New Song: Mary J. Blige – ‘U+Me (Love Lessons)’

Published: Thursday 16th Feb 2017 by Rashad

As fans continue to cry foul for the lack of full on promotion afforded Mary J. Blige‘s late 2016 bop of a single, ‘Thick of It,’ the Queen of Hip Hop Soul has seemingly left the Jazmine Sullivan-penned number in her rearview in favor of its follow-up, ‘U+Me (Love Lesson).’

‘Lesson’ leans on a number of themes found in ‘Thick,’ including what appears to be peeks into the end of her nearly 13-year marriage to ex-husband Kendu Isaacs.  Listed on the singer’s forthcoming album, ‘Strength of a Woman,’ rescheduled from its December 2016 release to a yet-revealed date, get into the new tune below and weigh in:

Man, f*** what you heard!  Mary J. Blige is coming with pure heat this era.  This + ‘Thick’ was everything we’ve been missing from MJB.  And, for as much as we are sorry to hear of her personal problems, we’ve learned that the best of her art is birthed from heartbreak.

Here’s hoping this single receives the promotional treatment it deserves and that the rest of ‘Strength’ sounds just as good!

This album is about to bang. This is God speaking to her through a divorce to give us this music.

Mary J Blige what did you do to my SOUL? OMG I’ve had
“Thick of It” on repeat and now she comes out with another banger!

We really need to appreciate her great talent and legacy. I’ve bought her last single and now I’m going to buy this.

P.s btw her magnum opus album “My Life” was an album that I grew up with because of my mom always playing it.

I think Mary’s first 3 albums (‘411’, ‘My Life’ and ‘Share My World’), along with the ‘Breakthrough’ are the main reasons she’s considered an R&B Queen! I have to say that I’m impressed with her longevity and constant ability to continue to truly deliver after so many years (and not just rest on her laurels)!

Thick of It is spending its 16th week at #1 on Billboard Adukt R&B Chart. ALSO, it stayed in Billboards top 10, R&B/HipHop RadionSongs Chart, for almost 10 weeks. That’s just the calm before the storm.

Ok! Mariah I love you but take notes

    • Jasmine February 17, 2017

Why bring Mariah into this? For nearly 30 years Mariah has not had a similar style to Mary J. Blige and no reason for her too change now. Different styles is a good thing. If all artists were the same then that would be boring.

Honey, Mary is a FAN of Mariah. Mariah, Celine, Aretha, Whitney, Anita are in a different lane than Mary. #takethosenoteshunnie

Got new Mary and the first verse was life. Keyshia song has grown on me, even Trey Songz is a good upbeat track. Now I’m waiting new Tamar new single next month and new Kelly later this year. It’s going to be 2013 all over again when r&b music made a nice little come back with some stellar albums.

    • Bosaze February 17, 2017

Yes to 2013!!! Hands down the best year for R&B music this decade and I feel like 2017 will be Pt. 2 also…

LOL QUEEN OF WHAT? BASIC HOODRATS? LMAO

    • Deon February 17, 2017

Nicki cool and all but she’s nowhere near MJB’s level. Mary is a legend. Her first album dropped in 1992 and we’re still praising her for new music in 2017.That’s 25 years fam. Nicki is cool, but she won’t have that type of longevity.

  17. Briano February 17, 2017

    Yayyyyyy

    Actual MUSIC from black americans

  18. 4everBrandy_Ci February 17, 2017

  19. gurlbye February 17, 2017

Come through, Mary! This is what we’ve been needing!

  20. Deon February 17, 2017

Mary J. Blige has to be the most consistent artist of the last 25 years. She always has “it” and she doesn’t have to crossover or change to be successful. She’s showing why she is the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. This song is begging for a verse from Wale.

  21. Jackx February 17, 2017

I can hear that my love is your love sample
Love this song, loving this era way better then London sessions❤❤

  22. RoyalKev February 17, 2017

This is so solid! I haven’t like this much music from Mary in a long while! I liked ‘Thick of It’, but I like this even more! Kudos!
