New Song: Kanye West – ‘Love Lockdown’

Published: Thursday 11th Sep 2008 by Sam
Kanye West - 'Love Lockdown' Following Kanye’s debut of new single ‘Love Lockdown’ at the VMA’s last Sunday, the studio version of the cut has surfaced. With the Chi-Town rapper not actually rapping lol, this one really requires one to open their mind to ‘get it’. I’m really liking this one all the same though. Kudos to Kanye for stepping out of the box.
‘Love Lockdown’ is the first single to be lifted from Kanye’s forthcoming LP ‘808’s and Heartbreak’, due December 16th (get them Xmas sales, Kanye!).

Hit or Miss?

I like Kanye. I like that he isn't typical. And, I do like the beat. However, currently I am not feeling this. Is this the finished single? Maybe it is a grower track. I keep thinking I'll like it later, but all I wanna do is go back in time and destroy Zapp & Roger to stop them from ruining the future, kinda like the Terminator.

I am not especially enthused by his foray into singing a full song. I mean, we like our artists to try new things, but would you be listening to Jay-Z's country album? Doubtful. "Can't Tell Me Nothing" didn't bug me nearly as much as this.

I need to know: Is this like the Emperor's New Clothes? Is everybody telling Kanye his song is great when he's actually naked, just so they feel like they are up on the new-new s***?

Dang y’all need to open up your minds for a hot minute. I don’t think Ye is actin like he can sang, cus truth is niggah cant! (lol I still got mad love from him doe)Its one of those songs you need to focus on the lyrics and not the vocals. There are many artists who couldn’t sing to save their life; I won’t mention no names. Yet they’re hella popular, so why can’t he do it?

Anyway, I love this song and I welcome this new change for Kanye. The beat is sick mayne and I’m feelin the lyrics. But I sho-nuff hope his whole album ain’t gon be like this; cus I’ll miss the rappin.

This is clearly some kind of demo version, everything about the vma performance sounded more produced and polished than this. Probably something Kanye made in garageband in less than half an hour, on his private jet, somewhat drunk . Interesting take on fan interaction though, exposing a work in progress like this. Feels like we’re back in the 80’s, Kanye is Prince, and you never know what upcioming moves to expect from him… truly exciting.

I really can’t stand Kanye West but once in a while he drops something like Gold Digga, Flashing Lights, and Stronger that makes me respect him for a second. This is one of those songs; I’m really feeling it.
