Pop superstar Britney Spears has more cause for celebration this week, as her ‘comeback’ LP ‘Circus’ has shot straight to the top of the US album charts. The set, Spears’ 5th studio album, sold more than 500,000 copies guaranteeing a #1 opening on the Billboard 200 chart as well as a Gold certification straight out of the gate. {Source}
While congratulations are no doubt in order for Britney, I’m still hoping she finds her ‘It’ factor ASAP as those live performances left a salty taste in many a mouth. It’s a thing by which, yes she’s having this major comeback, but how deserving is she if she’s turning in such sub-par showings where it matters? Hmm…

I love Britney and her comeback. Considering the fact that she got married twice, and had two kids, and a divorce and a stint in rehab, in a short period of time, she is what I would call a true test of character because she bounced back. Not many people can do that. Kudos to her and getting it back together. She is a true survivor and winner.

I don’t know why anyone is questioning Britney and Beyonce as being icons. They are extremely young to be considered icons. It takes a lot of accolades to become an icon and years in the industry (usually 20+) so they are simply top selling people that are accumulating accolades. 10 years from now no one would question whether or not either is an icon if they are still performing and selling music. Britney has been around in the MTV arena since 2000 and Beyonce since 1998.
The person who said Billboard obviously hates Britney over Beyonce, is right.
They changed their guidelines last year the week of ‘Blackout’ which sold near 3K. And the allowed The Eagles to chart with their Wal-Mart Only release that sold like 7K.
Yes I understand that they sold more. But isn’t it ironic when people kept speculating that Britney’s “Gimme More,” and ‘Blackout,’ were supposed to be her comeback, and when she didn’t do the best at the VMAs in September, the following month in October, they change the rules of what albums can chart.
Personally I think that Billboard thought she wasn’t in the right place of mind to deserve a 5th consecutive number 1 album. That being said, she still managed to have ALL 6 of her albums debut in the Top 2 of the Billboard 200, an amazing accomplishment if you ask me. Hard enough to get two number 1 albums!

In other news “Circus” as the single (think album as well) has been number 1 on the iTunes Top Songs, this is really gonna help Britney hopefully get her 3rd number 1 single! [I was really surprised when “Gimme More” didn’t reach number 1, but then again that was during the time when Billboard was trying to screw her over.]

I love Britney! Congratulations to her! She definintely deserves it. Circus is a really good album, but I wouldn’t say it’s better than Blackout, it’s just as good. And I agree with you Sam, she does need to work more on her live performances. Britney is not as good as she used to be. I’ve been a big fan from the beginning, but she needs to get things together. Musically she’s always been on-point. I’m glad her promotional team is doing a better job this time around.
