Amelle, Heidi and Jade, also known – rightly or wrongly – as the Sugababes, unveiled the video for their new single ‘About a Girl’. The group, who have been at centre of much controversy as of late – almost entirely due to the ousting of original member Keisha Buchanan last month – hope to set the chart’s alight with this their new single. With a big budget (in UK terms) and a more sexed up image, the big question is: “does the video redeem them?”
In short, unfortunately, the answer is a no. Getting the good out of the way first; I’m definitely feeling the cinematic look of the clip, while the choreography was a great step forward for a group, who have really not been renown for that. However, I can’t help but feel this was a poor, rushed, badly edited clip. Clearly the stunt doubles were supposed to be reflective of the pre-Jade line-up, and though the ladies have since said the stunt company went ahead and shot their scenes while the drama was going on behind the scenes, there surely could have been more workable ways of using the footage. It really seems as if the label paid a hefty sum to the stunt company and come hell or high water were going to get their money’s worth – regardless of whether the vid seemed random as hell. I mean for someone not in the know of what’s happened, they’d likely sit there wondering why in one shot we are seeing muscle-y chicks (ala WWF/E’s Chyna) and in the next, a random dance routine by the group who look nothing like them. For all the £££$$$ thrown at this, the aforementioned makes it come off cheap and tacky.
While I never wish any one bad, I can’t help but feel a little pessemistic about the group’s future. They needed to knock the ball out of the park with this video, which IMO had what’s left of their reputation on the line, and I don’t feel they did.

Well.. erm, i think this is the end for this covers band, so far from the The original Sugababes who were about music, this looks tacky, makes them look cheap and you just ain’t looking at The Sugababes, they may aswell be called The Honeyz, it’s over girls, you should have split up when you felt brave enough to kick out the original member of the band who paved the way for the rest of you to actually have a career! The song is s***, Keisha got a luccky escape, when you compare this to CLASSICS such as Overload, Last Year, Soul Sound, Push The Button, Too Lost In You, Round Round, Stronger, and the beautiful Shape, this track, there tacky image and lack luster personalitys are nothing on on Keisha and Mutya they get 1 out of 10 from me!

Stunt doubles are supposed to pass as the real deal, not different people. All they had to do was not show their faces, and straighten the Jade lookalike’s hair. I don’t see any Tom Cruise/Will Smith stunts here, so why couldn’t they have done it themselves?
The dance routine was nothing to write home about. If you can’t dance, don’t. Crouching down, changing positions, crouching down, changing positions and then bending over to touch each other isn’t dancing.

I think Sugababes have never looked or performed better in any of their videos before this..so regardless of how crap the concept was…them as a product are better and would have performed better if the drama with Keisha hadn’t been so public…funny thing is everyone said Destiny’s Child were over when the Say My Name video came out without La Toya and La Tavia but as a product were better. Keisha was a weak link. She couldn’t dance and thats what this album needed…this video although the concept is a lil confusing now with the ‘doubles’ fiasco is a better video wholly than Get S***…main thing is Sugababes with Jade seems better than Sugababes with Keisha. Wait for live performances before passing judgement.

I find it funny that they all are lip syncing to Jade’s vocals on the chorus… The video is not as bad as ya’ll are making it to be tho of course it could have been edited better but when it comes down too it its something fresh and different from the girls. I think Jade possibly could have saved this group from disaster. Time will tell…
I think this is a much better look for the sugababes. Although until now I though kicking out Keisha was a BIG mistake, I think this explains their reasoning if you look back and think about it for a second. They look so much more proffesional and credible, I think Keisha was maybe holding them back from their full potential, the three of them fit much better together, giving an impression of a group, rather than 3 separate people. Those 3 seem to be on the same page, something which you can tell from just a video, the whole feel and look is so different from any other ‘babes vids and I love it.

Actually, i think Jade makes the group. Well, the new one! She nearly appears as the leader, she puts so much energy compared to the others that the latters will get overshadowed. jade is made for the solo thing! just a thought…

Hi all, i liked the sugababes from day one when the were kids and had an edge, the original line up was by far the best, although heidi, has brought a lot to the table. when mutya left they lost the edge and originality they had and have turned into a girl band.Lthough the music they are knocking out is still good, they dont stand out like they used too.Hope it all works out for jade and the girls, but i think the name should change now.
