Earlier this Fall, the future of BET’s hit drama series ‘Being Mary Jane’ was rocked by a $3 million lawsuit filed by its star, Gabrielle Union, for a ‘breach of contract’ concerning salary increases and filming.
Despite the legal drama and industry politics, BET and its leading lady proceeded to promote the upcoming season with teasers that lead many to believe the two sides had reached an amicable agreement.

It appears that those assumptions were correct.
With two weeks remaining until the ‘Mary Jane’ season 3 premiere, BET has announced that the two parties have come to an ‘amicable agreement.’
“BET Networks is pleased to announce that they have reached an amicable agreement with Gabrielle Union and look forward to sharing the new season of Being Mary Jane with its loyal fans beginning January 10, 2017.”
Excellent.
‘Being Mary Jane’ is BET’s few scripted series. Since its 2013 premiere, drama series has managed to gift the network with its highest ratings. But with executive producer Mara Brock Akil tenure ending, could the show’s authentic spark may be exiting right along with the show’s creators?
Who knows.
However, with Will Packer replacing Akil as EP, and the addition of Michael Ealy to the cast, ‘Mary Jane’ could maintain its reign as BET’s sweetheart series.

I’m not surprised this battle occurred. The same thing happened when “The Game” was resurrected and BET didn’t want to pay up. That led to Pooch and Tia leaving tbh… Tia never confirmed it but she never really denied it either…
