Tinashe strips off for the latest issue of Paper magazine.

Covering their new ‘Youth Issue,’ the ‘All Hands on Deck’ singer can be seen decked out in Moschino and other top designers a-front and inside the pop culture mag’s pages.

In addition to drawing comparisons to Britney Spears‘ infamous 1999 ‘Rolling Stone’ cover (via the pic seen above), Tinashe talks about her new album ‘Joyride,’ dealing with industry pressure, and so much more.

Get into her thoughts below:

Via Paper Mag (photos and quotes):

ON BEING A WOMAN IN THE INDUSTRY: “…as a young woman in the industry. A lot of people think, ‘Oh you’re just a cute girl.’ It has nothing to do with your artistry or your heart or work or anything like that. It’s obviously just about what you look like.”

ON HER NEW ALBUM: “You can’t have too many chefs in the kitchen. You have to stay true to your own instincts and just have your own vision. I think that is very important. Otherwise you just get lost in the sauce.”

ON PRESSURE: “I don’t feel pressure to look any way so much as I feel pressure to act a certain way. People are always shocked to know that I don’t date around with other celebrities. [But] it’s just not my style. I’m not trying to be well known because of the people I’m dating, or the people that I’m seen with. I’d rather just be known for my music or my art.
ON CONTROL: “It’s important nowadays to have your own perspective and get involved, because it is such a male-dominated industry. We need to gain back control.”

    More spreads. Less video interviews.

Pretty face. She is selling herself short, horrible or team. I cannot take this girl seriously.

I like her as a person and I think she has tons of potential but she does not have taste in great unique music.

    Flop…

  7. A&R April 14, 2016

She doesn’t understand the balance between making something unique yet commercial enough to help
Build her base. And she’s old enough to be a peer of the current greats. I’m not sure she’ll be able to be the next big thing bc the BeyRih reign isn’t over and won’t be for another 5 years. I think it’s bad timing. The next big thing is probably a teenager or tween. She’s in a odd place.

Social media kinda ruined all chances of us having another big popstar like Bey or Rih. i just don’t see it happening anytime soon.

      • RihannaIsMadonna April 15, 2016

I agree 100% social media has ruined any chance of newer artists to propel to the stardom of the yesteryears

I feel you on this; however, I think with the right method, social media could aid. They need to pull a Beyonce. W/ just a rare bit more creativity with its use. There’s a small line between sharing enough to intrigue and over sharing. I can tell you now… Tin’s captions on insta are too long and She has too much causal time on her behind the scenes footage . They must learn how to appear exclusive while sharing. Also, her music is different but lacks in production. Many may hate me for this but sonically Anti is pulls a lot from Tinashe sound. When I first heard the album I said damn…. Rih just swagger jacked Tinashe and did it better.smh And nothing is wrong with that. That’s part of the game… Using different sounds and textures to build upon your old. In spite of its unique sound, a lot of Tin’s music ends up being underwhelming. Her solid tracks never end up as singles. Like Vegas, being one them. Bated Breath was really good but released out of order. 2on, Like Vegas with a fire dance heavy video, then Pretend followed by Bated Breath. All Hands on Deck was a terrible song with a AWESOME video. I was so mad they wasted that video concept on that song. Smh. And they’re continuing the cycle of investing and releasing in the wrong songs. Player was a bad choice… Party Favors could’ve worked as a second single but with a really good visual and dance heavy video. This is where she missed the mark. She is a technical dancer who could do some amazing things with slower urban songs. If they design some really cool hip-hop inspired contemporary choreo with edgy visuals…. Ahhh! Party Favors with hints of that would have SMASHED. And Ride of Your Life should have been a single with a dope music video. Smh Although the actual track sound as if it’s messing something… The song is definitely one of her best releases and fits into the current TREND. They are missing it with her.

Everytime I see this poor girl I feel so sorry for her. She has the raw potential to be a superstar, but she doesn’t have the right guidance. It seem like she doesn’t have the budget, management team and label support that she needs to really break into this odd 21st century music business. It also seems as if she’s being swallowed up by the attention of Zendaya, Khelani, and Justine Skye even along with the other girls who are also fighting to make an imprint of commercial success. I think she’s too incredibly dope and talented to be so forsaken.

That’s true, it’s a weird time for music, talent and star power because they don’t have dominance over the platforms they used to.., magazines and to schedules are filled with reality stars, you’re basically competing with people who (have no actual talent to speak of) but enough free time to cultivate and maintain an social relevance media this media in general relevance. Bey and Rih cut through because they’re prettier, more talented (Bey), more daring (Rih) and have spicier personal lives than the soap star and reality plebs Tinashe and co are competing with. It sucks because none of our faves nor the legends that preceded them got where they did without the large industry budgets, tv shows dedicated to profiling them and an abundance of platforms to showcase their talent.
