Jennifer Hudson is heading back to The Voice – and this time on home-soil!
Fresh from winning her inaugural season on the UK branch of the show, it has been announced that the Oscar and Grammy winner will be joining season 13 of the US series.
Set to air this September, J.Hud will star as a coach alongside Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton.
Speaking on her addition to the panel, NBC Entertainment president Paul Telegdy said:
“Jennifer is an extraordinary vocal talent and one of the premier voices of our time. She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that The Voice stands for. Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show.”
The news comes as singer-actress readies her fourth studio album for release later this year.

During Hudson’s run on the UK show, she easily served as one of – if not “the” – most popular personality on the panel. As such, she’ll most definitely be an asset.
Musically, we’re buzzed for her because this’ll also provide a solid platform to plug her new material too. A win for all.
I love Jennifer and do think that she’s a great choice, but I actually would have preferred Kelly Rowland over her.

I will be so HAPPY when all of these pointless “talent shows” are a thing of the past. NO ONE who wins these little showcases ever turns into a real, mainstream celebrity or star. Those days of American Idol champs making that transition into award winning stardom and recording artist are loooong gone. THE VOICE is a total waste of airtime. LORD… I miss the days when entertainers were signed behind closed doors and ushered into public consumption with real hit records, a polished image and raw marketability.
I agree, but the lack of success is the current state of the music business where everyone is generic and lacks creativity in both style and music. Artists like Fantasia, Kelly Clarkson, Alexandra Burke or Leona Lewis would’ve won a talent show today because its all about image first and basic voice next. The days of the diva or crooner are over….
You are missing the bigger picture. It is not about the “winner” at all. It is another reflection that the networks are out of tv show ideas. American Idol is just another version of Star Search. Star Search was a huge show with big ratings during the SAME time period you refer to as “days when entertainers were signed behind closed doors.” I think it might be best to just turn the channel and watch something else. That is what I do when I don’t like a particular show and it is easier than whining about how you dislike it.

Except Star Search never turned out any real stars either. Hell, it was the people who LOST who ended up winning in the long run. Destiny’s Child (Beyoncé), Usher, JT, Britney and Christina Aguilera all failed to get the top spot but each of them became premier pop stars in their generation. American Idol and X-Factor are the only one of these type of shows to have produced stars.

It is not really about the “winner” at all. It is a show that the network gets big sponsors for. Most of the times it is some of the non-winners that have long lasting careers on shows like these (Beyonce, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Aaliyah, etc.) all went on Star Search and lost and got record deals later on.
we are NOT talking about “Star Search” from 30 years ago sweetheart. The purpose and success of that series is NOT AT ALL mirrored by the fly-by-night “talent” that is featured and forgotten about on the AMERICAN IDOLS and VOICE episodes of present day. MOST ADULTS who think realistically, can clearly see that these present series are a waste of everyone’s time — especially the participants whose names and overall identities are washed away the moment the season ends. STOP responding to everyone with your ideal perspective. what Ed McMahon and his team accomplished 30+ years ago has no bearing on the failed attempts of creating true stars by todays talentless television showcases.
