Directed by Salim Akil and penned by Kenny Smith, season 7 of BET‘s ‘The Game‘ kicked off in spectacular fashion on March 4th, marking the first serving of the show since September 3rd 2013.

The above, facts any familiar with the series will already be aware of.

However, what these fans may not know, is that their support of the series helped it to pull in a viewing figure that made it the highest viewed cable show of the night, beating the likes of MTV’s ‘Teen Mom’ FOX‘s ‘Family Guy’ and ABC‘s ‘Pretty Liars.’

Indeed, after 2013′s close saw former foes Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera joined forces for ‘Do What U Want’, music lovers kick their new year off getting cozy with ‘Can’t Remember To Forget You’ - the dynamo diva duet of Grammy-winning songstresses Shakira & Rihanna.

Launching what we hope is a year of diva double teams, the song inks its name aboard a long list of memorable collabos from the ladies of pop & R&B – collectively putting to rest rumors that women don’t work well together in the industry.  And, while the net (and we at TGJ) are still making up our minds on Shakira and Ri’s latest offering,  we can’t help but reflect on the ‘best of’ diva duets to see how the Roc Nation duo stack up.

It’s that time of year again!

Indeed, tonight saw the 2014 Grammy nominations unveiled as per usual of its nomination concert special weeks before the actual showing.  But, what comes with the ‘per usual’ showing are the jaw-dropping surprises, snubs, and all out “shut-outs” that accompany the annual spectacle.

Always a heated debate-starter, the coveted tally saw the likes of Christina Aguilera, Trey Songz, Janelle Monae, Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Brandy, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Kelly Rowland, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, India.Arie, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga all go without mention.

For Bieber – whose manager made headlines for his rant regarding his 2013 Grammy shutout – this would be a second-go-round despite consistently clocking some of the year’s biggest hits.

With three weeks left before audiences get their first peek at the star-studded holiday film ‘Black Nativity’ (in theaters November 27th), its star/Grammy winning diva Jennifer Hudson continues to wow fans with gospel-tinged offerings from its accompanying soundtrack (available on Itunes now).

Already winning rave reviews for her soulful take on the Walter Hawkins’ gospel classic ‘Be Grateful’ (which can be heard here), now the songstress is inviting listeners in to hear another gem on the soundtrack.  Titled “Hush Child (Get You Through This Silent Night)”, the soul-stirring number also features the dynamic vocals of film co-stars/R&B crooners Luke James and Jacob Lattimore.

Hailed as one of the most influential African American acts to grace Pop culture, Brandy‘s impact on music and the world at large has seen transcend levels set or met by many of her closest contemporaries.

Indeed, before the arrival of Beyonce or the wise workings of Olivia Pope on ABC’s ‘Scandal’ was Brandy, one of the only women of colour to lead a US prime time television show at just 17 years old. This, achieved as she joined Mary J.Blige, TLC and Aaliyah at the forefront of R&B and its Pop chart domination.

With all this in mind, it only makes sense that the icon be celebrated for her contributions to the field of entertainment, as she enjoys her 20th year within the field.
