Diplo On Taylor Swift & Cardi B Chart Battle: “Taylor Had To Surrender”

Published: Sunday 3rd Dec 2017 by David

Many have tried, but efforts to dismantle Taylor Swift‘s unstoppable success remain futile.

That was, according to Diplo, until Cardi B came along.

For, the super-producer has revealed that he believes Cardi’s hit ‘Bodak Yellow‘ ascent to #1 after it booted Swift’s ‘Look What Y0u Made Me Do’ from the top spot proves that the latter is one of many Pop stars struggling to find durable hits.

His words below…

He told ‘Vogue Italia‘…

When I moved to L.A., I tried to write pop records, but to be honest I did not know how to do it. I started doing my thing and building my brand. In the end it was successful, but in my own way. I realized that if you are completely independent, you have more power. In L.A. [everyone is] copying each other. All the big pop producers fight to get their first place in the standings … I do not need to make the record that is first in the standings.

Then he shared…

All pop stars are struggling to have great hits.Taylor Swift just had to surrender the first position to Cardi B, a rapper, and then Post Malone, another rapper. … If five years ago you said that would happen, I’d never have believed you.

Swift’s latest LP ‘Reputation‘ is already on track to becoming one of the fastest selling sets of the last decade despite the backlash she continues to face for her feuds with Katy Perry, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

So, with Diplo’s assessment in mind, we ask…

Do stars as big as Taylor need hit singles to sustain the careers?

And…

How much of a threat are newbies like Cardi to their more established rivals?

Did he lie? Taylor is nothing without her red neck fans which is why she kept quiet during the election.

      Facts

Why should all stars go into politics? I don’t see your point. I think she was the wisest pop star during last year’s election. All the other names chose sides, Gaga and Katy highly promoted Hillary (I am also a Hillary supporter btw), but the whole thing was just for fame… since then you could see that both Katy and Gaga are flopping with their albums and singles, they have small arena tours.

On the other hand, you have singers like Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift and bands like Coldplay who have sold out stadium tours all over the world. They had the right choice, they don’t want to divide their fans with politics and choosing a candidate…. that’s why they are popular.

On the article… Cardi B is a one hit wonder, she will be forgotten in 2 years….

And Beyonce is nothing with her red neck and few black that pretend to support her fake self …but at the end of the day it really don’t matter who supports you

Well she sells more albums than all your favs soooo

    • Cbeylive December 3, 2017

But she doesn’t make legendary music. It’s literally the same thing every album with no growth. that’s why these soccer moms buy it up

      • Faf December 3, 2017

But u don’t listen to country which is where she got started
        “Fifteen”
        “Teardrops on my guitar”
“Tim mcgraw” are songs that ppl know her by she’s chosen to be trendy now and diversify but these are country classics

Taylor might write her songs, I’ll continue to pass on them though…🤦🏽‍♂️ Cardi B is doing what she do best can’t knock her she’s been through it all as a young artist!!

  4. Taylor swifts number 1 fan!!! December 3, 2017

Let’s see this new artist be as consistent as Taylor swift… Taylor spent 2 weeks at number 1. She’s not had many number 1 singles. She’s an album artist.

  5. Ughhhh December 3, 2017

    I’d fûck Diplo honestly

  6. GurlWepa1989 December 3, 2017

There’s no comparison…Taylor record hit number 1 without any promo or video while Cardi was performing the hell out of Bodak Yellow. Taylor’s record was a global smash #1 and outsold Bodak Yellow. #facts

This Taylor era feels like such a non-event compared to her previous ones. I don’t even know what her second single is…

Are you guys joking Taylor has made more money then every artist who came out this year in one week. Lol Cardi has people listening to her song for free & buying a 1.29 & sometimes 69cent single while Taylor had fans buying a 15$ album or 25$ if you got it from Target. And her new Stadium tour had to add new dates because it’s doing so well. I just Hope Cardi album does well because if it doesn’t she will be dragged for the Gods. Lol

  9. Casual December 4, 2017

Taylor’s Look wasn’t going to stay #1 forever. She was going to surrender the pole position to somebody. This man is almost 40. He’s been around the industry long enough to know that popular tastes go and come. Five years ago, the top of the pop charts was all pop and techno. It makes sense that hip hop is now resurging.

  10. Theman December 4, 2017

Nah he’s off. Taylor Swift is astronomical. Hit songs for the most part help all artists even the huge ones. Taylor’s song was still a huge success. Post Malone had a hit due to certain things. Cardi got a major push because people wanted her to succeed for the culture. That’s just one song though. Taylor’s level of success is out of this world….

  11. Theman December 4, 2017

He seems a little bitter about T. Swift. She did a lot of great things with her first single without having to do too much because of how huge she is..

  12. KING B!! December 7, 2017

Diplo is Sexxi Asf.. I want him to bend me over
