Kanye West Defends Soulja Boy

Published: Sunday 22nd Jun 2008 by Sam
Kanye West Defends Soulja Boy In a recent entry on his official blog, Kanye West took up for Soulja Boy in his escalating ‘beef’ with rapper/actor Ice T. Here’s what Kanye had to say on the issue:

Soulja boy is fresh ass hell and is actually the true meaning of what hip hop is sposed to be. He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song. He had all of America rapping this summer. If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit? Niggas always talk about the golden age but for a 13 year old kid, this is the golden age!!! That song was so dope cause everything he said had a hidden meaning… that’s Nas level shit… he just put it over some steel drums which is also some Nas shit if you had the 2nd album cassette with the bonus track “Silent Murder” on it. In closing… new niggas get ya money$$$$$$$$$$ Keep this shit fresh and original…. ain’t no fuckin’ rules to this shit and that’s what real hip hop is to me.

– Kanye West

Interesting…lol. In other news, Ice T has responded to Soulja Boy’s response (if that makes any sense lol):

It’s increasing seeming like an Old Skool vs New Skool situation…

ok kanye needs to shut da fhuk up, he always wants his name to be in everything. i dont completely disagree with him about the soulja boy song cuz it wasnt all that bad but the song “yahh” was deffinetly one of the worst ever. everytime i hear someone singing it, its because they are making fun a soulja boy. Im all up for a good hip-hop vs. wack hiphop war. i agreed with all the artist he named that were good hip-hop.

What I don’t understand is, why is it that people can’t just go out there and make music that they want to make? Ice T made his comments and they were totally uncalled for. Soulja boy is doing his thang. If you don’t like his music then you are entitled to your opinion, but why knock him for it? Everyone has a different fan base. As far as I’m concerned I agree with Kanye, and I’m not a fan of his, and I agree with Soulja boy and while I did like that Superman song, I’m not overly a fan of his either. People should just give people the respect that is due to them. People are doing what they love to do and are trying to make money at it. Agree or disagree with it, but at least respect people’s hustle.

“If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is? A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new s***?”

Take out the “hate on new s***” part and WA-LA: You have Kanye West, the Vice president of BITCHASSNESS Inc.

His argument is null & void IMO. I don’t have much respect for this man anymore, but I hope he was high on something when he compared Soujla Boy’s “hidden meanings” to Nas’ (pre-2007).

On to Ice-T: He’s in the wrong. Telling Soulja Boy to “eat a penis” was WAYYY out of line. He needs to let this young man have what’s left of his 15 mins (he’s at 13:50 in my book) and call it a day. Ice T will be remembered as a great rapper, not the boy who glorifies being a dumbass in school and degrades women. LMAO. This whole thing is quite funny, actually. A one hit wonder versus a legend, who would’ve thunk?

i love kanye he is one of my most favorite artist but lately he has been really losing some screws.

As a 45 year-old female, I am appalled at Ice-T. This is what happens when you are young and do not get an education and uses the “N” word as a regular form of vocabulary; you get older and sound the same. It is so much wrong with this and his prior message that I am left speechless. He should not call anyone, especially a young boy the “N” word, nor tell him to eat a d@&k. There should be legal pedophilia ramifications for that statement.

Note to Soulja Boy: Do not respond. Show who is the better man. Keep making music and do you thang. I know all of this has hurt your feelings, but stay true to you.

Much love from a 45 year-old woman who respects youth, regardless if I agree. Also, see if there is legal action you can take from an older man telling you to eat a d@*k. Call your lawyers, now!

  7. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy: Your best revenge against Ice-T is not through hip-hop. You need to go to school and achieve a higher education, graduate a scholar, and show him up intellectually. Then, sit and wait in the cut until he does something illegal and sneak up on him like a thief in the night. Use your wealth for education! Don’t be an old fool like Ice-T, go to school.

  8. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy: You are being bullied and harassed by a forty-something year-old man and his son. They are slandering your name. This is beyond just talking smack. There is something very illegal about this. Do not respond until you speak to your lawyers, because you did nothing to provoke this attack.

Know your rights! Call your lawyers, now!

  9. Anonymous June 22, 2008

At least Soulja Boy is not rapping about pimping, shooting the police, strippers and other vulgarity. If that world is Ice-T’s reality, so be it. Maybe Soulja Boy’s reality is about dancing and having fun. He should be able to rap about his reality as well.

  10. Anonymous June 22, 2008

If Ice-T wanted to come back on someone, it should have been Kanye West. Not that I disagree with Kanye, but he is closer to Ice-T’s age. Can an old man legally tell a minor child to eat his d@#*k? Then, apologize and uses his son to do his pedophilia work?

Something ain’t right about this, yall. Something just ain’t right.

  11. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy: Call your lawyers and get this and the other video with Ice-T making sexual requests to you pulled from youtube.

  12. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy: I am sure you have pain and suffering from having an old man requests that you eat his d@#*k. You may have people laughing at you and you now feel isolated and afraid. See what type of help you can get from your lawyers!

  13. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy: Review the movie, “The Count of Monte Cristo” to see how to conquer the best revenge. I think you should achieve a higher education, become a successful businessman, and take-over all of Ice-T’s real estate and businesses. You are young enough to take your time and see this through.

Ice-T is wrong and I want you to bust his nuts!

  14. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Ice-T claims that he gives props to Hurricane Chris, Lil Wayne, Lupe, etc., who are are all adults. He should not say anything negative about a minor. Ice-T, wait until Soulja Boy becomes of age. Let this child alone!

  15. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Soulja Boy should sue his a$$ for requesting that a minor sucks his d@#k, and than laugh all the way to the bank. Bankrupt that b$#%tch.

  16. Anonymous June 22, 2008

The word caliber means, “Degree of merit or excellence; quality.” The word old means, “Far advanced in the years of one’s or its life.” Go to school Ice-T, you don’t have caliber, you are just an old man.

I guess that whack reality show where you were teaching the young kids to rap was progressive.

I wish I was Soulja Boy’s mama. You would be under the jail for telling my minor child to suck your d@#k. Apology not accepted.

  17. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Does Law and Order condone an employee suggesting that a young minor eat his d@*k?

  18. Anonymous June 22, 2008

    @ Anonymous 2:13:

Now-and-days being the better man is way too over-rated. We’d be lucky if this really reaches out to people of hip-hop and lets them know what’s up.

  19. Tammy June 22, 2008

I agree with Souljah Boy (SB). Ice T was way out of line to talk to SB like that. The best revenge is continued success. He needs to write better rhymes, strive to get a good education(including college) and become a better businessman. Success is the best revenge served cold. Kanye made a good point also. SB made a path for himself for creating his own music, and dance craze. Is SB the best rapper like Nas? No. But, they each created their own lane in hip hop.

  20. tia June 22, 2008

ok so where the hell do i start…

well kanye i love you,you are my favorite rapper and i realize i gotta take the good with the bad….and obviously this is the bad because you are trippin just a lil bit

but i will say this,i have some that many times people always talkin about back in the day and how thats when real hip hop was alive but if you think about it back in the day all they needed was a beat they made up,a catchy hook and they told a simple story in their lyrics, everybody stayed fresh and rocked the party……isnt that in some instance what soulja boy is doing? so thats why i kinda agree wit ye….on second hand, soulja boy is in no way saying anything of importance in his music, now i happen to like his lil songs i think their funny, but thats just me and my personality and im sure there are a slew of horrible comments towards the lil boy…but he is nobodys nas and nobodys jay-z so he aint gettin those types of props from me,he’ll get props for doing him and making his own money, and getting into producing at such a young age

now ice-t….go get your depends and sit down somewhere…stick to law & order…(even tho you the same n**** who claimed you hated the cops bahahahaha) that is not a beef that is a bunch of damn nonsense i could even see how soulja boy could be offended, hell i would be offended if ice-t came at me…with his ole two-faced self and his lil hooker wife lol

  21. ti June 22, 2008

and omg number 14 i was just catching count of monte cristo today that is sooo random and funny lol, that man was not playing when it came to his revenge lol

  22. Anonymous June 22, 2008

Rap music is not the only genre that has turned to crap. Have you heard R/B and pop music lately? This proves that the change of music (crap or not) is the signs of the time. Ice-T is saying the same thing that our older generation said about his music. Every generation thinks their music is better!

  23. Anonymous June 23, 2008

Why doesn’t a representative from Pop music talk about that BS that Mariah records, “Touch My Body” and “Shake It Off.” Are these the songs for a true vocalist? No, it is commercial BS. However, she stays on top of the charts, even though she lip syncs all of her live performances. Don’t attack Soulja Boy (a minor child), go and attack the music industry!

  24. Anonymous June 23, 2008

Ice-T owes Soulja Boy a public apology. Does he feel good about causing the youtube community to laugh at a young child? Ice-T needs to take responsibility for his choice of words. What if he is the cause of Soulja Boy going through a depression and possibly harming himself. I am sure that even his family is now being ridiculed. I hope Soulja Boy’s mama take this to a higher court.

  25. Anonymous June 23, 2008

It cannot be about a beef when a minor child is involved and getting served by a grown-a$$ man. A beef should be amongst colleagues with the same rank and file. This is ludicrous.

  26. Anonymous June 23, 2008

I think that Ice-T should leave Souja Boi alone.Being all messy and all of that. For a young man,he produced his own beats, got a tight dance move, and did successful. now don’t tell me that being original isn’t garbage.

Second:Ice shouldn’t have responded!! That’s adding more fuel to the fire!If you ask me,Souja is being the bigger man in this, despite the fact that he retaliated to those words that started the whole thing.

…And isn’t it ironic that long ago,Ice-T used to be rapping about the police and being against them, and now playing one on television?

  27. Anonymous June 23, 2008

Ice T rapped about his dislike for the police because of their ACTIONS, not for the hell of it. He rapped about what he saw on the streets. Back then, hip-hop was about EDUCATING and UPLIFTING, not making dance moves, girls with “donks”, screaming at people, and throwing D’s on report cards. But clearly, it’s evolved (whether or not for the worst is your opinion). I’m really going to take it no one understands what the hell Soulja Boy talks about. Ice was out of line for telling him to eat a d***, but he was spot on with everything else. Only stating what plenty were thinking.

And with this whole weak ass argument about his acting…he’s playing a ROLE on Law & Order. Doesn’t really reflect his values seeing as how it’s a CHARACTER. We don’t know the real reason behind his decision to play a cop on Law & Order. But he’s getting PAID, so that may be the reason.

Both of them are dumb and in the wrong (IMO)

  28. Anonymous June 23, 2008

If Ice-T can get paid by playing a character on Law & Order, then Soulja Boy can get paid making whatever kind of music gets him the money.

This isn’t about great music, because today, all music sucks. This is about a 49 year-old man telling a 17 year-old to eat his d@#k and contributing to him being a laughing stock on the internet. All of the old school rappers should whup Ice-T’s a$$ for embarrassing their generation.

  29. Anonymous June 23, 2008

Ice-T was really whack when he had his son to follow in his magnificent footsteps. What values is he teaching his son? What values is he teaching young girls by flaunting his stripper wife around. She may be a nice lady, but her appearance is messed up. The moral of this story is: money is nothing without education. Learn from the Olsen twins, who are filthy rich, but still knows the value of getting an education.

Stay in school. It doesn’t matter how much money you make if you don’t know anything about accounting and how to invest and spend it well. You will just wind up a washed-up rapper who use to have money. Listen to Young Buck talk about the money he owes the government. It shows that he did not spend his money well.

Use your money to go to school!

  30. Anonymous June 23, 2008

Thank you Ice-T and the rest of hip-hop for single-handedly killing the English language.

  31. Anonymous June 23, 2008

um 5:46 knock it off….when ice-t was a rapper he claimed to be gangsta,he hated the police and didnt educate nobody for too much of s***….so please stop…to me if you going off on the police calling them all types of names and saying how much you hate them then turn around and play one on tv that makes you a hypocrite…POINT BLANK he definitley wasnt about to make another “hit” record in his lifetime so why not play the very thing you said you hated huh?…..yeah he gettin paid for it(which imo he isnt even a good actor)but he is acting on soulja boy for doing exactly what he is doing, putting some food on his familys plates

ice-t sound like a West Coast Mark ass n**** the way he was coming at that child and he needs to be slapped twice for even coming out of his hole and opening his mouth, especially when he aint doing nothing to change anything, just talking big s***,if you gonna talk s*** like that and threaten people with his WEST COAST OG’S then he should be talking to grown ass men,not a teenaged boy…..that shows just how much of a gangster he really is

  32. Anonymous June 23, 2008

um 10:34 a.m. – I applaud you. You make an excellent point about Ice-T threatening Soulja with OG’s coming after him if Soulja Boy continues to make remarks. I do not remember Ice-T being the king of rap. Maybe, I was in a hole somewhere. The only song I dug was from the New Jack City soundtrack.

Ice-T had no business coming out like that on a teenage boy. However, after seeing his son take hold of his reins at the end of the video, Ice-T is probably jealous that his son is not a success and blames Soulja Boy for his son’s failures.

In any event, Ice-T’s comments leave me speechless. They are simply appalling.

  33. Anonymous June 25, 2008

Ice-T is too f***** old to be arguin with a child thats so ignorant he’s a grown man WTF

  34. Anonymous June 27, 2008

Kanye just want his name in the business while it has nothing to do with him and I don’t know why Ice-T even took the time to talk about this retarded ass lil n**** in the first place. If America wakes up Soulja Boy won’t be here next year and all the real n***** will be happy again.

  35. Anonymous September 2, 2008

    thank you kanye….
BTW the top 4 rappers alive made a new song called “swagger like us”

i totally agree with kanye, hes gonna be the new stuff, the new future hip-hop, things change
ice-t shouldnt be makin fun of younger ppl like that
