Chart Check [Hot 100]: Ariana Grande’s ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ Certified Platinum, Blasts Back Into Top 10

Published: Thursday 5th Jul 2018 by Rashad

Her Nicki Minaj-assisted single, ‘The Light is Coming,’ may be off to an uncharacteristically slow start (finally cracking the Hot 100 this week at #95), but ‘No Tears Left to Cry’ – the inaugural offering from Ariana Grande‘s forthcoming fourth studio effort, ‘Sweetener’  – continues to enjoy sweet success.

After making a record-setting debut on the main singles chart in April (click here to read more on that), the Max Martin-produced cut went on to remain a mainstay in the tally’s top 10.  Now, with a handsome mix of streams, digital downloads, and radio airplay to its credit, ‘Cry’ has become her latest release to cross the platinum threshold.

As if that’s not enough to celebrate, the song rocketed back into the top 10 this week after a brief hiatus.  Look inside to see who joined her in this week’s TGJ Chart Check:  Hot 100:

I just wanted to post what one of Nicki stans said after Cardi hit #2 for the second time as predicted. I think it’s ironic considering if it wasn’t Cardi but Nicki instead, this wouldn’t have been said AT ALL.

“In the end, I’d rather have a big discography full of hits and other memorable moments than a short career with a Hot 100 #1 or two. A #1 is an achievement with bragging rights, for sure, but a big hit is a big hit is a big hit. The more the merrier, and Nicki has an assload of em. There’s an element of luck to scoring a certain peak, along with many other factors.

It’s like an actor getting nominated for 6 Oscars over a 30 year career as an A-lister but never winning vs. an actor who won an Oscar for their first role and then falls off the map. Sometimes it’s the one role in the one movie and all the stars align, but that’s their sole claim to fame.

This is a general statement, and not intended to detract from anyone’s achievements. I just think the H100 #1 game is rather futile when there’s a much larger picture.”

Name one old Nicki single that is still played on the radio today. I’ll wait. STFU. Nicki has no memorable hits other than maybe super bass just like cardi has bodak yello. Realize that your fav Nicki is just an older version of forgettable music!

Lmao most of the old Nicki song that radio plays are usually old features, not really her own songs unless it’s from her first album or “Anaconda”. Her stand are truly bothered to not be bothered. Nicki only has herself to blame for a lackluster era, not Cardi success.
