stephon. March 31, 2015

Every MAJOR SUPERSTAR/LEGENDARY artist is OVERRATED to some degree. Aaliyah was OVERRATED, due to her death. I remember 2001 very well. She was NOT the biggest star back then. Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears etc… Was FAR more successful & bigger than her.

But, she was a huge star in the Urban community. In fact, her 2001 album only debut @ #2… With only, 187K sold in the first week back then. Which was pretty much a flop. Even after her death, the album still only pushed a lil over 2 mill in the USA. I just think her death pushed her to ICON/LEGEND status.

Her influence on Urban Tomb-Boy fashion was overrated as well. TLC, Xscape, Janet (during the 1993/1994 era) etc… All dressed like men. And, carried themselves in that tomb boy-ish way. She was a decent dancer & had a cute voice. Her music is the best thing about her (to me). And, her personality. She was sweet, EXTREMELY humble & down to earth. Also, her tone of voice (while speaking) relaxes my ear. But, she is OVERRATED like every other major artist…

I’ll just say this… If Beyonce would’ve DIED (thank god she didn’t) after the B Day era… She would’ve been FAR more overrated, than she already is… And, WAY more overrated than Aaliyah (when she died).
    Hope I didn’t offend. BYE!

    • XYZ March 31, 2015

I see no lies. Very well written. Thank you for a not biased comment, which is rare on this blog…

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

There’s a difference from dressing like a slim, s*** tom boy (Aaliyah) and full brown dikes, (the rest), but we been through this, I’m tried.
      .
Usher was just a r&b artist at the same time, in fact, 8701 did the same first week numbers a month later. Putting r&b artist up to pop artist (because Britney and DC’s 3rd album, were pop albums.) Is dumb. My point, Usher would go on out selling and outlasting all his pop male stars that were out in 2001. Aaliyah would jad done the same.
      .
And how was she a flop when she jad a #1 hit a year before she passed? Lol of Beyoncé had of died at age 22, she would barley had DIL on her list and her group. But do we add Backstreet Boys success to Nick Carter’s failed solo? Do with add PCD success to Nicol’s failed solo career? No, so why would we do the same with Beyonce?

    • ronnoc March 31, 2015

Thank you! She is overrated because she never had the chance to let people down. She died before her decline, so people act like the decline would’ve never happened. It’s like if Lady Gaga had died after The Fame/Monster era. She was amazing at that point, so everyone would’ve been devastated and said she was the best, etc.

    • Danny Bey April 1, 2015

The likes of Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson are far from overrated. Whether in life or death, those two literally were the blueprint of their genres and THEE best at what they did. They deserved every single accolade and title they were given. I actually believe they weren’t praised enough bc of their tumultuous private lives. So I have to disagree with you there.

  10. Mark111 March 31, 2015

How many female r&b singers were there before Aaliyah at age 15? Just Janet, who Didn’t have success until age 21 and album 3. Was it Brandy and Monica? Oh wait, they came out AFTER Aaliyah. So would that make Aaliyah the blueprint for the young girls that came after at a young age as Brandy, Monica, Britney Spears, CA, Rihanna, Ciara and DC? Nope, overrated.

    • RihYonce March 31, 2015

Wrong Aaliyah debut album was in 1994 & so was Brandys do your research Hun

  11. CT March 31, 2015

*pulls out reading glasses* Now I know this auto tuned minimal talent fad isn’t coming for anyone… looking like biggie half brother. Where is your album at??? Worry about that with them mildewed dingy as dreads in your head. *puts away reading glasses*

  12. Bey Is Grown March 31, 2015

Lmao, preach on T-Pain,not a fan of your music but you spoke the truth.

  13. blue March 31, 2015

he calls aaliyah overrated by comparing to one of the most overrated artists today?

Aaliyah was popping off before beyonce…so in the ‘if game’ that people love to play, she was leading.

    • Luther V March 31, 2015

LOL not when you stan for Rihanna Aka the most overrated artist in history. Here, have a seat _/

  14. Stephon. March 31, 2015

“There’s a difference from dressing like a slim, s*** tom boy (Aaliyah) and full brown dikes, (the rest), but we been through this, I’m tried.”

So, what you’re telling me is.. THE Janet Jackson looked like a “full blown d***” in this video… rockin’ her Tomb-Boy outfit???…
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK3M9yfTv90

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

Oh don’t I have you. This video came out in August 1994, Aaliyah Back and Forth came Feb 1994. Aaliyah predates Janet with the mid riff, baggy jeans and top. Same with TLC CSC. Like I said, before Aali, girls were dressing like men or dikes, she made it fem and hot. #TryAgain

      • Stephon. March 31, 2015

That’s weak sis. EVERYONE was dressing tomb-boyish/s*** back then. HIP HOP created that. Not Aaliyah.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

He just proved you wrong tho…she brought the s*** Tom boy thing to the forefront whole others were just dressing exactly like their hip hop male counterparts…it’s a difference

  15. Stephon. March 31, 2015

“And how was she a flop when she jad a #1 hit a year before she passed?”

Marky Mark, when in THE hell did I DIRECTLY call Aaliyah a flat out flop? I said —-> “In fact, her 2001 album only debut @ #2… With only, 187K sold in the first week back then. Which was pretty much a flop.”…. I NEVER said Aaliyah was a flop Zaddy!

  16. king March 31, 2015

    aaliyah was here before beyonce.
Musicians Who Have Been Influenced By Aaliyah:
    beyonce
    Rihanna
    ciara
    tinashe
    drake
    chris brown
    timbaland
    missy elliott
    destiny’s child
and that is only the start
and yeah MF you don’t deserve her voice!
    she is a legend!
she paved the way for a lot of today’s musicians!
she started timbaland and missy careers!
    LLOSER!

  17. Stephon. March 31, 2015

“Lol of Beyoncé had of died at age 22, she would barley had DIL on her list and her group. But do we add Backstreet Boys success to Nick Carter’s failed solo? Do with add PCD success to Nicol’s failed solo career? No, so why would we do the same with Beyonce?”
    ————————–
Baby, I was comparing their career’s on the TIME limit of which their ALBUMS (whether group or solo) debut. Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake etc… Are the LEAD & main attraction to those groups. Especially, with Bey & MJ. <— THEY WERE THE GROUP! Stop plain' boy. Beyonce's career OVERALL started in 1998, with the release of THEIR debut album "Destiny's Child" period! If, Bey would've DIED (thank the LORD she didn't) 7-10 years into her career… Like, what happen with Aaliyah (unfortunately). She would've been HIGHLY overrated. Her death would've been BIGGER than Aaliyah's & she would've been praised/hailed on a higher level than Aaliyah (when she died). That's just the truth.
    —————————
Beyonce simply has a BIGGER impact on people than Aaliyah. Even during the DC days… Let’s not act like a FULL R&B album called “The Writings On The Wall” didn’t sell well over 10 million copies. Which was DURING THAT TIME! A bigger album than ALL of Aaliyah’s albums. Also, had BIGGER hits than Aaliyah EVER produced. That’s just the truth!

  18. Carmen March 31, 2015

I agree. She was a cute R&B chick back in the day with some cute music, even then, there were other girls with more impressive careers than hers. Death helped her career and legacy a lot. She was not as innovative and revolutionary as her fans make out. She was a sideline Janet with a hip hop twist. She probably would have ended up like all the other R&B chicks. People say Beyonce would not have existed, but Beyonce was already crossed over to POP audience from Destinys Child, Aaliyah was still stick with R&B fans when it came to her music. And I’m not a Bey stan for Aaliyah stans get in their feelings.

  19. Bey-Minaj March 31, 2015

If I could only just snatch him…

  20. cocobutta March 31, 2015

T-Pain TALK facts you auto tuned buffalo!!

Artists like Aaliyah, Monica, Brandy etc have never been compared to Beyonce because they came out BEFORE HER. It makes NO sense! Aaliyah had her sound, smooth dances & movie career well established by the time Bey came to slay.

A stupid comment to say someone who’s come out before the other that they trying to be who the newer artist is!!

That’s like someone saying Janet Jackson is trying to be Beyonce like WTF !! STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Royalkev March 31, 2015

Ugh! I simply have to agree. I loved Aaliyah! Period! I was so hurt when she died. I think she’s far from overrated, but her abilities as an artist are exaggerated by her stans imo. They seem to want to make her soooo much more superior to today’s artists by magnifying some of the things she brought to the table. For instance, her stans make it seem like she was slaying live (the way Janet would), when that wasn’t the case. Aaliyah is certainly a better artist than Ci (musically), but Ciara does so much more than she ever did on stage! From what I witnessed, it’s not even close… Real talk! Go ahead and minus me! I’m just keeping it all the way honest! Again, I do think Aaliyah was a great artist, very artistic and talented. Also let me make this clear, I actually see her as a baby Janet, but that’s usually when it comes down to her artistry (overall). I don’t want to even get into Bey comparisons because people have come up with so many theories (since Aaliyah’s death) that there’s no undoing what they want to wholeheartedly believe. I will say this because I feel it’s true, I can’t think of many artists versatile enough (from the 90’s) that truly fit in today industry. I swear there’s not many, maybe 10 – MAX! Although there are a handful out that’s undeserving of being underrated now, I’d be willing to bet money that Aaliyah would be still be worthy of being one of the artists that’s on top today! She was that kind of star!

  22. BeyRihLiyah March 31, 2015

August 16th 2001 (Slant Magazine review the Aaliyah ALbum) 4 out 5 stars

    —————————————————–http://www.slantmagazine.com/music/review/aaliyah-aaliyah

  23. Benji March 31, 2015

His fundamental point is true. I don’t like the way her fans are always putting girls (Beyonce, Rihanna etc) who came and made real impact on the industry down to hold Aaliyah up. They are delusional when most of Aaliyah’s career was based on Janet Jackson.

  24. #JACKIE March 31, 2015

Her stans act like she was the best thing since sliced bread. Beyonce > Aaliyah

    • #JACKIE March 31, 2015

      No one cares sis stfu

      • BeyRihLiyah March 31, 2015

b****** choke hard on a dicckkkk

  25. BeyRihLiyah March 31, 2015

Aaliyah made another maxim list on may 1,2001 this time at number 14 (the list is out of 100)

  26. Luther V March 31, 2015

OOP, didn’t I say this back in that Rihanna post. Aaliyah was just a beautiful girl with slow motion dance moves and a paper thin voice, she was pretty much basic.

  27. Beygency March 31, 2015

He told no lies I bet Aaliyah wouldn’t be regarded as an icon or legend if she was still alive she would probably be on her fifth flop album and resort to being a cast member on one of those tacky reality shows

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

She was already in her 3rd album when she died she would be way further along on albums if she was alive and she was a movie star in the making #keepup

  28. let’s be real March 31, 2015

    He is right

  29. Mark111 March 31, 2015

BeyRihLiyah forever clocked the haters. Most of yall are 19, so wtf do you know? Lol

    • Yazmine March 31, 2015

Young people can still recognize legends and icons. You don’t have to be old enough in the era that they slayed. No one questions Mariah, Janet and Mary J Bliges status. Because if Aaliyah was such an authentic legend, we would not be having this debate. The fact her career does not stand out enough to a younger generation is also a reason why she’s overrated.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

People from this generation discredit Janet all day when you compare her to her peers, the same with Mary just look down the post and you’ll see someone mentioning Toni still being better than Mary…Mariah was a bigger act and star than Aaliyah I have never heard someone say otherwise.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

It is an ongoing debate about whether Aaliyah is legendary because of her death or her career. It’s not with Janet or Mary. People troll and discredit everyone out of ignorance but it’s not to the standard of Aaliyah.

  30. Rihanna Lately March 31, 2015

Its true she never even had a big monster Hit Like No Scrubs/ Waterfalls or Say My Name/Crazy In Love or even Umbrella. She was overrated indeed, if she didn’t die no one would Care about her. Brandy, Britney, DC4 were all bigger than her.

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Try Again was a big hit and broke records as well as are you that somebody.

  31. HONEY B March 31, 2015

AALIYAH HAD HITS …TRY AGAIN WAS A BIG HIT FOR HER #1 ON BILLBOARD WIT ONLY RADIO PLAY…SO DONT DWN PLAY HER MUSIC…

  32. MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

Can we be honest here? How can we compare Aaliyah to Beyonce when Aaliyah’s direct competition was ALWAYS Brandy and Monica? They all came out within 6 months of each other in 1994 and 95. Of the 3, Aaliyah was and still is the least successful. Brandy BY FAR was the superior talent. Brandy had bigger records and sold more albums. Brandy headlined and sold out tours, had endorsements, starred in MULTIPLE television and film roles and was highly respected for her vocal ability. Aaliyah was never on this level.

So now that she’s dead, we’re going to pretend she would have been Beyonce’s rival? Give me a break!

If Aaliyah is legend, then Brandy should be saying BOW DOWN B****** because she shitted on Aaliyah’s career.

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

Brandy is nothing more than a t*** icon, she had NO success after the age of 20 and after album #2. No one even play her songs because they’re so dated. I respect her, but Aaliyah was ahead of the game, not just them. They dropped their 2nd album in 98, Aaliyah dropped her and already finished her era in 96 to 97. Aaliyah set the standard, that’s the reason why the other two been lost after their 3rd album and tried to grab Tim and Missy, but failed.

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

If Brandy is just a t*** icon then what does that make Aaliyah? U do know they were the same age right?

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Aaliyah had success in her her adulthood the others didn’t that is what makes them t*** icons while she was on her way to just being an icon…there is a reason why neither of them have surpassed her 1st week sales

      • Mark111 March 31, 2015

Aaliyah had a film career, soundtracks, a #1 hit and a 2X platinum on her 20s. Her career was rising, Brandy was done the moment she lied about being married and had a kid. She never was a lead actress outside of tv films. If you want to give Brandy credit for paving the way for young singers with a hit tv show, (the Miley, Ravens, Salena and whom ever), fine, I agree. But her and Aaliyah were never in the same lane outside of their age. Tv actress vs Hollywood actress.

      • Paulo March 31, 2015

Monica, a t*** icon? not when she’s still having #1 hits on Urban radio and selling better on first week nowadays

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

Wasn’t Aaliyah 22 when she died? Success into her adulthood? GTFOH!

Let’s talk about Brandy’s success past the age of 19 since that’s all u got…

Won her first Grammy at the age of 20

Honored by Stellar for Outstanding Career Achievement at 20

Was recognized as one of the top 100 selling recording artists of ALL TIME at 21 by the RIAA

Released her 3rd album at 23 which debuted at #1 on the r&b albums chart with 156k sold in the first week AND was certified PLATINUM 4 weeks later

Broke the AOL streaming record for most times a song was played within 48 hours of release (a record previously held by Britney Spears)

Released her 4th album at 25 which sold 130k first week and was certified GOLD 4 weeks later

I could go on including her upcoming starring role on Broadway but u get the point

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Brands 4th album sold 103k it’s 1st week idk where you pulled that number from.

You also proved my point because her 1st week sales for Full Moon were lesser than Aaliyah’s last album

Aaliyah had a more successful movie career than Brandy and that was just the beginning.

She also was a muse to Givenchy a heavyweight in fashion.

She was the youngest female to perform at the Oscars

She broke records with Try Again.

Are you that somebody is always listed in the top 10 of songs of the 90s ahead of the boy is mine

Her One in A Million album is in rolling Stones greatest albums of all time while Brandy isn’t on the list.

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

Everything that you continue to mention is based on opinion and not fact. It doesn’t matter what number she was on VH1’s video countdown of the 90’s or how many dresses someone sketched in her image or how old she was when she performed at the family reunion, Disney world or the Oscars. The fact is her record sales are dismal compared to her peers and she is glorified based on her potential and not what she actually accomplished.

Sure Try Again broke a record but so did The Boy Is Mine as the best selling duet of all time. Let it go!

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Are you stupid, slow, retarded or all of the above?

It’s a fact she was the youngest female to perform at the Oscars

It’s a fact she was the 1st t*** star to hit platinum.

It’s a fact her her album sales are better than Monicas even to this day while Brandy only has sold 400k more.

It’s a fact her soundtrack singles broke records and she had lead roles in her films that went to theatres.

it’s a fact and common knowledge that she helped shape the sound of the late 90s.

It’s a fact that her transition into the 00’s was better than the other 2.

It’s a fact that her album is all the list of greatest albums

It’s a fact she was a muse to Givenchy.

The only think that was an opinion in my post was her having a better movie career but the fact that up until her death she had more movies in theatres than Brandy tells me she was better. She had Hollywood’s biggest director praising her acting abilities.

  33. Paulo March 31, 2015

YEEEEEEESSSSS @ the overload of receipts from BeyRihLiyah. now what? dust yourself off and try again with that b*******. everyone gets “overrated” after their passing on the Western world, famous or not. Especially when it so unfortunately happens on their prime, which happened to Aaaliyah.

  34. Paulo March 31, 2015

and the fact T-Pain of all people feel like he gets to say something… HAAAA! anyone who comes for Aaliyah’s vocals is just attesting they have no artistic sensibility. you don’t need a “big voice” to craft beautiful music when you know how to use it. Aaliyah’s tone and its mixture of sweetness and dark strength are still unmatched and her agility jumping from her excellent falsetto to her bottom notes in a flash is also technically great. it’s so sad that Pop music and standom especially will gravitate towards “octaves” and “range” when half of these singers praised for having range sound like dying cats on half their alleged tessituras.

  35. Mark111 March 31, 2015

I keep seeing if, if if. We don’t live in a what if world. She did more in her 7 year career (with a 5 year break might I add) than most on their 10th year. But only threaten fan base fear the r&b princess, I don’t see Janet, Mariah, TLC, Rihanna, or MJB fans dissing her, only DC and Beyonce stans. Lol And the Ciara stan, but they hate everyone because their fave is a flop. #OhWell

    • Yazmine March 31, 2015

Because Aaliyah fans specifically pick on Beyonce. I see it all over Youtube. They are intimidated because Beyonce became everything they wanted Aaliyah to be. Instead of dealing with the fact we will never know, they discredit Beyonce as talent and say dumb s*** like ‘If Aaliyah was alive, Beyonce would not be successful’

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

That is only because Beyoncé fans always try to discredit every black female as if Beyoncé can be the only successful one…there is a reason why her fans get into it with every female artist fanbase and why they are under every female artist videos on YouTube talking about Beyoncé and discrediting other artist.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

No boo. Beyonce fans are defensive because she has been getting mad hate since DC drama. Everyone always wants an opinion on Beyonce, she gets a LOT of hate from the black community as well as love. So it swings both ways. There’s no happy medium. And Beyonce fans arguments with other artists have stans do not have anything do with Aaliyah. Beyonce fans ain’t bothered by her when she’s dead no shade? No ones checking for her. This beef came from bitter Aaliyah fans first. All over youtube it’s ‘see this is why Aaliyah slays Beyonce, blah blah blah’ And then wonder why Beyonce fans attack? Same goes for Keri and Keyshia. They all want to talk but can’t face the consequences.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

See you just did it now tryna discredit her by saying no one’s checking for her when that is furthest from the truth. 13 years later almost 14 she is still at likes about regularly, her movie caused mass hysteria and was the 2nd highest rated program of all last year and music executives are still modeling these up coming girls after her…so yes people are still checking for her and it’s comments like that which make the hive look bad and has every female fanbase giving them a side eye…so your trying to tell me all the other fanbases are wrong and the Holy hive are in the right? # please

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

        *talked about

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

I’m speaking in general. She is DEAD. She’s not competition. That’s what I meant. Beyonce fans have no reason to be worried about her success. You can’t deny that Aaliyah fans stay with Beyonces name at the tip of their tongues because she’s vey much alive and kicking. Beyonce fans don’t, they save that for Rihanna Navy.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

The people who throw Aaliyah potential greatness at Beyoncé are the same 1s who throw Taylor’s Swifts,Adele, Mariah, Britney and others album sales against her those are just haters who look for anything from ANY female artist and use it against Beyoncé..just like you stated most bey fans don’t talk about her most Aaliyah fans don’t talk about Bey they stick to the era that Aaliyah was alive in and listen and discuss those times.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

I’m just stating what I read, I don’t know who is a genuine fan and who isn’t because I don’t know them individually. And generally speaking, people who claim to be fans of Aaliyah have a habit of doing that.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Just like Beyoncé fans have a general habit of trying to knock other chick’s careers to big up hers…like I said before it isn’t a coincidence that her fanbase doesn’t mesh well with any other female fanbase

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

And like I said. That aint why Bey fans are here more than any other stans. Its because Aaliyah fans are always coming for Bey more than any other artist.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Bey fans are always in other female artist video comments or blog post not just Aaliyah’s so that voids your argument and again Bey fans come for everybody as well as Aaliyah so don’t be shocked when they come back in defense.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

We’re not talking about any other female though. We’re talking specifically about Aaliyah and Beyonce fans. And you still have not denied what I’m saying is true with regards to marks comment

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

And also, Beyonce was specifically mentioned in T Pains comment.

  36. Rome March 31, 2015

I love Aaliyah, but facts are facts, before she died her third album sold 62,000 in the first week. Come on that says it all, after she died it sold 306,000 within the week following her untimely death. I honestly feel if she was still with us, she would be in the same boat as Monica, brandy, and Mya are today. Even though they are all talented none of them are as popular in today’s climate as they were in the 90s. It’s bad enough her Monica and mya could never reach the heights brandy did in the 90s. Do you actually believe she would be able to compete with the Beyoncé and Rihanna of today’s generation?

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

I stopoed at the first sentence, her 3rd album did 187 to 190k in the first week and was already gold the week before she passed being out for 4 weeks. So I won’t even bother with your novel. Lol, “all facts?”

    • Paulo March 31, 2015

this doesn’t even make sense. While Brandy was slaying albums, Monica was keeping the Hot 100 and Hot R&B songs straight after The Boy Is Mine. as a matter of fact, Monica was still going strong with Still Standing and that was 2011 – I’m pretty sure Rihanna’s album that came out that year sold near its six-figure numbers. Aaliyah’s movie career was blossoming which would definitely extend her lead as a sales music artist. Mya is cute and such a nice lady but she was never on their league.

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

The others have already proved your post to be filled with lies and fallacies but I’ll just add that her album sold 330k units the week after she died not 306k

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

        *330k in 1 week

  37. MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

    Reasons why Aaliyah is overrated:

    1. None of Aaliyah’s albums sold more than 2 million copies before her death

    2. At the time of her death, her latest album, Aaliyah, was struggling and sliding down the charts FAST

    3. Brandy and Monica (who both came out less than a year after Aaliyah) were bigger artists with way more credentials and success

    4. Aaliyah’s biggest singles were from soundtracks and not any of her albums

    5. Aaliyah had very few accolades and awards prior to her death because her music and success was often overshadowed by her female rivals

    6. Aaliyah had potential to be a great artist but so does every artist with a good buzz. That doesn’t mean it will be so.

    7. If we compare the first seven years of Aaliyah’s career (1994-2001) to the first seven years of Beyonce’s career (2003-2010) you will see there is no comparison. Beyonce wins in every category.

    • Truth B Told March 31, 2015

You must be a young ignorant fool to believe what you are saying please check your facts your incorrect. What she was able to do in 22 years is unmatched to today’s music. As for Beyonce, Beyonce has heavily endorsed by pepsi, H&m, starbucks, Walmart, the list goes on. those companies listed are responsible for her record sales of her last album a surprise album bought by big corporations who endorse you all from the rules being changed by JayZ and them allowing big buisness to buy bulk of albums.. #ghostsales #notrealart #notalent #shepaidforhernameandfame

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

If Aaliyah was so great then why didn’t she get endorsements from all those companies? They did exist back then right?

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

1.That’s a lie One in a Million sold 3 million copies before her death
      2. That’s a lie her album was gold the week before her death and became her fastest album to do so.

      3. Brandy was bigger until the 00s she couldn’t transition into adulthood Aaliyah did and Monica was never bigger because Aaliyah’s albums always sold more.

      4. They were her singles tho not features

      5. Lies again she was the 1st t*** star to have a platinum album, the youngest female to perform at the Oscars, and is seen as the catalyst for the new wave of R&B in the late 90s…sounds like great accolades to me

      6. If she had the buzz she had early in her career doing nothing outside of music what makes you think she would have failed with a booming movie career and a emergence in fashion.

      7. No a better comparison would be if we take away Beyoncé’s accomplishments after 22 whose career would look impressive and sorry to say Beyoncé would not have much of a legacy as a solo artist and DIL wouldn’t be a hit album because Crazy in Love was flopping until she performed it at the MTV awards(which is what Aaliyah was gonna do for WNAR but she died).

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

Is that all u got? Actually One In A Million went triple platinum AFTER her death.

There is no awards given for “being a catalyst for a new sound”

Stop talking about what could’ve and would’ve happened. Let’s talk about what did happen.

Btw, Brandy continued to sell Platinum and Gold up til 2004. Get your facts right.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

No.. One in a Million hit 3x platinum before her death Age ain’t nothing but a number hit 3x platinum after she died so get your facts straight Brandy had a platinum album and a gold album but Aaliyah’s album went multi platinum and sold over 12 mill ww so like I said she had a better career ahead of her.

you brought up what ifs when you mentioned Beyoncé and I countered it by saying her career wouldn’t be what it has become had she died or stop making music at the age of 22.

      • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

Kid you clearly weren’t around or are just too young to remember anything about Aaliyah’s career BEFORE she died. I have worked for both Billboard and Sony so when it comes to music, I know what I’m talking about. Unfortunately, Aaliyah just doesn’t measure up.

And btw, Brandy’s first 2 albums alone sold 20 million copies. And here’s another record for you…Monica is the youngest artist to have her first 2 singles hit #1 on the Billboard charts. Brandy was slightly older. Does that record alone make Monica a legend too?

Oh and…Aaliyah was not the first t*** to go platinum. Have u never heard of Tiffany or Debbie Gibson? Hell, Shanice and Tracie Spencer? I bet u have no idea who they are do u rookie?

  38. ENOUGH ONIKA March 31, 2015

Very very true. Sorry but I’m not a band wagoner to act like Aaliyah was the BEST vocalist or dancer in entertainment. Yes she had a lot of talent and was pretty, but there are a lot of great and even better talent that are out today. No one can be her as she was a unique individual, as is everyone on this earth…

    • Truth B Told March 31, 2015

Sorry but your incorrect. Autotune is what you hear now. Not an actual voice. Know the difference. Know the difference between an artist who has it! And an artist who pays and gets endorsed and tricks the public into believing she or he has it.

      • ENOUGH ONIKA March 31, 2015

Making generalized statements like “everyone” used autotune and Aaliyah was pure vocals is a pathetic example of trying to prove your point. Your clearly an Aaliyah Stan and I can sense taking with you about her versus other talent in the industry will be pointless. Continue to believe she was the greatest thing to ever walk earth and I’ll continue enjoy the tremendous talent that still live today…

  39. Arianator Barb March 31, 2015

Future took t pain spot, and his music’s better too so t pain can sit down

    • ENOUGH ONIKA March 31, 2015

Future’s predator a*s is overrated too so kick rocks with open toes boo. But wait, your screen name….it all makes sense… :/

  40. SLAYRIAH CAREY (TOUR DE FORCE) March 31, 2015

Nothing against her but I completely agree with T-pain. She is beyond overrated imo. Tragic death but people are trying too hard to make her out as some legend. I also hate the “If Aaliyah were still alive Beyoncé would be a flop” comments because that couldn’t be further from the truth.

  41. Brian310 March 31, 2015

I think people are looking too hard into the fact the Brandy did so well at the beginning but here are some examples of how starting off big doesn’t mean your career will outlast your peers.

Toni Braxton started off bigger than MJB but Mary’s outlasted her because she was consistent and had grew in her career by establishing a die hard fan base.

Ciara started off bigger than Rihanna but Rihanna progressed in her career while Ciara regressed.

Britney was 10x bigger than Pink but which 1 out of the 2 is still getting #1s and having tour success as well as platinum albums.

Alicia was bigger than Beyoncé but overtime Alicia faded while Bey continued to elevate her game.

Usher overshadowed Justin in the beginning but after Futuresex Justin became the top dog while Usher slowly but surely fell off.

Lady Gaga was bigger than Katy during the beginning of their careers but look now after their 3rd albums and Katy has surpassed her.

Just because Brandy dominated as a t*** doesn’t mean Aaliyah wouldn’t have outlasted all you need is to look at their career in the 00’s, Aaliyah has been dead for going on almost 14 years and that shirt span of her life from 00-01 is still better than what Monica and Brady have done through their adult life…she was destined to be a star, her swag on stage was 1 of a kind just like her fashion and voice(which live she showcased her deep rich sultry voice) . And no Ciara wasn’t a better performer because it’s more than just dancing on stage you have to get the audience engaged into your show and she did a great job at that while Ciara dances really well but you don’t see her incorporate her audience at all

    • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

But the fact is Aaliyah is dead. Anything beyond that is speculation. Please have a seat!

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Wth are you talking about…I gave examples of artist who had peers do bigger numbers but eventually overcoming them which means just because Brandy started off bigger doesn’t mean Aaliyah would have remained under her and her constant progression from era to era shows that.

    • Paulo March 31, 2015

what? I mean… I get what you’re trying to say but all those comparisons are just wrong because 1 – they keep reigniting unexistent rivalries and 2 – it’s a matter of perspective. MJB is doing as “””good””” as Toni nowadays with album sales and she was never the worldwide phenomenom that Toni was during the height of her career. Lady GaGa had ONE underperformance and suddenly she’s beneath Kantsing Pretty when this ho’s albums stay collecting dust on the bargain bin and GaGa has sold at least twice her numbers worldwide? and finally… Brandy and Monica both had great successes with Full Moon and After The Storm, their first ‘adulthood’ albums. Afrodisiac was showered with praised just like Aaliyah’s self-titled. and Monica still did six figures first week with Still Standing. stop pitting the 90s chicks against one another!

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

But MJB through out the 00’s did better and was more acclaimed than Toni and she has had a bigger influence in music.

Lady Gaga didn’t just drop in album sales her touring was cut in half and her singles impact dropped she regressed in almost every category while Katy has either gotten better or stayed consistent in those same categories.

they did have success with those albums because they hit platinum but I find it ridiculous that some people keep saying Aaliyah’s album was flopping when she was gold a month into her album campaign with only 2 performances 1 the release week and 1 her death week and a under performing single that she was booked to perform at the MTV awards. That album could have sold more than what it did had she not passed and judging by the sound she was going for her next album was going to contain more rock and house music…she was more than an R&B girl.

    • Mark111 March 31, 2015

Great comment. Some careers launches off and crashes, others slowly climb and make a home on the top.

    • RoyalKev March 31, 2015

I have to say that you’ve made some really great points and presented the strongest case I’ve seen yet to support an argument regarding Aaliyah’s potential. Aaliyah showed a lot of promise, that much is true! There’s no doubt in mind that she’d deliver great material (if she was still here), but today’s music scene is way more complicated than ever. There’s too many politics and there’s no guarantee that she’d earn all the things great artists deserve.

You’ve made some strong comparisons, but it’s not quite painting the entire picture accurately. Artists that have hung around longer than others aren’t necessarily “bigger” than their rivals (that have already peaked after finding greater success). Each case is different. Btw, if an artist slayed for 10 years or more (Usher) and then slowed down, I’d think that’s totally understandable. It’s not like the height of their career lasted for 2/3 years, which makes you question if it was all a fluke(Cyndi Lauper/Alanis/Norah Jones).

Justin vs Usher could very well be an ongoing debate. Ush has 4 #1 albums, 3 multi-platinum (1 diamond)/ 2 platinum, 9 #1’s (Hot 100) to JT’s 3 #1 albums (2 multi-platinum). Their biggest smash hits aren’t nearly on the same level worldwide (‘Yeah’ >>>> ‘S*** Back’).

Same can be said with Toni vs Mary

Toni has two 8 million selling albums back to back! MJB reached about half of that at her peak (Share My World, 4 million+), both albums dropped in the 90’s!
Biggest worldwide smash hits (Unbreak My heart >>> Family Affair). Mary does have 6 multi-platinum albums though, which is 3 more than Toni (but both sold near 50+ million records). One’s sprinting to the finish line, while the other is crawling.

Same with Gaga and Katy … Gaga slay her in the album sales department. Katy does rival her hits though, their neck and neck that way (although she has more #1’s).

Britney vs Pink is the closest race. Britney was huge, but for only 2 years during her career (’99 – ’01). Still Pink wasn’t anywhere near that level for most of her career. They came out around the same time, but Pink always sold MILLIONS less than Brit. ‘Baby One More Time’ ran circles around Pink’s biggest hits (‘So What’/ ‘Just Give Me a Reason’). Still Pink’s career has more legs than Britney’s. In 2015, The Truth About Love 2mil (US) >>> Britney Jean (less than 300K).

      It’s never black and white.

  42. Mark111 March 31, 2015

“Aaliyah (the album)is Control, Velvet Rope and Jagged Little Pill all rolled into one. It’s the album Janet should have made with All for You, the manifesto that Beyonce thought she was penning with Survivor.” Roliingstone

    • MUSICHEAD March 31, 2015

One In A Million was and still is Aaliyah’s best album regardless of what some 45 year old white column writer has to say.

      • Paulo March 31, 2015

I beg to differ. One In A Million is her most memorable era because of the flawfree singles and promo and videos but (and I know this personal opinion of mine is unpopular with fellow Aaliyah fans) it’s not as hard-hitting and crafty as Aaliyah and yet it is not as concise as Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number. it’s her best era in the public eye but sonically it’s her weakest.

      • Mark111 March 31, 2015

I feel Age is her weakest, or atleast the least her. Million was her most successful and forward work, but Aaliyah is so cutting edge and different, it really doesn’t have a date, pretty timeless and to this day haven’t been an album like it.

  43. ENOUGH ONIKA March 31, 2015

Plus, let’s like not act like these f*gs on social media wouldn’t be roasting Aaliyah today if she was still alive and doing music. She’d probably sell the same (or slightly more) than Brandy and Yall would be yelling flop..

    • Paulo March 31, 2015

and? people will still roast her to this day, which just shows that classless people will do anything to show their ass, regardless of Aaliyah. why are you trying to come for standom’s shadyness when your username is basically a pressed statement against Nicki Minaj?

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Everybody gets talked about on social media so I don’t get where that has anything to do with her being under or on the same level as Brandy…Beyoncé, Rihanna and others get roasted on social media does that put them on the level of Brandy?

      • ENOUGH ONIKA March 31, 2015

I said that because we have people who think Aaliyah would be top female if alive today, which I don’t see given all the 90’s R&B artists are touring back catalog minus Beyoncé…

  44. Molly March 31, 2015

She’s beyond overrated its very simple.

  45. Molly March 31, 2015

Thank you Tpain for speaking the truth! I having nothing against Aaliyah but she’s nobodies legend or icon.

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Sorry to break it you but she is and you’ll just have to deal with it.

  46. Yazmine March 31, 2015

Truth! Shes also local. No ones saying shes not talented or didn’t have good music. But her fans and Beyonce haters hype her up into something she wasn’t.

  47. Yazmine March 31, 2015

Crazy In Love slayed Aaliyahs entire career.

    • waterfalls March 31, 2015

To me , aaliyah has better discography if we compare the first 3 solo of beyonce and aaliyah.
I’m talking about the whole album the whole era, the artistry not the sales with lyrics, theme, fashion, innovative sound , videos and dances moves.
beyonce had a iconic song but she started to do cohesive, quality album with 4 & beyoncé because before she would hits, singles and success.the target was a large audience , pop white audience.
Beyonce is better vocalist , better performer and better marketer. but Aaliyah as artist in global is more interesting IMO , she’s like janet jackson in her prime.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

I really don’t care because that’s all a matter of opinion. I’m talking about the facts. Beyonce was way bigger than Aaliyah both in DC and solo. And when Crazy In Love dropped, that was the end. Ask Ashanti.

    • waterfalls March 31, 2015

OK but It does not prevent aaliyah’s legacy and influence. aaliyah was already dead when crazy in love come out..

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

And she already had multiple albums and not one produced a hit as big as that. Which was Beyonce second solo song.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

But Try Again was a huge hit for her and established a bill board record. And Are toy that somebody is heavily regarded as 1 of the top 10 hits of the 90s era.

      • Alex March 31, 2015

Crazy in love was the #1 song of the decade! Case closed! Bey would slaughter Aliyah

    • Brian310 March 31, 2015

Which dropped after Aaliyah died who k own what songs Aaliyah would have done had she stayed alive so your opinion about that song doing better doesn’t matter since it was after her death.

We don’t know. That’s why I’m only talking about the career she had when she was alive. Which didn’t produce a hit as big as that.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

But that isn’t a fair comparison seeing as how that track came out after she died. She was only active for 7 years I think you all forget that when comparing her to others.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

7 years is plenty of time to produce a big hit.

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

As I mentioned before she created big hits I mean you haters are always saying how her soundtrack work was big and how come her regular tracks weren’t…anytime you establish a billboard record than you have a major hit on your hands.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

And NONE were as big as Crazy In Love. Just deal with facts!

      • Brian310 March 31, 2015

And she had big hits which you tried to dispute so you will deal with that…Crazy in live wasn’t as big as Baby One More Time or Beautiful that doesn’t make Beyoncé less of an artist.

      • Yazmine March 31, 2015

But where did I say she was less of an artist?

  48. waterfalls March 31, 2015

anyway, we don’t know. which sound would have done timbaland if aaliyah was alive?

  49. Bam Bam March 31, 2015

I think Aaliyah was moving away from music before her death. She had a slew of movies lined up and I think wewould have more Aaliyahmovies than albums if she were still here.
    The Matrix
    Sparkle
    Honey
    Charlie’s Angels
    Ect.

  50. #TeamTinashe Stan (“All Hands On Deck” Music Video Is Coming Out Soon) March 31, 2015

Trash Pain needs to hold a seat.

I’m like the biggest Aaliyah fan and even I know sometimes there is a misconception by her fans that isn’t being translated properly. Let me say this, Aaliyah was NEVER on the level of Janet, Madonna, Mariah Carey or whoever was a major problem in the 90’s but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t anything special.
Now a lot of people compare her vocals to Ciara’s and I never understood that. Aaliyah had an Angelic voice and she knew how to use it and made you feel something new back in the 90’s when singers were being told to sing powerfully. Her fans put her up on a high pedestal for the fact that she was an innovator and had so much potential to groom herself in becoming bigger and with her last album she truly defined that.
And we ain’t going to make it seem just because she didn’t sing powerfully (because she wanted to sound different) that doesn’t mean she didn’t have a great voice that didn’t make people feel anything, thats like saying Sade isn’t a great singer.
Listen to: Man Undercover, Rock The Boat, More Than A Woman, Miss You, Heartbroken and you’ll hear magic!

So what Aaliyah didn’t have a powerful voice, that’s no need to discredit her. Many of you Love Missy Elliott, yet pretend there wasn’t a time nobody was checking for her or Tim yet baby girl help get them on the map. When Drake released Enough Said that proved to me baby girl voice is still One in a million, when we have (Ciara, Tinesha, Jhene, ect) imitate her sound (which Aaliyah’s is still superior and more beautifully haunting than theirs). And don’t get me wrong I do hate with the Aaliyah and Beyonce argument. We should love and support both women. Like hell if Janet and Madonna, Whitney and Mariah, Brandy and Monica, MJ and Prince, Usher and JT, J and 1Dicretion, Chris B and Jason D, Riri and Bey, and Kim and Nicki can all coexist without the need of hate. It should be only about the music not sells and awards. The music is what matters the most, there are many legends and underrated artists who were not that successful yet their music is still being played after 50 years of 40 years or 20 or 10 and have been sampled, homaged, or still listened to. That alone should not discredit anyone who has made a mark on the industry.
Top of that Beyonce admired Aaliyah so does Rihanna and Ciara, to see each fanbase bash a deceased person is just sickening.

Watch “Whitney Houston compliments Aaliyah.” on YouTube

Aaliyah may not had a powerful voice but Whitney loved it! And wanted her to be Sparkle FACTS. I would’ve loved if both of them made a song together before baby girls death. Btw let’s not forget Janet was down for a collboration.

  53. Tyler Makaveli March 31, 2015

If she couldn’t even out sell the likes of Brandy, Monica, Janet, Toni, or Lauren when she was alive… what honestly makes you think that she could have been able to compete with the likes of Beyonce?

She’d probably be flopping like the rest of her peers from the 90’s and would be compared to Beyonce just as much as the next b****. No shade, just the truth.

  54. Kitty Puurrzz March 31, 2015

If Aaliyah was alive shed be on the same level as Brandy & Monica… T-Pain is right.

  55. martin miller March 31, 2015

Aaliyah fans never really come for Beyonce. Im BEYHIVE. Those people are actually Rihanna Navy with fake profiles. Rihanna navy hates Aaliyah fans because Aaliyah fans tell the truth about how Rihanna stole Aaliyah’s look, persona, style, and sound. And Rihanna brags about being illuminati and Unapologetic about it all. Rihanna will probably be next 😉

  56. martin miller March 31, 2015

Out of ALLL of the girls in the 90’s Michael Jackson spoke on Aaliyah. T-pain you’re a flop.

    • MUSICHEAD April 1, 2015

And the only one he actually worked with was Brandy

  57. Blue Ivy Rodriguez March 31, 2015

Woah.. Beyonce is talented and so is Aliayah. Though Aliayah was the it girl that would have been loved by everyone, she is dead but she is still an inspiration and it’s not fair to discredit her just because Beyonce has surpassed her. I say let the fans of her protect her legacy and impact on music. It’s only fair

  58. Somebody watching over you boy March 31, 2015

    Wow he could be right

  59. Danny Bey April 1, 2015

Now I love me some Aaliyah. Always have. But if she’s considered a legend, then so is Brandy. I actually think that if the roles were switched and it was Brandy that passed at a young age, they’d just be in the same place. Aaliyah would be struggling musically while turning to acting for coint and Brandy would be the fallen “icon”. Plus I believe Brandy had much more of a cultural impact during her younger days than Aaliyah, not to take away from Aaliyah’s legacy tho.

    • MUSICHEAD April 1, 2015

      You are absolutely right!

  60. DaTroof88 April 1, 2015

Ha, I’m dying at yal Aaliyah overrated…as a matter of fact by SOME of these comments she was very UNDERRATED. As far as the brandy and monica comparison Aaliyah came out FIRST, went platinum FIRST showing record labels TEENS could be taken seriously. Brandys own words in 95 were that Aaliyah had been one of the main reasons she knew she could have a music career when she saw Aaliyah’s succees again at a time WHEN RECORD LABELS HAD NO FAITH IN T*** ARTISTS. Oh and as far sales go brandy and monicas first two album were EXTREMELY OVERSHIPPED, in ACTUAL SALES they all pretty much sold the same amount with brandy being a little ahead with their second albums. But MUSICALLY while all ladies did the damn thing OIAM was a GROUNDBREAKING/GAMECHANGING ALBUM monica and brandy only had a groundbreaking SINGLE and it was TOGETHER. Also to mention when 2000-2001 xane around we all saw who the FRONTRUNNER was album everybody keep saying was flopping had already (with no huge single) sold over 1.2 million ww B4 her death (6-7 WEEKS) as confirmed by her label, who was flopping? Not Aaliyah. Had 7+ Big movies deals which would’ve had her BOOKED for the next 3+ years. Upcoming clothing line (dolly pop), upcoming WORLD TOUR etc. And there a whole bunch more i can put and that all AT 22.

    • MUSICHEAD April 1, 2015

Brandy and Monica’s albums were not overshipped. What you’re not accounting for is sales from the major music clubs at the time which were BMG and Columbia House which was today’s equivalent to iTunes for u younger folks out there. Brandy and Monica continued to sell past their retail store numbers which is why their first albums have sold 5 and 3 million copies respectively. And let’s not forget that Brandy sold 14 million copies of Never Say Never. Let’s also not forget that Have You Ever was the #1 pop song in America for 9 weeks but couldn’t chart as so until the label FINALLY released it to retail in December of 1998. Brandy had 7 top 10 Billboard singles and 12 top 10 r&b when u include airplay only singles.

As far as the comparison to bey first i think it’s safe to say both are very talented women. Now as far as voices go yes bey voice is more powerful, but Aaliyah’s was WAY more soulful, smooth abd sultry. What I don’t understand is that GREAT singers like sade, billie holiday and a lot of iconic/legendary singers who don’t necessarily have powerful voices has never been accused of being weak singers or not being able to sing but why aaliyah? Hating perhaps?! Aaliyah had a GREAT RANGE thats still UNDERRATED like how she could do a try again, then hit u with a the one i gave my heart to, then a at your best, then a death of a playa ALL “DIFFERENT” RANGES and lastly put them ALL TOGETHER in ONE SONG I care 4 u, that song’s vocal arrangement and delivery is SICK. As far as overall talent goes they BOTH had things they were better at vocally bey was more powerful and aaliyah was more soulful & versatile. Dance wise bey is more big movements while aaliyah was more smooth, refined and also much more versatile. Acting wise Aaliyah was FAR SUPERIOR and again more versatile. ALL her roles were DIFERRENT queen from romeo, romeo from matrix, matrix from sparkle, sparkle from honey, honey from some kind of blue, all were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS (RANGE), while bey seems to play the SAME characters over and over again and still don’t do them well beside doing alright in dreamgirls and ok in cadillac records. Last but certainly not least musically again they both have something different bey is OVERALL MORE COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL 18 years+ but hey Aaliyah wasn’t no slacker either 7 year career with a 5 YEAR BREAK and atill at 22 manage to deliver 2 MULTIPLATINUM ALBUMS “AS A T***” and a GOLD ALBUM in 4 WEEKS (b4 she died) which WERE ALL COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY BUT ALSO “ALL” CRTICALLY FAVORED WITH HIGH PRAISE. And I’m still waiting on bey in her 30s 18+ years in the game to deliver a GROUNDBREAKING/GAME-CHANGING/DIFFERENT FROM LITERALLY EVERYBODY ELSE ALBUM like Aaliyah WAS ABLE to do at 16/17 (OIAM) and follow up with an album even more GROUNDBREAKING/FUTURISTIC/TIMELESS/EXPERIMENTAL AND EXTREMELY RISKY/COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM ALL HER CONTEMPORARIES ALBUM like Aaliyah was able to do AGAIN AT 22 and still be COMMERCIALLY AND CRTICALLY SUCCESSFUL. So all in all who knows what Aaliyah’s career would be if she was still here what can’t be said no matter HOW HARD YAL TRY was that the girl was MULTI-TALENTED, INNOVATIVE abd did the damn thing and then some while she was here.

  62. NicoleFan June 14, 2016

That girl is so overrated! She’s vocally on the level of Ciara! Ciara is the same thing as her anyway! Ciara was her replacement! “Aaliyah is dead, quick we gotta find someone exactly the same to replace her! Someone who looks good and has catchy songs and sings in that little whisper but can’t really sang!

  63. Shauntavius Alonzo Rodriguez Rimieriz October 28, 2018

What is this forgotten ugly beast even talking about? Beyoncé… that dog capitalized on Aaliyah’s death. Who cares about her? She is fat, disgusting and a wig wearer. Be like Beyoncé? Aaliyah never would want all that cellulite, Illuminati garbage, and 3 kids from a camel. M***** shut your face! This is the truth Beyoncé fans don’t wanna hear and here is another truth, Beyoncé is played completely washed up! Used Rag!
