After an impressive 9 consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100, Rihanna‘s 14th #1 single – ‘Work’ – has finally taken a bow from the tally’s perch. Dethroned by Desiigner‘s ‘Panda,’ the song’s 9 frame reign fell just one week short of matching her personal best (see: 2011’s ‘We Found Love’ which was on top for 10 consecutive weeks).

In fact in the whole 90s era, there’s not a single album that comes close to Madonna’s Ray of light in terms of quality, production and impact. This is why Janet, despite having more talent than Madonna lost to her and is also why Beyonce will lose to Rihanna.
As Rated R proved, when it comes to a quality project, Rihanna shits on Beyonce any day and Rihanna’s Ray of light is coming, I cannot wait for it.

It’s a shame that “Kiss it Better” isn’t doing as well as expected, but at least “Needed Me” is coming up swiftly to be another Hot 100 #1. Honestly, I can see it happening.

One thing I think EVERYONE has learned is to NEVER DOUBT Rih. The unexpected and impossible IS expected and possible for her. Look at how healthily the single is climbing up the chart. When you consider her streaming numbers for the album and the single, I think it’s obvious that it’ll end up being another #1 for her, even if it lasts for about 2-3 weeks at the top.
I also think it’s pretty obvious that Rih will be returning to her pop roots with the follow up to “????”. She did it with “????” right after “Rated R” to make sure that she didn’t lose her pop fans and look how commercially-successful that era was. I expect the next pop album to have a Metacritic aggregate score of 76+ (because it’s hard for pop albums to be universally acclaimed) since she’s writing all the songs now.

This is in no means to be shady, but the “Anti” era is basically a wrap at this point. “Work” had a really nice run (even though I, personally, wasn’t very fond of it) but the fact that they released “Kiss It Better” and “Needed Me” (the only two viable and REAL singles left on the album) at the same time was a dumb move….ESPECIALLY considering that lame excuse for a video for “Kiss It Better,” which could’ve easily been a #1. And while “Needed Me” had a chance at some glory, between the untimely passing of Prince and the onslaught that is Beyonce, no one is really paying attention to “Needed Me” at all (hence mid-30’s placement on iTunes). And with Drake coming next week it’s going to be another tracking period where no one’s particularly paying close attention to her.
