That Grape Juice reported back in Febraury that Amerie was on the verge of signing with Def Jam. According to Contact Music, the singer’s move to the LA Reid headed label, which is the home of Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Ne-Yo etc, became finalized recently. Check out the report below:Singer AMERIE is set to undergo a career overhaul – after signing a deal with the record label which turned RIHANNA into an international superstar.
The 1 Thing hitmaker has parted ways with Columbia Records and inked a deal with Def Jam, the company that secured the massive track Umbrella for Rihanna last year (07), catapulting her to global fame.
And Amerie, who has previously released two albums to moderate success, is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.A source tells Britain’s Daily Star newspaper, “Amerie’s first two albums did well, but she’s ready to step it up a gear now.
“She was offered a deal too good to turn down and the promise to build upon her reputation for classy and sexy R&B.”
On a personal note, as a supporter of real talent, I am real pleased for Amerie and optimistic about what the future holds for her. If Def Jam can do what they’ve done with Rihanna for the much more talented Amerie (IMO), then she really may be in with a chance of hitting it BIG.

Amerie can really sing when she’s not trying too hard. and she’s gorgeous! I like her singing regular R&B songs. Like I can see her recording something like Keyshia Cole’s last album and it sounding great. Her songs off her first album had that vibe..

Love Amerie, and her last three albums were all great. Although, I’m a bit nervous because signing with Def Jam could go either way. She could be successful just like Rihanna, or she could get screwed over like Janet. Who knows. Lets hope it all works out. She deserves all the success.

PS. They basically used this announcement to promote Ri-bot. It’s a sad world when they mention Ri-bot over Mariah Carey.

SCAM! Def Jam is signing all these chicks to slowly rid Rihanna of possible competition. They just sign on all of these singers and then refuse to promote them like their Bajan princess. I call b******* on this, unless they prove me wrong.
I think Amerie has been in the game and screwed over enough to be smarter then that. Theres no denying that Def Jam is the label to make you a success but thats if you do what they say so it will be interesting to see what she comes up with. Ive always seen Amerie as very original and true to herself and dont think that will change.
I love Amerie but I’m not sure if this is a good move. Yes, Def Jam did make Rihanna into a big star but she is also the only one they promote besides Ne-Yo. Great artists like Megan Rochell, Bobby Valentino, and Shareefa fell by the wayside as far as promotion.Heck even Teairra Mari had potential but they didn’t market her right at all. They can’t even promote Janet and that should be easy because she already has a built in fanbase. Good luck to her though…she’s going to need it to compete for the same attention as that studio artist Rihanna.

IMO i think rihanna is much more talented then Amerie, everyone hates on rihanna and i don’t see why the only reason they have to hate is because she’s talented,beautiful,and successful i must admit amerie’s touch and 1 thing were my jam at one point but overall i think her voice is weak almost annoying no hate hear just opinion because like i said i did like some of her songs.
So pleased for her, she’s so underlooked.

I’ve always said that Amerie was severly underrated and under promoted and that Columbia execs all deserve flat tires.. I do not think Def Jam signing Amerie has anything to do with Rihanna….It’s called Def Jam trying to be smart. Rihanna has been working non-stop by dropping 3 albums back to back so she definitely will not be dropping another album next year. Amerie, on the other hand, is eager to have another US release so Def Jam is a good way to go and she would not be competing with Rihanna when her album drops.

I know for a fact that Amerie is one of the most gifted talent of singers. Amerie is the real DIVA. In my opinion, Rihanna’s voice isn’t as strong. However, i like her unique voice. I don’t think Rihanna is as good as Amerie, honestly
Def Jam is residual disaster! they have been for years. Look at how many of these artists come out in the end after have been on their label..There have been artists they just plainly forgot about! dats so sad…takin their money and running.. Oh Amerie’s time is coming to…she’s a smart gurl but she should joined JRecords. Def Jam has fraud behind the scenes..theres more people don’t even know!
I don’t think Amerie can sing at all. All she does is tremble and screech her way through a song. Maybe the vocoder will work for her too? LOL
