Kat Deluna Gets Booed Singing The US National Anthem

Published: Tuesday 16th Sep 2008 by Sam
It’s not often you see Kat Deluna around these sides (you’ll know why a few seconds after watching the video…ok, that was bad on my part lol). Anyway, the singer gave an ‘interesting’ rendition of the US national anthem – The Star Spangled Banner- at a football game in Dallas, Texas recently – so ‘interesting’ that the crowd booed her resoundingly. Check it out:

Ouch. From what I’ve seen prior to now, the girl can actually sing; however all the unnecessary vocal runs and acrobatics killed the performance right from the jump. Still trying to establish herself in the industry, it would be a shame if this is what she is remembered for…

Your thoughts?

I thought it was ok. I mean the singing. Although that’s not how one should sing the national anthem (she should have tried singing Beyonce’s “Work it out” song instead 🙂

That was terrible. Anyone saying it was good has something wrong with their hearing.

  9. Rashid September 16, 2008

yea tried too hard, she can sing though, u can hear the power in her voice. Like all of us, we have our off days once in a while…but im sure she could do a better job if she just toned it down a notch.

    Absolute shiit

LOL . . . poor thang, hopefully it won’t be to sore a rememberance for her, all performers makes mistakes and they get over it and keep it moving.

  12. Anonymous September 16, 2008

To be honest. this was way too overdone. Kat has an amazing voice and this DID NOT show if off at all. i bet it was nerves or bad judgment to think she would hit all the right notes in front of all those ppl.
i love Kat but this was shameful.

  13. Nick September 16, 2008

she sounded jst fine 2 me, i dnt see the big deal here-I bet Rihanna r Miley Circus cnt do it..

  14. Anonymous September 16, 2008

  15. Anonymous September 16, 2008

WTH is wrong with all you haters?! she rocks and has good vocals…it’s not her fault if she can sing well..
people are just jealous that she is not famous but has a powerful voice like no other..

  16. Anonymous September 16, 2008

i seriously cant see why the audience booed.

  17. Anonymous September 16, 2008

She did her own version…too powerful and risky but Who can blame her? She’s young? The matter is that she’s dominican and that people in the audience are little bit racist!

  18. South September 16, 2008

    why were they booing?
i’ve heard it sung a whole lot worse.

  19. Anonymous September 16, 2008

Yall kill me, Kat Deluna ids a great singer, she has a beautiful voice and she sounded just great, there was absolutely nothing wrong with her performance, I would like to to see yall try to sing the national anthem. Im a singer and I know how hard of a song that is to sing, and honestly I think they booed her because she is latina, those white Texas red necks are racist and they dont know a dam thing about talent.

  21. Anonymous September 16, 2008

    SHE WAS GREAT!
THIS GIRL CAN REALLY SING LIVE.
    I LIKE HER NOW.
PEOPLE WHO BOOED HER ARE LOSERS.

  22. Anonymous September 16, 2008

Must say it was wayyyy better than Mariah Carey. That’s the truth!

  23. Anonymous September 16, 2008

Sure, she overdid it particualrly in the middle and the end with the “brave” part, but I honestly don’t think it was that bad. She tried to put her own little twist to it and it backfired. People are used to hearing the traditional way, so she should have left it alone. At least she can sing though and wasn’t out of tune. I’ve seen worse. The most embarassing I can remember is when Musiq actually forgot the words to Star Spangled Banner. But the ULTIMATE worst was Carl Lewis’ singing. Look that one up on YouTube if you haven’t seen it already. It’s hilarious.

  24. Anonymous September 16, 2008

Ahhh, bless! It wasn’t that bad until she decided to overcook it at the end. I think there was something suspect about the booing because they seemed to be backing her at points, but as soon as she finished they all booed which is unusual for anyone. Must be disheartening especially since she’s been trying so hard to make a mark in the industry. That must be every artists nightmare especially in the state of word finances maybe she’ll lose her deal as she’s made no money for her record company.

IMO I think she was nervous to sing in front of millions of people but other than that she can sing and I hope she continues. God bless her and her family.

  26. 2WhomItMayConcern September 17, 2008

maybe im one of those people that dont get true talent, but can someone enlighten me on what was so bad about that performance?

  27. Anonymous September 17, 2008

I like her voice. She over sang the song. I thought she was trying to sing like Christina Aguilera.

  28. Anonymous September 17, 2008

I like her voice. She over sung the song. I thought she was trying to sing like Christina Aguilera.

  29. Anonymous September 17, 2008

I like her voice. She just over sings the song. I think she is trying to sing like Christina Aguilera. I am sorry I used the wrong tense.

  30. Anonymous September 17, 2008

SHE SANG IT WELL, THAT CROWD IS BUGGING OUT! C

  31. Anonymous September 17, 2008

I thought that they were booing because the Philadelphia Ealges were running up on the field, but she did kind of over do it there at the end. She’s not the first person to do that though.

  32. Miranda Priestly @ Runaway Mag. September 17, 2008

I haven’t watched this yet, but knowing that it was in Texas, I am safely assuming that it was either a racially inspired booing or that they were in fact booing the other team that was coming out onto the field. Unmmmm.. I feel bad though, that must have felt horrible. It’s true though, Kat has an amazing voice that has been underrated in the industry. I hope that the publicity from this catastrophe helps launch her forward more than backwards. Remember, any publicity is good publicity.

  33. Anonymous September 17, 2008

I don’t think that it was bad at all… Just a little oversung, yeah… But it wasn’t bad…

And definitely it wasn’t better that Mariah… ha-ha… Every time I hear Mariah’s rendition I get chills down my spine… :)))

  34. Anonymous September 17, 2008

    @4:54 – it was me… 🙂

i stopped watching after about 10 seconds because i couldnt stand to see the child mess up lol…yeah she started wayy too dramatic….lets hope this doesnt ruin the smidget of career she has left.

  36. Demetra Farley September 17, 2008

I was at the game and she didn’t get booed. When she hit the high note everybody went “Ooh!” cuz’ it didn’t sound that great, but for the most part nobody really minded her that much. She didn’t get booed.

  37. Anonymous September 17, 2008

    SUCKED!!!!!!!!!! HANG IT UP!!! HORRIBLE

  38. Anonymous September 17, 2008

    yes, i do like penis

  39. Anonymous September 17, 2008

you know it always sounds different on video than when youre really there. I think she sounded terrible but not bad enough to get booed. and to say she got booed cus tha crowd is racist is total BS.

  40. Anonymous September 17, 2008

i didnt think it was that bad. im thinking roseann barr bad.

  41. Anonymous September 17, 2008

it wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t the worst and certainly not worth being booed. oh well, many singers have been booed before her even Destiny’s Child has been booed.

  42. Anonymous September 17, 2008

lol, my ears, talk about trying to hard

  43. Blake Daniel September 17, 2008

i was there, way overdone, and those hand gestures, I mean come on!!!and those wrong notes in the middle …uugh

  44. Anonymous September 17, 2008

    I LOVE KAT!!!!

awww.. she looked so sweet and innocent at the beginning.. I felt bad 🙁

She has a beautiful and s*** voice! And the performance was not bad, except for the parts where she went overboard with the diva-ish parts.

I have a feeling they weren’t booing her though because people were cheering DURING her performance?
