10 Female Singers Who Have Had Two Hot 100 Top 5 Singles Simultaneously

Published: Thursday 14th Sep 2017 by Rashad

As we reported here, this week saw Taylor Swift achieve the ultra-rare feat of having two Hot 100 top 5 singles simultaneously chart once again in her career.  The first time (in late 2014) the pop diva not only placed two songs in the chart’s topmost quintet of positions, but also made history as the first female to replace herself atop the tally (when ‘Shake It Off’ ceded to ‘Blank Space’).

Fast forward to this week, she’s done it again with her single ‘…Ready For It,’ which debuted at #4 while its predecessor – ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ – continues to occupy the top spot.

As her fans continue to ring in their praises for the accomplishment, we must remind them she’s not exactly alone among females who have known the honor at least once in their careers.  Tuck in below to see a list of other daring divas who can lay claim to the same [solo acts only]:

1.Adele (2012)

2.Ashanti (2002)

3.Beyonce (2003)

Beyonce (2008)

4.Iggy Azalea (2014)

5.Madonna (1985)

6.Mariah Carey (1995)

Mariah Carey (2005)

7.Monica (1998)

8.Nicki Minaj (2014)

9.Rihanna (2008)

Rihanna (2008)

Rihanna (2010)

10.Whitney Houston (1992)

*Honorable Mention*

Toni Braxton (1996)

Special note:  With the understanding there are more than 10 female acts who’ve accomplished this feat, this is not a comprehensive list, but instead is a career highlight of the female artists featured.

Toni Braxton doesn’t count because she had a double single in the top five, not two separate singles. During the 80s and 90s, some record labels made their artists to release two singles as one – like Toni, Janet Jackson, Jewel and 2Pac – so that the double single can boast a longer life on the charts as one song was promoted first followed by the other single.

Add Michael Jackson and MAry J. Blige onto that aforementioned list too.

    • King z September 14, 2017

Girl they’ve are two separate songs

      • The Wig Snatcher September 14, 2017

Girl, can you read? The title of this post said “two singles” and not “two songs.” For your remedial education, Toni had a double single, not two singles. Try again, sweetie.

    • King z September 14, 2017

OK. A double single is two diff singles right? Like am I missing something?

I get that u are saying the two songs cannot chart independently of each other because they are a double A side..but at the end of the day they are two separate singles

I love how TGJ made the “honorable mention” edit for Toni Braxton. They really read the comments. Kiiiii

    Mariah queeeeeeen.

  4. Jamon September 14, 2017

Why is Katy Perry and Britney on the cover and not on the list? I was expecting to see them on the list.

  5. Lisa September 14, 2017

MARIAH DID THAT. ICONIC. WHITNEY ALSO. WERKKKKKKKKKKKK

  6. JOHNVIDAL September 14, 2017

The slayage of Whitney Houston almost topping the hot 100 like 20 years later. When will this basic people be loved by the masses like that once they are not here? That remembered? The Mariah and Whitney ones were harder to achieve with how the rules were at that point btw. The real slayage are album sales anyway though. Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Madonna, Adele… the rest can try though.

    • RoyalKev September 14, 2017

Well, Nippy had a knack for accomplishing some unbelievable feats! … When the Star Spangled Banner is sung at SB and later becomes a HOT 100 top 20 hit, slayage! I have to agree with you, it’s not likely that many will be remembered and beloved decades down the line (out of all the artists charting in the last 17 years). It takes more than sales and hits to obtain that kind of adoration! Album sales/pure sales will always be everything though! It just puts everything into perspective.

  7. Jeans September 14, 2017

Janet’s not on there cuz she always spaced her singles out and wasn’t thirsty to crank out a top 5 in a hurry like other insecure chicks.

      #sipslemonade #sipscoconutwater

  8. Cory Wynne September 14, 2017

I remember that week in 2008. Beyonce, Rihanna, TI and Eminem had two songs each in the top 10. That has never EVER been done before. All R&B and Hip Hop too

    • The Wig Snatcher September 14, 2017

      Iconic

    • TMM September 14, 2017

Bey was releasing Pop music tough

  9. Metzo September 14, 2017

Looking at this just reminded me of how much RnB and Black artists dominated the charts back in the day up until 2009 before generic pop/EDM took over ??

  10. Blak September 14, 2017

I agree with all of y’all, this list ain’t all the way right & whoever did this list didn’t do their research! Donna Summer had the number 1 (hot 100) single Hot Stuff & then she scored her second number 1 with the single Bad Girls which(Hot Stuff) dropped out of the #1 spot & Hot Stuff moved to number 3 while Bad Girls #1 was in the penthouse. TGJ or billboard get it together!

    • Dino September 15, 2017
