Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to celebrate TV and Film’s dramatic past.

Today, we revisit the smash hit thriller ‘The Girl on the Train.’

Based on Paula Hawkins book of the same name, the movie follows the life of a recently divorced woman whose life is ruined by addiction to alcohol.

Keen to escape her reality and venture into her past she rides the train but soon finds herself trapped in a fiery circle of danger when one of her journeys leads her to a murder.

Sounds intriguing right?

Revisit the epic movie below…

The release, which was met with mixed reviews, earned $173 million from ticket sales…$24.5 million of that picked up during its opening weekend.

The Girl on the Train has a talented cast, but ultimately squanders it for the sake of a hollow, ponderous plot. Alternately overly convoluted and predictable, the film relies too heavily on its twists while offering little in the way of character development, leaving its three central women as unrelatable and unlikable stereotypes

Do you agree?

    Loved this movie!

Compared to the book, the film fell FLAT as s pancake. There was a lot of meat in that novel; which unfortunately didn’t translate onscreen.
I do love Emily Blunt though. And wish she would snag more high-end roles
